A series about stuff that creeped me out that can't be covered by Creepy Bad Endings or Creepy Time Limits.
It can be unnerving when bosses have multiple forms at the best of times, but this... this is on a whole new level...

I just noticed that when the robots face is uncovered Beau will point at it and say target but when it uses Heather to cover its the weak spot Beau is silent. Maybe Beau is telling you not to hit Heather because she isn't the target.

It's amazing which bosses people find scary when they're young. For me, the award goes to Nightmare in Kirby's Adventure. He comes out of nowhere, he's the hardest thing in the game, his music sounds just as threatening as the Gatekeeper in this video, he teleport spams just because he can, and his fanged grin says he's like nothing more than to roast a pink marshmallow and EAT IT.
Also, when you manage to damage him, his fangs briefly get even bigger as he howls in pain, dominating his face and making him look more like a shark. A screaming, teleporting, vampire shark. He is well named.
I think he's the second easiest boss in the game. His first phase is tougher due to the time limit.

Zero takes the cake for the Kirby series, in my opinion. His eye *tears itself out of his body* in a somewhat bloody fashion. *K I D S G A M E, E V E R Y O N E*
Ikr Kirby's pretty dark in some areas but also pretty epic in some other places

Took me a while to realize that Heather is still a head pun. Dunno if it was obvious to everyone else or not.

This guy was the bane of my childhood. I used to rent Headdy most weekends from Blockbuster but could never get past him. It wasn't until years later, after I'd bought the game second hand, that I finally pulled it off. Then I learned about him aiming for your head and was a little bit miffed at how "simple" it was.
What about twin freaks???
Came after this boss and even then you just need to do it fast. Dark Demon took me longer because I didn't know the crystal ball tells what attack is coming.

It’s metal as hell, but it’s definitely the Genesis soundfont being put to best use, don’t know if it’s better than big arm, or doomsday zone though.
I literally got this game off my shelf yesterday and loved every second of it as much as i did as a kid, one of the under rated gems of the 16 bit era

Reminds me of a moment in touhou 12.3 SWR, where Marisa's theme: casket of star, has a completely different tone when you fight her as tenshi in her story
The chapter you fight her in is called: the limit of human, instead of her theme being a awesome one.. it strikes a new feeling of tensity and determination that goes along with Marisa's character
A human magician vs a Celestial.. the theme sure fits with her downfall
One nice subtle touch I noticed is that the background is a series of paintings that have been bolted on.
Gatekeeper's theme is just fucking awesome.

The angel thing didn't say "target!Target!", because the target wasn't the female Headdy, but the Robot/Geisha's face.
I swear that geisha thing is a ghost in the shell reference it has to be.
Headdy is like Rayman... but only his head is floating. Hmm...
Furry-eon Uh, Rayman never had a neck. But Headdy does have connected hands.
Ironically in both games involve outsmarting boss' aim. Mr. Skops is tracking down Rayman's fist, while Gatekeeper is aiming at Headdy's head.

The girl Headdy as some dialuoge were she says she needed to do that to make you continue and the bot was actually was bad so the bot fights you.

I think the japanese version could had been a partially reference to youkai.
Either "Yotsuba Kaidan Oiwa" or "Kuchisake Onna" since both women have been disfigured like the Geisha from the game.
I don't know what they said, but I guess the Geisha asked if she was petty and the female Headdy insulted her which triggered the Geisha, but only attacked Headdy for some reason(but still used her as a shield in the second phase).
So...
I'm assuming that she was based on Kuchisake Onna.
There's something visibly odd about her chin/neck part and eyes in the second phase.
Nah, she's saying that Headdy is not at Dark Demon's Castle, and try's to convince him to leave. But Heather knows that Headdy is at Dark Demon's castle, then the gatekeeper gets made.

A fun yet hard game to play. I do agree with that geisha boss though.

Hell yeah, that boss used to scare the shit out of me. I played the Japanese version when I was 12 I believe.
10 years later I played the US/EUR version but didn't liked the fact that they changed it to a silly looking robot.
For the full experience I suggest getting the translated Japanese ROM of the game.

I think the illusion of the level is the creepy moment rather than the boss. The boss is just when the illusion falls apart.

Dunno, but the woman was changed to a robot in the US version because there was a law where you can't put violence against women. Same thing for the doll boss

Heather(Miss Fingy) takes 4 keys from Headdy only to be held captive by a robot geisha(USA version has a generic robot.)with an attitide after placing 4 keys in her back. She goes NUTS and tries to obliterate Headdy...Good thing Head case has glass head so Headdy can pound her into SCRAP and bomb head to demolish her(it has to be PERFECTLY timed to work...).

Edit: also I put Izayoi (her second form) in google translate and it gave me just "16th night" and putting yayoi gave me the closest being "Spring"(?)

You should look at the Chinese version, it has dialogue for ever boss and it explains the story way better
