Well said. I have three guitars on order with Cathy. Two are custom Kamikaze style guitars but with quilted maple veneer tops and different colors and no branding. I tried to pick finishes and body styles I saw her factory produced and any suggestions she made made sense to the build. Her feedback to those who ordered custom guitars is way more than the main brands do for their custom shops and take over two years.

I’ve worked for many many well known guitar players. Including one that you mentioned. You are dead on, many play or played a “copy” at the end of the day it is just a piece of wood with a logo. If it feels right if it plays right… why not ? Again, it’s all psychological.

Well… yes and no I guess… I agree the body is just wood and if well built, it does not make a difference what name is on the guitar… However the hardware is a different thing.. So buying a Chibson one cannot expect that you recieve a great guitar with great hardware for a low price.. But I’m convinced that buying the “wood” and then upgrading with good hardware you will most likely get a decent guitar… If it says Gibson, that’s nice but should not be sold as… Now, people buying a Chibson, know that they are not buying a legit Gibson so …. I bought a Chyngwie and also waiting for my Les Paul Chibson… Can’t wait to get it and upgrade and play live…
@@roy2201 I upgrade everything to my standards. What I believe or know makes a better guitar. 95% of hardware from china is junk. using plug-ins and such can probably make it sound a little bit better, but plugging straight into an amp it’s going to sound horribly. A good chunk of wood made into a guitar is a good starting point.

I cant say this was a great sit down like i always say when we talk shop on the best budget guitar channel on UA-cam FSB! i will say though we definitely had a great walk through the park today that informed us on some of the facts that a lot of guys just cant get through there heads about buying and owning Chibsons we as the buyers have the right to do so we can purchase whatever the hell we want when it comes to guitars so definitely buy the living hell out of them fake or not be that next EVH or SRV hell you can even be like Slash and James Hatfield and buy and play a fake Gibson on stage and become famous and be proud of that like they did with one! you never know Gibson USA might want to copy your copy and you can make them richer how cool is that! If it appeals to you and fits you buy the fake buy the OEM Chibson buy them from Cathy Zhong if you do be proud that you did because they Rock! dont worry about what anybody else says no matter how much they bitch and cry about it they can all go pound sand and get a life! 😂 Ok now PLAY BALL!

We can break that down even further,in 1987 noone was really buy ng Gibson's,we were getting Ibanez,Hamer,Steinberger,Ernie Ball MM,and Fender.I remember seeing beautiful flame top Les Pauls for 40percent off,then Kris Derrig made the first counterfeit.
That amazing guitar IMO saved Gibson as a whole,by having Slash record AFD and Illusion 1 and 2,and bring on the road saved Gibson back then..and it was a counterfeit
They did not learn, after a copy saved their lives, they continue with that arrogance, with high prices and their quality to the ground.

I have 2 Epiphones (SG 61 and Les Paul Standard). They both are buzzing if I want a lower string height. Even after trust rod adjustment and so on. Both are around 400-500€.
I have 2 Harley Benton from Thoman. One was 150 and one 300 (with EMGs), both B-Stock. Perfect low string height, perfectly adjusted, no buzzing, sounding f good.
No chance I am buying a Gibson. I‘d rather buy 10 different guitars for the same money with Thomann or from China.

What Chinese builder makes the best SG custom ? I feel like the lp styles that I see look great. But all of the SG style that I see just never look right. Is there a builder that get the body as close as they can. ??? Please let me know which ones to look for ?

well said and i agree with you , ijust bought my first chibby, and im waiting for it to arrive here in the uk...after many years of watching all the videos on them, i decided to just buy one for a laugh....and mod it up obviously just like everyone else...iron gear pickups for definate though.
i was a bit miffed at first as to why they go to the trouble of putting the name on the headstock....but get the volume and tone pots, pickup rings wrong...and other little things that scream "im not real"
at first i bought one because i didnt want to shill out 5k for a actual gibson that i do drool over....as much as i play and love guitars...a bit of wood with strings on it aint worth 5k.
i ordered a 58 reissue lemon burst VOS , i wont say who i got it from...but i wont be using them again.(just to say it is not cathy)
originally tried cancelling my order , sent tons of emails and messages to the various email,discord,facebook seller...all ignored...then out the blue 4 days later i get a message saying shipped through facebook...lol
now i get we aint buying from andertons or thomman, or guitar centre...long and mcqaude .....but the lack of communication was disgusting imho
they were quick to send links and sales, and get my money...but then its just radio silence.
i finally got tracking , and my guitar is now in my country....i guess i will just see what its like now, its not like im gonna be able to send it back as the shipping from uk to china would be extortionate.

Mike, my knowledge and understanding of these laws is very limited and most of what I learn I learned from your channel. I also find it odd that people would assume you were in business with Cathy Zhong. I think you’ve made the relationship quite clear in your videos.

As a Fireflyer, I wish FF had someone like Cathy at the helm. Instead, we get what we get with not much recourse. Now, I personage only got exceptional guitars (all 11) very playable right out the box, especially now w the SS frets and Alnico pups. The only reason I haven't bought a Cathy's Guitar is the branding. She puts her Brand name, I'll buy one or two or three...

4 months ago I could not have really spotted the difference, I had to educate myself and this channel is what helped me understand what I was looking at. I have many REAL gibsons and epiphones and love them and chibson's have afforded me the opportunity to work on these guitars and jump into the luthier world and I am loving working on my chibson collection. I have chose to sell a few of them with Full disclosure of course and make sure people realize these are not authentic "G" brand guitars. I am not trying to defraud anyone and I do charge a little bit of a premium because I do at least spend a couple hours working on each one mainly leveling frets and setting the action and intonation. Anyone is able to buy their own and deal with customs and the risk involved there and having the work done to make them a good playing instrument.

BTW: I am a trademark attorney in Europe and I work a lot with US law firms and the USPTO, and I will order something from Cathy.
BUT: I will not have anything on the headstock. Gibson has trademark protection in the US and it is illegal to import fake Gibsons. A cease and desist letter can sometimes be a problem. I would not laugh at that. They can and will take your guitar if found at customs and they can file a law suit against you. They probably will not if it happens once, but if you order many Chibsons it can. My advice: Order one without Gibson/Les Paul on the headstock, find a Luthier in your city and let him do it. It will cost you maybe a little bit more, but without the Gibson/Les Paul logo, Gibson cannot do as much (the have design protection, but it really hard to prove, since singlecut guitars are everywhere with similar headstocks!).
If you truly are a trademark attorney than you are fully aware that is is 100% Legal for Any private citizen in the United States to purchase any Counterfeit for personal use. Private purchase and use is outside of the scope of commerce. It is protected under the 1st amendment of the United States Constitution. 🇺🇸 a cease and desist letter holds no water other than a threat to sue in hopes that the recipient of the letter stops. Anyone can sue anyone for anything. Winning in court is a different matter. As a matter of fact I You should brush up on the Lanham Act under the Dept of Justice. I don't know your laws In Europe. However, here I am quite familiar with ours. Perhaps visit the Dept of Justice website in the matter. Private citizens here in The USA are not bound by uniform commercial code unless we enter into contract in some manner. If someone sent me a letter I would publicly denounce and challenge back with my own letter of demand to stop all communication theroforth. The only authority I follow is a judge ruling after litigation. A constitutional violation is not something the Dept of Justice takes lightly.

I do not agree with you. To my knowledge, you can import fake goods only when you import them directly (having them on you at you flight from China to the US and declaring them at customs). Everything else is imho illegal in the US as IP laws in the US are in accordance with the 1st amendment. However, as you stated, I do this work in Europe. For Europe, I can tell you, that it is 100% illegal. In the US, I am only 99% sure. But - as long as you buy them and nothing happens to you - good for you! Keep on, because I like the reviews 😂💪

I figured out the scam years ago when I started vaping in 2012 or 2013 or something like that. Everyone used copys of certain pieces of vape gear, and it was fine. Then the high end guys all went on a smear campaign and its now the exact same as the chibson deal. I buy and use what I like. I have some "real" vape gear and some "fake" vape gear. but the thing is some of the "fakes" are made in the same factory as the "real" ones, not all but some. Who cares, use what you like, I just dont care one way or the other. although I think your an idiot if you buy an epiphone but throw off on a chibson. All this not counting the generic pills, toilet paper, food, tools, you name it, its all copied.
I tried Kiesel. They made me a guitar LP style with the their "Custon trem bar. -10xs better than anything Gibson ever made. It cost 2,300. I took it int a Guitar center trying to get some Bare Knuclel pickups put in. They hated me, GC wanted me out of their store when I showed their 6,000 Les Pauls. In the event you choose, Speak with one of the kiesel peps and you will probably get a Nirvana guitar-Just like your t shirt. Best of luck.

To me there is no other guitar. Les Paul and the other people that designed it did it perfect from the look, the size, the finish, everything. But everything else on planet earth is copied everything from a Rolex, to a Lamborghini. Why in hell do people get so ruffled when a company or whoever produces a awesome LP. Can't be but one reason. FEAR. They are scared it could be as good or even better at 200 or 300 U.S. dollars. Compared to the 2,000 - 3,000. They spent.
