Today Jared begins work on the 1978 Ferrari 308GTB that Tavarish bought for CarTrek Season 4. Originally built inspired by Cannon Ball Run, it has a high strung engine, and had a ton of interior electronics its new owner, David the@CarWizard has been painstakingly removing and restoring back to its original glory.
During David's work, he and his team had installed a new fuel injection system onto the Ferraris engine, but sadly the computer was barely operating better than the original carburetors. Enter Holley Performance and Holley EFI, with their universal EFI systems. Jared is removing all of the old new fuel injection, and converting it to run on Holley!

Very excited about this build. Thanks to Holley for setting us up with the fuel injection system. Thanks to Jared for all the hard work. It has turned out beautifully.
Yayyyy!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
It sounds so good!
@@TheQuestionableGarage I can imagine. Cant wait to see the next video on it!!
@@CarWizard Now Jennie can have her car back as you have the Viper!
I was really hoping he was gonna ls swap it 🤦♂️🤣
@@TheQuestionableGaragewell we wouldn’t know would we! Lol😂
Jared is a True Mechanic. Not a part changer, which unfortunately many "mechanics" actually are. He left us hanging though! Lol!
I believe Jared, that idea of putting Holley EFI into this particullar car was something you thought of every time you had to load it onto a trailer during CarTrek. Great job!
Possibly!

Wow amazing job Jared! 😲🤘🏽🔥
I was excited to hear that thing light off....
Prepare to receive a lot of calls from the Ferrari GTB enthusiasts for this conversion. Superbly done!!!
In this case it was less about who could pull it off, and more about finding someone crazy enough to try...
and knowledgeable enough to get it working.

Well if anyone ever questioned Jared’s talents, this amazing video will shut them up , nice work Jared , if the car wizard and Holly trust you ….. NUFF said!!
I’m loving this channel 😁
Wow, thanks!
Nobody ever questioned his talents
@@amammes His decisions though? definitely lol
The complexity of this and knowledge you bring to it are so impressive. Great video, skinny!
I appreciate that!
I've been waiting for this build ever since I've heard the wizard saying he's send it out to be tuned and saw it in Jarred's garage. This is an awesome build by two great mechanics. As a child of the 80's this car is iconic, i even had the you replicas of it. I still have them, my boys are playing with them now.
Setting the air gap with thread turns is a genius level I'm not comfortable with.
It's just math. The same stuff that makes a micrometer work.
Right. I would've stuck a pencil in the hole, and used my thumbnail to measure the depth 😂
It works though
He could have set up a dial indicator and zero'd it with the sensor touching the magnet. Then just back out to 0.060". His method is easier.
That's just who he is isn't it?
Been waiting a while for this. And now that Mrs. Wizard is retired, I'm sure she'll be happy to have her Ferrari back 😀
When did that came out that she retired?
@@nicolasboivin9746 A couple videos back on the Wizards channel.
She only retired from teaching. Now working full time at Omega.
@@bdw66 So she will become an even bigger UA-cam star than she is now :)
I’ve been watching this car travel through the UA-cam universe since car trek and seeing you finally getting to work on it made my day. It needs to run!
I can see why Holley agreed to come on board for this project; obviously for Jared and the 308, it's a chance to do something unique and ground-breaking, show off the channel with official support from a big name company, but for Holley it's a chance to do some prototyping and product development into a potential new market and see new way to apply their products, which is really cool to see all round.
Installing EFI on engines other than what's listed on the companies web site is a easier than most people think.
...(I've been tuning Holley EFI on Motor Cycles for almost 12 years)...
@@KCadbyRacing I suspect it’s one of those things that’s easy when you know how. I could probably install the mechanical parts, but creating the tune for the ecu would be a very steep learning curve.
I won't/can't disagree @@deaks25 but don't forget there's a lot of free support (great videos on YTube)...
I'm lucky that I don't normally get headaches (been years since I've had one) but I'm not kidding when I say, I got at least 5-6 headaches when I first started learning the software. And then after that, it took several months to get my first tune "completed" (A/F on Target through all four seasons, without Closed Loop correcting more than 10% [-5,+5%]). And now, almost twelve years later, I'm still learning, but that's mainly because Holley (and the others) keep adding features👍
I just realized you've lost about 50 pounds from your time on Tavarish's channel, nice work man congrats on the weight loss. I'd look forward to seeing updates on that too on your channel. Keep up the good work!
This is now the coolest 308 GTB out there. Good job getting everything working properly, was hoping for a first start though 🙃
Gotta make sure you come back for part 2! The dyno tune. If you follow on Instagram there may be a little teaser there

Man, I haven't watched this channel in about a year. Production values have certainly gone up!
Thank you for coming back, I’ve invested in new equipment and keep trying to get better! Helps Editor Duane when I give him good stuff to work with
Great seeing the Ferrari on here. No disrespect at all to the Wizard but I much prefer seeing the work happen rather than just hearing about it.
This video was great! Beyond explaining modern fuel injection, I really appreciated your walk through of the Holley system. I always see people raving about how great Holley EFI is, but no one ever really explains why or what is involved with Holley.
Can’t wait to see how you solve this problem. Gonna be totally worth it.
Glad it was helpful!
Oh man... that cliffhanger was PAINFUL... but sooo looking forward to the next instalment... where he probably comes back and says he forgot to connect the fuel pump or something silly, just for entertainment value.. followed with a "just kidding"... 😆
I think it's so cool that an old Ferrari engine like this is getting modern tech. You see it happen all the time on JDM cars, but never an old exotic.
I honestly love your content, I’ve been a viewer of your and Tavarishs content since you done the supra build together! Keep up the good work, loving the builds
“Doing the build together”, Jared doing all the work, Tavarish mumbling and bumbling around adding zero value
This is kind of the coolest thing I’ve seen in a while. I love hot rodding expanding to improve other kinds of cars.
It's a nightmare waiting on parts no matter what industry you're in. Love your videos man! Thanks for keeping them coming
Heck Jared, this is a job for The Questionable Garage! Loved it when you pulled out the piece of resistance. Just call your plan: Plan 9 From Outer Space. Good luck on the project. Thanks and we'll see you next time.
Dang the ending though.... Wanted to hear it run and rev
I've never had any super special connection to supergramps, but always loved the concept, as well as what I assume is the replacement
But it's videos and moments like this that keeps me coming back, this channel, more than any other, has never forgotten the concept of enjoying the cars
That exactly the moments on the windy roads, feeling the car is what it's all about (or driving intensely down a few hundred meters of straight if that's your thing)
I feel almost every other channel has forgotten this in some way or another, and it's the reason I keep coming here
I recently lost my license, and will probably be without for quite a while, and I'm just now realizing the consequences of this, not just practically but for the times driving is for everything else than practical reasons, and this is probably where I'm gonna have to go when I miss the driving
And most of all I recognize that connection with a car that is just a material item, but can still have so much more value than just the tasks it can help ease or complete.
Edit: I see that because I posted the comment in between two videos it was posted on the "wrong" video
Honestly doesn't change much, Jared has that same love for the cars that the original channel has, and to me that's why I keep coming back to both
That Rob Dahm ending got me lol.
Go Jared.
If no one has ever done this before you have truly used maths to its best advantage.
I’m not even at the end of the video yet and I’m well impressed.
Unquestionably 👍🏻
Hats off to you for adapting the Holley to the Ferrari. Loved the vlog and the ending 😄👍
I’ve been wondering where this went off the CarWizards couldn’t be in better hands! Keep up the phenomenal work Jared!
I came here (and sub-ed) because of KSR Kevin's video (and my love for Holley EFI).
For those wondering/asking what else Holley EFI might work on? My short answer is:
"ECUs don't know what they are connected to" (until you configure what it is in the software [if possible]).
I've been tuning Holley EFI on Motor Cycles for almost 12 years and one of the things I have always loved about them (support, Engineers) is how they have always been open to helping me with the teething issues I had on different bikes (which helped them improve the software/firmware over the years as well).
The only setting Holley had for our Inline 4-cyl. back then (V2 software) was 1-pulse/fire = we had to grind all but two teeth off of the crank rotors (1-tooth left on for Cyl. 1-4, then 180* later, tooth-2 for Cyl 2-3). It did take quite a while but (even though the bikes all ran Very Well on 1-pulse/fire) I couldn't have been happier when the 12-1 and 24-2 configs were added ❤
Jared you naughty boy, cliffhangers are not cool!
I'm playing, great to see you helping the wizard. I do expect to see his reaction the moment you hand him the HEFTY bill! Just like he does with Tyler!!!!
Great content keep it up!
Now that's a great video Jared. I felt some LSC vibe to it which is exactly the type of content I'm looking for. Please keep it up and you will be reaching the million in no time
Jared you keep us on our toes every time! Questionable Garage & Car Wizard whatta collab 🙌
I'm ten minutes in, and this might be one of the coolest things I've seen in years. Jared + Holley = A Jolley 308GTB
All right! Wizard's Ferrari! 👍🏻
Your the only one who could pull this off and be crazy enough to do it Jared is a master 👍👍👍👍👍
This is Awesome. Reminds me of when we would put turbos on Honda’s back in the early 2000s when tuning was so much more difficult. Like piggy backs and stuff. Good solution. Love to see this kind of stuff
Love the ingenuity and skill in this build. Can't help but feel a bit sad that the original equipment wasn't made to work instead but hey, it's your car! And still rooting for the success of this 😊
Awesome as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
I love how this is coming out. Harnesses look amazing. Just superb quality and craftsmanship here
As someone who used stranded 0 gauge cable for a battery relocation I definitely appreciate the 4 gauge wiring for the fuel pump! 😄
Great work, Jared! This was very informative for an EFI newb like me.
Kinda funny watching Jared leaning over into this engine bay, he makes it look like a little go kart.
We all know Pyra is the real mastermind of the shop and has a silly human do all the work!! 😂😂
Wow, very impressive Jarod, your skill set, and knowledge are very high level. The fact you even "assumed" you could pull this off is very impressive. Thank for leaving us hanging though! Not really though, because I have all confidence it fired up.
I’ve only been around for a year 🤔? Well since you and Derek cut a bunch of little trees and other growth from around the van and got it started. This video has been the best in showing how skilled you are mechanically. Impressive. Oh, I can’t believe you have a Ferrari in the shop 😂🤷♂️
So cool. Just came here from Wizard's channel. In an era where it seems so many don't strive for excellence in their hands-on work, it's a pleasure to see a real craftsman at work!
Excellent video and musical support!!! You two are the top dogs! Thanks! BRAVO!!!
It’s going to be a fantastic car when finished, it’s so great seeing it come back together after how Fredarico had it at the end of CarTrek.
There are a few episodes with a new car in between, but we visit a good friend June 26th for dyno tuning so watch for it super soon!
Will do good Sir looking forward to see how it goes it’s such a good looking classic, maybe not to everyone’s taste but I like the boxey design.
That ending was worthy of Rob Dahm 🤣
I almost wept to see that 308 being worked on again. I'm glad to know that it is in questionable hands. :D
hats off to you sir for your perseverance and patience 😊🫡. greetings from philippines 🇵🇭
Thank you so much 😀
Awwww yeah! This is the video I’ve been waiting for. Go, Jared!
Been waiting a long time to see this video! Way to be a pioneer and figure it out. I'm sure Wizard will be super excited
This channel should be called the "Professor of the Garage" or something like it.
One quick question. 360 degrees / 60 teeth = 6 degrees per teeth, no? So 195 degrees / 6 degrees per teeth = 32.5 teeth, which also makes more sense since 195 degrees is obviously a little over half a rotation. I'm sure you still figured it out one way or another, but just something I caught.
Really awesome conversion and I honestly thought Wizard should have gone with modern EFI in the first place. Can't wait to see it run! Always loved the vids on this car.
Glad someone else spotted that too. I thought to myself, that isn’t right is it?
Perhaps he’ll correct himself in the next video and that error is just to get people commenting.
Great project though and I think I’ll do something similar with my TVR in time.
@@dalamar6228 The good news is even if he did it wrong he should be able to correct it via software, I think? Or he can just drill a new hole in the came gear and move the magnet, hahaha. We'll have to wait and see! TVR on modern EFI sounds amazing.
@@dalamar6228 Ah I found other comments where he already addressed this. He said "I spoke incorrectly, I’ll make sure to correct that first thing in the next video, I set things right mechanically but said the wrong thing. Too many numbers going on in my head!" So I'm sure he did the math right off camera.
@802Garage that’s great news. Looking forward to see how he finishes this build off and does the final tune!
Jared, first of all, Congratulations, and I would never think about a Holley EFI until I saw this video, now I can understand how wrong I was before, Great Job man! all the best, Marcos
FYI with the Holly, I remember david having trouble with that on roadkill, you need to make sure it always stays plugged up and charged or it forgets the tune, as they had to redo it on a car that was sitting before dragweek, and its a ferrari so its going to sit, either that or copy the tune onto a flash drive once its tuned and running
The TEC III is from Electromotive who was a US company from Manassas Virginia. I've tuned one for an AMC 258. If you can understand Holley, you can understand Electromotive. Started out being way before their time, but failed to evolve their product. The VE approach they used was a good one. But their products always had a bit of a "good enough for who its for" quality to them. They tried but missed.
Look at Jarred coming in with the cliff hanger………..I was like “COME ON, FIRE UP. OH MANNNNNN,!!”….
glad to see mechanics supporting each other
Damn Jared, you're the epitome of perseverance and can do attitude. The sxcitement you have for the challenges y o u know you will face is awesome. 6ou and Mat Armstrong should team up and work together as you both have that spirit of postivity.
Jared is like a "Car Genius."
Great job! Seeing The Skid Factory make Haltech ECU's work on all possible engines, Holly will do the same. Hope we will see it running soon!
Awesome project!! Great video, the channel is coming along very nicely!!
Thanks a bunch!
About time be waiting for this video Jared 😄 so gald the 308 didn't end up in the junkyard!
Awesome work Jared. 👍
Love this video! Talk about a cliff hanger ending!!!
The car I’ve been waiting to see on this channel hell ya let’s go🔥
Jered, great project and video. I would really like to see more GOOD PROJECTS from your channel.
This is pretty damn awesome Jared.....🤟
I love the idea of modern EFI systems on old engines.
Jared is right about the Australian tuning scene being up there, motec and haltech have probably helped with that.
I'm a surgeon. I do similar stuff to this, but to humans instead of cars. And I am blown away by the level of knowledge, expertise, and creativity shown by Jared in this video. Jared, if you ever decided to go to medical school, you would be one of the top surgeons in the country.
Jared should insure his hands for $1 million!!
I'm sure that implanting and calibrating a pace maker is just like putting an ECU, EFI, and ignition that weren't intended for that car in anyway. Piece of cake, right?
My patient turns off though, he has to do it while the patient has to stay alive.
@@TheQuestionableGarage 'Today on the Questionable Operating Room: Make questionable choices and install a second heart and a third lung in your grandma. Let's get to it!'
The only kind of surgeon you are sunshine is a tree surgeon. No medical professional would make a sweeping statement like that 😂
Love to see this car come back to life!
Genuinely one of the funnest channels on UA-cam.
Cant wait for the next video on this Ferrari. Jared is awesome!
Nice work, leaving us in suspense, I love it.
Wow Holley came through for you again? That's awesome! I love your theory that it shouldn't matter what engine it's on as long as it knows what kind of signal it's supposed to get. This opens up the door for using a Holley computer on literally any car, even my Miata-swap TR7 trashcan project. Maybe your experiment can inspire more products.
I hope so!
You may be creating a drivetrain vibration with increasing revs with the cam gear now out of balance. Perhaps another bolt of similar weight at 180 deg / opposite.
fun episode Jared! enjoyed that
Just watched the KSR tuning effort. Hope you sort the brake, intake, etc and go all the way with this. 👍
Can’t wait to see the following video.
Hello again, Jared
Thank you for another Great Video 👍
You got this! If I built my 92 acura legend, turbocharged the motor and custom wired it for a Proefi 128 Ecu.. you should have zero issues!!!
I wonder if Mrs. Wizard would be OK with Wizard going Glorious Moustache for the memes when the car is done 🤣
Regarding the height issue, if you watch old episodes of Magnum P.I., you can see that the T-Tops are always off the Ferrari used for the show and Tom Selleck's head is sticking out of the top!
Can’t wait to see the next content video about the system
Perfect job to try a fueltech. They are great with these different applications
OMG ITS FINALLY HERE!!!
