I love how you slowly dissect his game. The fact that you came back from a 7:1 disadvantage in the first game must have messed with his mind. For me it's often tough to rally from your strong comeback. TY!
I saw this match live in Atlanta. Sock got an attitude on a line call and couldn't let go of it even though it was the correct call and then preceded to be sarcastic and whine about it for the rest of the match. Christian was simply more consistent and made less unforced errors and that's how you win in most individual sports. Sock has unbelievable tools especially his forehand and athleticism, but his mental game lets him down sometimes. And we ALL know that's the most important part of sports.
Nice man I play doubles but interesting to hear the decision making post play. The game moves so fast in real time. As a disabled veteran I love this sport and how it’s allowed me to meet people in my community and stay active.
I think other players should follow in your example as my feelings for you as a kind person have skyrocketed since listening to your replay explanations. This is the primary benefit for you and your marketing with various advertisers and congratulations to you. You also do a very good job of explaining your game/thinking/ and shot selections while giving your opinion of the opposing players thoughts. Great Video, Thanks...
Alshon 👏👏👏 Appreciate the breakdown of your game. Outstanding, its great to have you guys breakdown your game and know what you guys are thinking and strategizing Thank you 🤙
Great win Christian!! You have inspired me to take a shot at developing the two hander. Not sure if "father time" & flexibility will cooperate but I hit on the wall regularly so it will be a interesting challenge. Would luv to see a few doubles/mixed doubles breakdowns; my guess is the majority of your subscribers play doubles/mixed & would benefit from your commentary & insights. Your analysis of your Johns Bros NC match was so helpful. Congrats again, and thanks so much for the breakdown.
Loved the match analysis Christian! I switched to your paddle again (had the Warrior when I started) and the tko-cx 12.7 is amazing! I wouldn't mind getting another one as a backup (courtesy of you ;)). Good luck in your future matches! Go for gold.
Christian played like a boss this match 👏👏👏 It's good to see a Pickleball pro be a real winner on and off the court regarding the attitude. On another note, just today, I ordered the Paddletek Bandam TKO-C (Red & Black) and I'm excited to level up my game coming from a JOOLA Ben Johns Hyperion Gen1 👍 Much Aloha & Mahalo to brother Christian Alshon for everything he's done for this amazing sport 🤙
For roughly half a year, I've been using a JOOLA paddle. I had my mind set on getting the Gen 3 Tyson McGuffin Magnus paddle since my singles & doubles playstyle resembles his single-handed gameplay a lot. However, I had worries that JOOLA's paddle technology wasn't what I wanted in a paddle, so after hearing the Gen 3s are definitely de-listed from USAP's approved paddle list, I did extensive research into finding the best paddle for me. Your signature paddle won my heart (and my wallet.. 😂) I play between a 4.0 - 4.5 skill level, so with your signature Paddletek Bantam TKO-C, I'm highly confident that I'll consistently play at 4.5 - 5.0 (and beyond) evolving my gameplay to incorporate the best shots and strategy that you, Tyson McGuffin, Ben Johns, and the other G.O.A.Ts exemplify. Then, one day, I'll debut myself in a pro pickleball tournament and say, "Christian Alshon's paddle and methodical thinking helped get me here."
It's crazy how Jack's forehand is so good it can carry him to #9. Especially with how many free points he gives up. If he cleans up his consistency and backhand he should be top 5. I haven't watched pro play or played pickleball until recently but I can tell he seems to have changed the flow of pro pickleball with his plays. Even when Ben plays him he does unexpected cross shots that seem to shock Ben. But Ben is just wayyy too consistent that it breaks Jack's game eventually. On the PPA replays it always seems like Jack's opponents are always uncomfortable playing him and Jack is just having a hayday. 🤣 For the free paddle, you should require a subscription and have a secret somewhere in the video that requires us to comment something specific and then randomize out of that. Friday Pickleball does the 1-word thing at the end of their videos where you have to comment that word. I'm always on their videos for that haha.
@@kalo8524 haha yeah to be in the top levels of tennis is in a different league compared to pickleball. It's a much more developed sport. I feel like pickleball will still have a much lower skill cap when it's more developed. I haven't played any pro tennis or pickleball but I can say for certain I couldn't return a pro tennis serve. I would likely be able to return some pro pickleball serves. I would lose hard but the game seems to have less max potential. So for a dedicated pro tennis player, especially a giant like Jack Sock, it's probably him just having fun. 😂 He still needs some more dedication if he wants #1 though.
Of course it would be harder to return a pro tennis players serve. In pickleball the rules intentionally limit the serve, leading to many other facets of the game being much more highly emphasized. Not saying pickleball or tennis are more difficult or have higher skill levels, just they are different sports that require some variance in skills at the highest levels while having some carry over skills.
Great stuff Christian! Thanks for giving us an insight of your thought process as you breakdown each match. Will continue following you career. Best of luck
Great instructive video. I had subscribed before and enjoyed learning your thought process and analysis of the game. Please continue like this. I will start working, among several other things, on a 2-handed back hand against a wall. Great idea.
Great win against a tough competitor. I have been a big fan since your early days, so happy to watch your progress. Thanks for sharing the wins and the losses. Thanks for taking us on your journey. Btw, what is your favorite Jimmy John’s Sandwich?
Great game, Christian! Sock is a very tough opponent and this is certainly a big win. Really appreciate your commentary, especially at 23 minutes into the video about the importance of the two-handed backhand. Everyone seems to be hitting it now, even for dinks. The big takeaway for me from this video is recognizing your opponent’s weakness and playing to take advantage of it. I’m wondering why you didn’t try some lob serves on Sock to slow down his return a bit more? Do you think that may have worked? No criticism meant- you played a super game- enjoy watching your technique and passion for the game. All the best!
Shout out to Christians paddle (TKO-CX 12mm) - it's already changed and improved my game (5.0 level). @TweenerKing - where do you put your lead tape on the paddle?
Christian, thanks for the breakdown and thanks for the twoey tips. Q: Do you ever get stretched so far to your left that you pull your right hand off the paddle and try to hit the ball with a left hand only forehand?
Great video! While I know there are already some videos that explain this, could you talk a bit more about the differences between one-handed and two-handed backhands in both singles and doubles? I feel that the one-handed backhand generates more power but less topspin.
Great analysis - helpful for me to learn strategy that would apply even at a more intermediate level. I am confused, though, about the second game where Jack hits the ball out, Christian asks if it was out, and somehow it gets called in? Why is this? What makes a ball be considered out ever, then? Is it because it was hit after the bounce? I thought you can call it out if you hit it after a bounce, but not from hitting it in the air.... ???
@TweenerKing thanks for the video! what software did you use to record this? I'm trying to do a film breakdown just like this and I can't figure out how to record a live video of me talking over a pre-recorded pickleball game

Biggest mistakes I see with pros is playing up it’s just not good positioning volleying the balls is so random and chaotic it’s luck and chance to win. If u play back u get a lot more time to react and hit those crazy top back side spin shots
