John Du Can: The Attack, Andromeda and Atomic Rooster. His style of lead guitar was ahead of its time. Check out his intro on Atomic Roosters "Sleeping For Years" it's insane... Especially for the music of that time. Crank that song way upppp!

It says in the Independent's obituray that John Du Cann "moved to Norwich and manufactured greenhouses and conservatories". It's a very respectable and useful thing to do, to make something. Yet one cannot help but feel a sense of sadness that this musical genius was making conservatories for middle managers - the bathos of the UK over the past three decades. I will always travel through the portals of his music, into the Strange House of truth. John Du Cann, play in the music of the spheres.

Hi Suhayl, John DuCann (John William Cann) formed the band ANDROMEDA after the Attack, and then in 1970, he joined ATOMIC ROOSTER. -he didn't end up manufacturing greenhouses, he unfortunately passed away of a heart attack in 2011. He left a legacy of great music with us that will last forever :)

Pretty groovy song! The guitar, bass, and drum parts have kind of an early '60s surf instrumental sound, blended nicely with a late-'60s psychedelic feel.

I was riding in the sky
And I saw a strange looking land
    I swaggered over there
To a house and a funny looking man
    He invited me inside
Saw such things I'd never seen before
    It was strange
    (In his house)
There was a table upside down
With no legs and a funny coloured pink
    There wasn't any chairs
So I sat on the edge of a sink
I had tea in a clock
And I ate a piece of green rock
    It was strange
    (In his house)
    Was I just imagining
Or was this really happening to me?
Perhaps it's just a funny dream
But to me it seems so real
    Open feeling in my mind
I'm in a trance or I must be
    I went up the stairs
To the cellar which was on the top floor
    I went down the stairs
To the attic which was on the floor before
I landed in the garden how I did was a mystery to me
    It was strange
    (In his house)
I walked down the garden path
Found myself sitting on a bed
It was suspended in mid air
With no springs not even any legs
So I laid my head down
Went to sleep hoping I would disappear
    It was strange
    (In his house)
I'm back riding in the sky
Near my home I hope that I
    Become awake when I arrive
Hoping that this dream has died
    If it don't I know that I
Will have no peace until I die

Am I the only one who thinks this sounds so much like the Who's Amazing Journey from Tommy, only much better. I believe it was recorded before the Who recorded Tommy. Strange House was never released by Decca in the UK. Maybe the Who nicked it for Tommy. What's more, the flip side of this gem, titled Mr Pinodny's Dilemma, has references to a Dumb, Deaf, and Blind Boy.

What I intended to say was: 'Freakbeat' is the really great musical style of the sixties imo even if the term 'Freakbeat' was given only many years later to different kind of tracks that are somewhat a bit off the 'normal' Pop and Beat sound of that time, that could be heard mostly in the radio and made the charts. Nonetheless 'Freakbeat' signifys a rough, hard and freaky style of 60s Beat, Pop, Garage for my ears no matter if this term existed in the 60s or not, find it quite suitable..
