Love them tiger stripe grips on that Smith but that Python is gorgeous , I would pick the colt if I could afford it back in the day , I heard Hitchcock 45 say he never seen a Python used in competition shooting when he would compete , only Smiths
Jerry Miculek did a video woth a python and one of his tuned up smiths. His finger is so damn fast he stumbled on the Colt. The reason folks never used the colts were the cost. You can get an almost equal gun for half the money amd tune them up to make them better. Muscle memory makes everyone learn the smiths better since more people use them. The Colt is not a bad gun at all.
I have three 686 revolvers, and one 2020 Python. My 686’s have all been polished by me, and look great. The only issue with the new Python is ZERO parts availability. 👍👍👍👍

One thing I noticed on my 2020 python compared to a smith I had was that if you looked at the forcing cone on the two even the edges of the forcing cone on the colt was rounded/chamfered where the smiths were at a sharp angle. I’m not sure there’s an advantage to the chamfering except maybe less likely to crack over time but just a little detail I found
I could not choose, I would and do own one stainless steel S&W 686 (- model) and an 80’s blued Colt Python. One day I will obtain a no dash 686. Ricky from IBM

They are absolutely beautiful!!!! I have an original Python but it’s has that beautiful Colt bluing .

I will have to check that out. FYI this is an old python in this video from the 1980s. Maybe I will do one comparing it to the newer pythons also

Honestly I am a Colt guy. I do like them both but if I had to pick one I would go with the python
