  • Why do you not always get the maximum power that the charger ‘advertises’? Well in this video I explain why.

Hi, a question if I may, not related to charging. I'm new to owning an EV, I bought a 2021 iPace HSE in March, traded my Mercedes SL400 Edition, and so far it's been great but I am having trouble finding some of the functions within pivi pro. Park assist, in the few clips on here they access this through a row of touch buttons along the bottom of the top screen, I don't have this row of buttons. The sat nav, the iPace I test drove would show you a map of the UK with a circle showing how far you can go on the charge you have, cannot find that. It might be a bot to specific to the iPace but a video with a real world "how to" on pivi pro would be very useful or if you feel to specific, maybe just a reply with how I can find what I mentioned above? Thanks in advance, Phil

Hi, I’d like to help but I have the older I-PACE pre Pivi Pro so I’m not familiar with it. I know on mine that park assist only appears when you’re driving under 18mph and it appears on the bottom right but I think appears on the right on the Pivi Pro. I’m not a fan of in car sat navs, I always use google maps on Apple car play. I do find the i guide app for the car to be pretty good and would check this out first. Sorry I couldn’t be more help!

@@electricfocus1710 Hi, thanks for the quick reply, appreciated and will try the i guide again. Agree re car sat navs and use Google maps myself but am trying to work out how everything works. Look forward to your next video, Phil

Hi, I'm due to pick up a used iPace tomorrow and it's my first electric car and I'm feeling a bit unsure about several aspects of the charging process so I hope you don't mind me asking you a question. If the maximum charge the car will accept is 100kw but I happen to use a higher powered charger will that damage the car - or does it have some kind of regulator/safety feature which will protect the car? Also, which app do you find most useful for planning journeys around charging requirements (apologies if you cover this question somewhere in one of your very informative videos - I'm just working my way through them)? thanks

No problem at all, this is why I started the channel to help people with the transition to EV. It doesn’t matter that the charger has a higher speed than your car can take it will not damage the battery so you can use any Ultra Rapid charger without worry. Re route planning, try A Better Route Planner. You do need to spend a little bit of time setting it up with your car details and preferences but it’s worth it as it will suggest a route for you with charging stops and times at the charger required etc and is certainly the most sophisticated I’ve found. Other apps to use are Zap Map which is the best for finding chargers (I have a video on this) and is normally up to date with the latest chargers and if you pay the premium subscription you can even see new charges in the last 30 days as well as other features. There’s also Wattsup which I find a quick useful tool to show me all the chargers along a given route. I tend to use a combination of these for long journeys and I recommend doing a bit of planning before long journeys and have in mind some back up charging stops if you come across a problem or a very busy charging stop. Another tip is to download all the apps for the charging companies and enter your details inc credit card details. Watch my ‘5 tips to prepare for your first EV’ which may help. Hope that helps!

@@electricfocus1710 Thank you very much for taking the time to leave such a comprehensive reply. I will check out the apps you have suggested and also look up the video you've mentioned. The idea of changing over to electric feels a bit daunting just now but I'm sure, like many others, in a month or so I will be wondering what I was worried about.

@@TimE-mf4of yes you will ramp up pretty quickly, then you will not want to commute with an Ice Vehicle again. Good Luck on your electric journey. This channel provides a lot of good info and advice on doing the electric journey. Which is why have been following him for a while now ever since I too got my iPace.

I also think that the chargers are not as powerful as advertised. I assume a max of 50 kwh, despite what the charger says. My MG can charge up to 100 kwh.

Apart from the factors mentioned in the video there’s really only likely to be one other reason you’re not getting the full power (if we assume there’s not an issue with the car) and that’s that there isn’t enough power available from the grid connection. Sometimes the CPO is waiting for a power upgrade.
