Why don’t you get the full power when charging your EV?
Переглядів 1,1 тис.Рік тому
Why don’t you get the full power when charging your EV?
Question for you. How does the preconditioning work. Does the car need to be charged to 100% then it will start? Dont have the app didn't see the need for it. I also do not have level two at home but have plenty of superchargers. Noticed that it was only charging at 14kw so my question to you is how can I make the battery heat up while driving to get it to its optimal temp if I'm out and about. Look forward to hearing from you
Hi, Yes, the Jaguar I-PACE needs to be at least 100% charged and plugged into a wall for at least 30 minutes before departure for battery preconditioning to work. There is no function to precondition out on the road like a Tesla unfortunately. When you say you were only getting 12kW was this on a charger over 100kWs? If so never seen that slow unless the car was nearly at 100%?
The socket of a jaguar?
What do you need to know about the socket?
How does it compare with your previous car, the I Pace S?
It’s a different type of car. The I-PACE was sporty, more of a ‘drivers car’ whereas the Volvo is all about comfort and I wanted to prioritise that this time whilst still having the power when I need it. I like having faster charging and the range seems better so far. The I-PACE still looks great but just hasn’t moved on since launch which is a shame. Google operating infotainment is nice to have too and the bigger screen. If I’d wanted sporty again I’d have considered the BMW i4 M50.
@@electricfocus1710 I've had the I Pace HSE for over a year, love how it drives, and the HSE still has as many and quite often more features than many of the new cars on the market. It's a keeper, for a few years yet....................or longer. 😎
Delighted as never thought I could afford one a few years ago next week I pick up my HSE model ex managers car, 18 months old with 7000 on the clock for £33500 and even a free home charger will be installed 🙂, cant wait.
Enjoy!
Hello . Quick question do you prefer the I-pace or the Volvo? The range is better ride better etc . Thank you
Hi, I didn’t consider the I-PACE again as charging speed and range have not been improved and although the Volvo isn’t class leading, it has 200kW charging v 100kW for the I-PACE and range is better. They are two quite different cars the I-PACE is the better driving car and in my view one of the best looking cars out there even today. The XC40 is solid, comfortable, practical and great for long journeys and I do a fair few long journeys so suits my needs. I am a sucker for speed and you still get this with the Volvo Ultra Twin, but the I-PACE is much better in terms of driving dynamics. Having said that if had gone for something less practical and more ‘sporty’ I’d have considered the BMW i4. Hope that helps!
@ thank you very much for your kind replay. I just got the i pace 2020 SE full extra for the amount 28.000 euros I just got because the price was so good for all the extra . I live in Cyprus in the range is perfect .. before I got the car I checked the history of the car and service and the car didn’t have any recall and also I call jaguar Cyprus and they told me the same that the car is good condition . I just got a message for a second high voltage fault but it’s ok to drive with caution . Appear for one second and the disappear and never show again . I call jaguar and they told me if you don’t have the message in your screen now there no fault . But if appear again bring the car it was one week ago but that message didn’t appear again. If you a ay sugestión what can be or maybe is a glich
I had the same issue, it kept coming up and it went in right at the end of the lease. I spoke to JLR to confirm what the issue was and they told me that is was a software issue that they rectified. I would get it in if it comes up again.
Thanks for the review. I was sold after the first test drive. Great comfort and easy driving. I'm expecting to get my EX40 Ultra SM ER next week, cant wait.
EV's are the future. However allow me to extend my sympathies to EV buyers who have chosen the Jaguar I-pace, specifically the 2019 model. After 5 recalls for battery issues there is news today of JLR buying back almost 3000 cars. It could be worse I suppose, you could be one of the unfortunate ones who have had their vehicles go up in flames, in some cases burning their homes as well. I fully support the EV revolution. I am the proud owner of a 2020 Tesla Model Y (long range dual motor). No issues due to vehicle design or overall infrastructure. I am rather surprised that the legacy auto makers can't seem to get it right. A few Asian brands seem to make a reasonable product but American and European (inc. British) makers are definitely struggling. I believe this to be more of a Culture rather than Technology issue. So , Go EVs. Buy a Tesla. Or a Kia or perhaps one of the better Chinese brands. The mission to transform transportation to sustainable energy depends on it.
My next door neighbour bought a 19 reg i-pace much less than a year ago for £29k. He said what a bargain it was. Not so much of a bargain now after depreciating about another £12k since he bought it. Just think about the cost per mile he is paying. The astronomical depreciation doesn't stop, just because you buy it.
How do you get the emergency cable release into place again after using it? Does it fall back by itself?
Yes it goes back.
@@electricfocus1710 Thanks. Then i need mine repaired.
HELLO????? SO WHERE THE F@CKARE YOU STARTING FROM?????? DONE A BIT OF PLANNING MATE. TRY TELLING US WHERE YOU STARTING FOR A START. NOB
I'm picking up a 2020 S with Pivi, tomorrow. I assume the 2021-2024 OTA update is because the earlier Touch Pro did not have 4G. Is that correct? Also, Do you know if there is a way to see if the update has been done by looking at the software version? It is not an approved Jag, so not sure what paperwork it will have. Thanks for the videos, they are very helpful.
Hi, first thanks for watching! From my understanding earlier cars had a separate sim and then they started including a built in sim from 2021 but ultimately they both use 4g. You can see the latest software version on the car and check for updates and it should tell you if it needs updating. You can always ask JLR to confirm what the latest should be if in doubt. Hope that helps.
@@electricfocus1710 Amazing, thanks for the info and the super fast reply.
Nice video. How widespread are charging issues? I see lots of threads about people not being able to charge their car even on three different brands of home chargers. But L3 works because it skips the AC>DC conversion of L2. I really want this to be my first EV as a used car but after totaling my XJ, all my friends are saying, "One rule: anything but a Jaguar" because they watched my struggles with the XJ. If I try an "I'll show them" and end up being unable to charge, repair, or sell the car, I will be given hell for the rest of my life.
Thanks! I never had an issue charging on my OHME charger at home and no issues charging on AC or DC elsewhere. I only had the issue I talked about on my vid to do with the battery fault. JLR do not have the best reputation for reliability but as with all makes you get good and bad. It’s a great car.
Yep I wouldn't believe Jag. Sounds like an insulation fault. Moisture in the AC compressor for example can cause those symptoms. It's a real headache sorting these faults. I'm keeping my 2012 X351 which has been faultless and delivers 50mpg in pure luxury 😎
EV's? Not a great plan.
A bit late for ‘plans’ they are here.
@@electricfocus1710But not for too much longer.
I tried this on a 2021 ipace, it doesn't seem to read the DTC or SOC even though the ipace profile is selected, perhaps only partially works on 2018-2020 models?
Hi, sorry I’m not sure why that is, suggest messaging the supplier for advice.
@@electricfocus1710 Ignore me the Veepeak is now working correctly. I'm going to delete my original comment.
How often will the battery need replacing ?
8 year warranty.
And how many of these are dealerships pre registering to hit quota from the manufacturer?
I don’t know, do you then?
@electricfocus1710 I worked at a dealership, and the manufacturer would set a quota for them to hit. If they were short, they would pre register, and it was always electric vehicles.
@@electricfocus1710lithium is a MAJOR environmental pollution EPA SUPERFUND SITE on wheels.
Yes but how many BEVs pre registered? There have been around 86,000 BEV registrations in the last two months.
@electricfocus1710 because no one us buying then, dealers have a lot of them auto allocated by manufacturers, and have to pre register them or get fined by the manufacturer.
Hi, is there an option to set a maximum charging limit, such as 80%, to extend battery life while still allowing preconditioning to function?
Hi, unless they’ve done an update since, preconditioning the battery only seemed to work when charged to 100%. I would say that I haven’t found it’s made a big difference preconditioning the battery and rarely used it. I would just precondition the cabin.
Up 24%? That’s absolute garbage!
just had it in to jag too to replace some modules ,i suppose us early adopters ,get these problems
gridserve chargers and my ipace hate each other ,not gonna use them ever again, massive ERROR in red on my dash last time I used gridserve, had to get the AA out !!!
Gridserve are not the manufacturer and you’ll see a lot of these around with other CPOs. Personally I’ve used Gridserve chargers a fair bit and can only remember one issue that was solved over the phone. More likely to be the car than the charger.
I did think it might have been the car but the car is fine with every other charger I use ,do u think it could be a handshake problem between the gridserve charger and the car ?
Gridserve are normally ABBs (manufacturer) and no issues I’m aware of. Perhaps try another one when you don’t need a charge and see what happens? I’ve used loads of ABBs and no issues, the issues are more likely with the car from my experience…
thanks for the reply ,but unless I had a gridserve technician with me to try it then I wouldn't want to chance it ,the last time I used one it sent my car into complete failure and I had to get the AA out to get me going again ,the older gridserve chargers seem ok ,its just the newer ones I seem to be having issues with 😮
Exactly the info I needed 👍
All the i paces are recalled.battery risk of fire
Currently have an MG ZS ev..the Jag is aimed to be the next car thats to its bargain price and everything id ever want
My 2020 I Pace has had this occasionally, Jaguar have it now and say the charging unit needs replacing, I waiting for this to fitted as they cant find one. Lets see. Luckily I have extended warranty.
They are a bargain up until they need to be repaired. Extended warranties are every expensive. Like $1600 a year, and unlikely to find one at that rate after 10 years. But ya, you can get an $86k car for $26k. Buy pray it doesn't break outside warranty
Registered not sold !!!
It's so sad that companies make these amazing cars but they can't even come close to Tesla in the tech. The Tesla App does probably 100 more things then this Volvo app does, including let you turn on the seat heaters or roll the windows down (or prop them on a hot day). One thing you didn't mention, can you use the volvo app as your car key so you don't have to carry the stupid key fob?
You need the key I’m afraid.
My friend works at JLR, he says he repairs 4 to 5 I pace cars every week. Battery 'cell' failures. They get sent back to LG under warranty. Failure rate is high.
If there is a Known Issue then I would have expected the PDI on a new car to include checking that the issue wasn't present. Or is that just too simple?
I agree and I’m not convinced any checks were done. The guy that did the handover didn’t have a clue either, he told me I had a cable in the car to do really fast charging when I’m out! I also had to get the number plate refitted as it was put on crooked which I only noticed when he’d left. Basics really.
@@electricfocus1710 perhaps I'm glad that we have moved away from your part of the world. If I actually progress to ordering a model just like yours it will be from another dealer!
It came from Tunbridge Wells I believe.
@@electricfocus1710 Ahh, not where I suspected.! Saw the wooden figures on the roundabout in your First Impressions video & thought I Know That Place! ;-)
Still needs serving here though and not a great experience when I first went in with the issue but better when I went to get it fixed.
Sir how do the batteries within the station charge?
They are on a 40kW low voltage feed so trickle charge when not in use. If fully depleted they take about 6-7 hours to recharge which generally happens overnight when not in use.
@@electricfocus1710 Thank you for being responsive sir.

Jaguar I-PACE battery fault UPDATE! ua-cam.com/video/Jmm1eIQTBAg/v-deo.html
Own a fpace 5years no problems at all 😂
I remember growing up and cars had no fancy gadgets and it only warmed up by the time you arrived at school ... We have a world full of wimps now .
Bad away that fault that shows in the video it is the beginning of the end! That’s what I had showing in the dash before the inverter went! And once the inverter it’s gone you are done! 10K to get a new one!
Had 2019 modeI I am a mini cab driver in London. beautiful car, drives so so nice. But the absolute worst car I have ever had!! Left stranded on the highway many times, air conditioning broke down constantly, door handles did not come out more then once, had to have the all battery pack changed by Jag cos it was faulty and only charging up to 72 percent, had to change the 12W batteries, and now it is still in the garage the inverter is fried the car is not driving or going on can’t even open the damn thing! An absolute nightmare! The worst car I had ever had! Such shame cos it is a beautiful fan to drive car! Advice? STAY AWAY FROM IT!!!!
Thank you. I would definitely put the back seats down for more dog space.
You’re getting confused by fudged statistics. It’s inevitable that registrations of EVs will increase towards the end of 24, due to ZEV mandate target, but hold the fanfare. Take a look at autotrader, set parameters to newest and oldest 2024, and full electric. Currently there are 3984 EVs under a year old, waiting for an owner. Those cars are no longer attractive to a company or fleet because the tax concessions available on new are not available on used. So the target buyer for those cars is private buyers, but to attract them, the price needs to be a good saving on new, and new ones are being more and more heavily discounted. To recap, reg figures of new EVs is not a correlation of how many are actually finding end users.
Please keep me posted. I've got exactly the same issue
What is the new software update version?
On and on and on and on, no RESULTS OF WHAT IT WAS 😂😂😂
What is the cost to replace the heater?
I don’t know sorry, mine was replaced under warranty so I didn’t ask.

Looks nice in black, credit to JLR for making something a bit unusual looks wise. JLR build quality & reliability puts me off owning one of their cars unfortunately. Really surprised that for such a huge battery the range is so low, a bit disappointing that the ICE manufacturers seem to struggle to build an efficient EV capable of 4.5 - 5.5 miles per kWh like Tesla.
Are you sure , or are you subjetive ? I am comsidering one of 2019 , 170 k kilometers , warranty ran out , since 170k kilometer is 106 k miles . Thats in N.L.
You take a risk with any car out of warranty with that mileage and JLR are not top of the charts for reliability so perhaps consider a lower mileage one.
@@electricfocus1710 i hear you , thanks .

Don't forget auto charge, that you can set up on the app. After 1 charge, it's set up to automatically pay and start a charge by simply plugging in..
Yes a great feature!

What's the point of this video. EVs are the wrong focus globally as far as it goes for personal vehicles. Focus on the pollution created by the commercial vehicles like airplanes and airlines.
The point is to share the progress of EV adoption in the UK.
Thank you for the great news! 😎👍
