What do you think of this budget friendly cargo trailer conversion?
Thanks SO much Patrick for having us on your channel.

@@phillipleboa5251 Thanks so much.
Great job .
Thank you
THIS IS ABSOLUTE AMAZING !!!!! No pretense ! Just LOVE this Camper. Just love this couple. Him in his PINK and her in her BLUE !!! tooooo cute !!!! God bless and I hope they have millions of miles of travelling ahead of them. THANK YOU FOR THIS UPLOAD !!!! Greetings from South Africa. :)
Thanks SO MUCH for you kind words and for watching. Comments like these, keep us going. God bless you in South Africa.
Awesome Phillip.
i don't get the shirt color exchange, but it's not really important. Something "smells" like the wife's plan.
@@carlh-thehermitwithwi-fi679 LOL. Actually the color is a little off in the video. My shirt is like a forest green and Ricks is maroon.
@@cargoon-cargoconversionbui2880 still a good build. Remember, i can't dress myself - that's why i wear black pants, black shoes, and black socks...that way any shirt i wear matches.
How clever, practical and functional. I love that they've made the most with what they have without breaking the bank. Completely inspiring.
Thanks so much. Yes, we did this with a small budget in mind.
Thanks Lin.
Just beautiful!!!! Also, such a loving story especially when you said,”Leave the past behind!” Know it was hard because my dad was very sad when he had to retire! Hope you have a healthy and happy tourney! It just is amazing how people can ale something like a trailer and turn it into a hime away from home!
Thanks so much. Yes, it was difficult - but as time goes on, and the more we travel in it - the less he seems to miss his work trailer! LOL. Thanks again for watching and your thoughtful comment.
Thank you very much.
@mike severino thanks.
Quite a few of us need to leave the past behind! Good on ya.
@mike severino Thanks for watching.
Rick & Sharon, Nicely done ✔ 👏 👍
It was wonderful having you as a guest on the channel
Thanks so much!
Thanks so much for watching and for the kind comment.
@@NewJerseyOutdoorAdventures I think we need to re-shoot - it was windy and I was having a bad hair day! LOL -
Sharon.
I've watched hundreds of these videos while planning my 'great escape' to the outdoors. I'm really 'feeling' it with these two... especially the boat on the roof; I was trying to figure out how to carry a boat w/o having it inside a toy hauler, or towing it behind an RV. Lots of good ideas with these two.
Thanks so much for the feedback and watching. Yes, please do a conversion - you won't regret it. Best of luck!
Love your conversion! (And love this couple). Thank you for sharing.....so imformative
There’s NOTHING he didn’t think of on this conversion! And it’s obvious this man is a 100% awesome builder!! I’m glad sweet wifey suggested that he do this conversion. This man is EXTREMELY knowledgeable and, he did all this in a short amount of time! So impressive!!
Your construction knowledge is wonderful. I love this build. So very well done and the natural wood is beautiful. ❤️
Thanks. We love our little "cramper".
Thank you so much!
Good interview and well done job by them. She was wise to keep him busy after retiring from building. Camping in a home made or remodeled van or trailer is a very good way to go. Have watched most of Patricks videos two -3 times each.
Appreciate the support
Really nice interview. I love how this build helped them transition from full time work to retirement. So simple but so complete. Very well thought out.
Thanks SO much for the positive feedback and for watching!
I am glad you enjoyed this Tammi.
Excellent Build! Good taste through out the Camper- I like the wall treatment for wear and tear ! good Thought.
Thanks. We thought this would be the best option for cleaning the walls. Also it was inexpensive.
Thank you very much Duane.
Thanks Patrick. Rick and Sharon seem to have scratched their itch to get outside as well as provide a bunch of great ideas on how to get outdoors! I'm always happy to see another "gem" on your channel and this one is a great example of repurposing, as well as adding only what you need, not what everybody has. Great stuff.
Thanks so much for watching, Dave. Patrick did a wonderful job filming. We are honored to be on his channel. Yes, we wanted a simple build, as we believe that sometimes less is more. Thanks again.
Our pleasure!
He's very knowledgeable. I'd trust anything he's done. What a nice, simple-living couple! They have EVERYTHING that is needed in their build.
Thanks for the kind words & thanks for watching!
Nice simple build.....and they use it! I'm inspired. I have been in touch with a company called weeroll trailers in Florida. They basically sell insulated ulility shells that you build out.
Thanks for watching and commenting. YES we camp in this at least 1 weekend a month. Is is simple, yet very practical for us.
Thank you very much.
Nicely done cargo conversion, thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
You bet
You get 10,000 bonus points for NOT putting holes in the roof. Good job!
haha. Yes, Rick didn't want to do that. Thanks for watching!
I know that had to be sad, but atleast you get to sleep in your memories. God Bless.
Yes, thank you
A practical fellow builds a practical RV and it's awesome. 2 weeks? Unbelievable.
Well he is a builder - so 2 weeks was realistic for him. Thanks for watching.
Thank you Patrick, you always find good folks to interview.
thanks.
@@cargoon-cargoconversionbui2880 You're very welcome. Great to see your build.
Very nice 👍🏽
I LIKE THIS GUY ALREADY. HARD-WORKING AMERICAN WHO IS AS GENUINE AS THEY COME. NEED MORE LIKE HIM.
Thank you SO much and thanks for watching.
So simple yet so functional. Love the shirts.
Thanks so much!
Not sure if I responded. But thanks for watching and for your feedback!
@@cargoon-cargoconversionbui2880 love the simplicity, but please invest in a proper towing hitch
@@brianking9215 We usually tow with Rick's van - that has a good hitch, but the van needs a new engine and we are getting ready to replace it. We don't plan on towing much more with the Explorer. But YES - you are absolutely right if we do, we need a better hitch.
Cramper...Lol. It might be small but it is SWEET! Great job!
Yes Rick calls it the cramper - too funny. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I love it!
I love these practical functional builds than the "aesthetic" ones.
Me too
Thanks for watching.
Just thought I'd relate an experience I had when fitting out a Dodge Van as a "camper" (which to me meant pretty much a place to sleep and store portable camping stuff) many years ago. I got a brand new truck and decided I would finish the inside with 1/4" Luan plywood. After doing the entire inside so I had wood walls I thought I was good to go. Until summer hit and the truck spent full days sitting out in the hot sun. When I got in each day the truck had a smell and my breathing and eyes were burning. Dodge said they would not consider looking at the vehicle to determine where the fumes were coming from until I put it back in its original form. So I took all the wood out and the smell was gone. The consensus of thinking was that the formaldehyde that had been used in the manufacture of the Luan plywood was cooking out and responsible for the odor. I think FEMA had a similar problem with small trailers they supplied to flood victims during one of the hurricanes. I mention this because I have seen folks use plywood for interior floors, walls and ceilings in these conversions. Something to pay attention to.
Wow that's crazy. Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching.
Wow, nice build, neet and clean, I am impressed. Good Job!
Thanks so much. It's simple, inexpensive and meets our needs.
I'm glad you like it
@@cargoon-cargoconversionbui2880 Thank you, have a wonderful time traveling.
@@r.c.7762 Thanks. We hope to do a very budget friendly van conversion and head out West soon. We're just happy campers!
Don’t retire , build trailers ! This is a super build
Yes 🙌🏼
The toilet is perfect clean no mess 5 gallon bucket with 13 gallon trash bag works for me !!!!!!!
Everyone has their own preference
Great video Patrick keep them coming. He did a nice job on this trailer I am thinking of getting one of these trailers.
Go for it!
Thanks and thanks for watching.
This is a great trailer well done! I would hire you to build out a camping trailer any day you sure thought of everything! ! Enjoy retirement many many happy trails. 😊👍💛
THANK YOU!
Wow, thank you!
Beautiful
Thank you.
Thank you! Cheers!
Simple, clean and functional.
Thank you!
Yes. Sometimes there is a distinct beauty in simplicity. The older we get - the more simple we keep things. LOL. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Wow, I LOVE the detail that went into this build, they seem to have thought of everything! If he ever wants to come out of retirement he could covert trailers and sell them all day long. :)
I totally agree!
He may indeed to that soon. Thanks for watching.
Great build Rick and Sharon. Thank you for sharing Patrick.
THANKS for watching and commenting. Patrick did a great job editing!
You bet
"And in here is... a bucket that we use for a toilet..." Sorry guys, that's where you lost me.
Guess you have never been camping or outdoors ..
Well done sir, love the thoughtful planning and clean, common sense execution. Travel safely, have fun!
Glad you enjoyed it
Wow! Nice job! Love that trailer.
Thanks. Yes, we love it and use it often.
Thank you very much.
"...and this is our utensils drawer where we keep all our utensils when we are not using our utensils..."
Really Good Video & A Really Great Build & Thanks For Showing & Talking About it ALL To Include The Cost, We Have Been Talking About This For A WHILE NOW & I Believe This Is A BETTER UNIT At A Better Cost & Will Outlast The RV's By Probably 10 to 20 Years & You Can Change or Add What Ever You Want & For Not Alot Of Money ,Time Or Work & Take it Where Ever You Want or Need So Thanks !!! If you don't want or do want a tandem axle spend the money and get 8 or 10 ply tires and trailer brakes. That should be first on the list before anything.
Thank you very much
Very nice trailer conversion and great couple! You can tell the labor of love that was put into everything!
Thank you very much
Such a smart couple. Nice work.
We agree!
Well, THANK YOU!!! We enjoy it - camping and the whole community. It's a lot of fun. Do what you love - that is smart.
Love these folks - what an awesome couple and an excellent build! Thanks for posting this, and wishing them the best in their journeys.
Couldn't agree more!
Thank you.
Very nice build. It’s perfect for how they use it. I love the tee shirts. Thanks Patrick. Ciao, 👩🌾
Thanks for your feedback and for watching.
Thanks so much
Rick and Sharon are the cutest couple and their build is fabulous 😍
Aww...Thanks SO much! So glad you enjoyed it, Tamara. Thanks again.
Perfect balance of comfort and transport.
Very practical.

That's very good skills to build in 2 weeks. I thought you would have said 3 months. Enjoy retirement!
Glad you enjoyed it Richard
Thanks for the video and tips,, I use to live in Toms River NJ,, ie Manchester Twnship neighbor,,,,

Thank you very much
Enjoy your caravan hope you get to see the USA in good weather and with best friends
Thank you very much
Nice! Looks comfortable to camp in!
It is. It's small - but it works for us. If we go long distance for months at a time, we may want to go larger.
It is!
gOOD JOB, YOU CAN USE A STANDARD TOILET SEAT. YOUR BUCKET , WORKS GOOD.
Great setup
Every thing was well done i am on my path to living free pay no rent thanks ken
Glad it was helpful Ken
yes physically dismantle the past, grieve, move on. life
Yes 👍🏽
Im in NJ, currently converting a 6 by 12 single axle into a toy hauler/camper. Fun project, moving along nicely
Let’s get it on the channel when it’s done.
@@NewJerseyOutdoorAdventures I don't know about that. I appreciate the offer, we'll see when it's done though
Now thats a pretty slick set up,, I really like how the bed is set up !

Watch DIYfferent on UA-cam & they are remodeling a small bus.
These videos are so interesting!
Thanks, we'll check it out.
Cool, thanks!
Wow super nice lil camper trailer, he's got skills so glad his wife said let's do this because he's a happy retired hubby ❤ 😀
Thank you very much.
Thanks so much
The DIY camper trailer is awesome great job.. Imagine by the teardrop or one of those manufactured ones you'll pay at least $15,000 probably 20-30 thousand he cut all those in half awesome now that's DIY..
Thanks for watching & commenting. Yes, it can be done on a budget if you just sacrifice some bells and whistles. This works great for us! Thanks again.
@@cargoon-cargoconversionbui2880 Good Morgan welcome my friend I to build my own van and I'm in the process of building a camper trailer myself who's right now as we speak that's the way to do my friend DIY is always a way to go to Don to buy brand new don't. ..
I knew you would like this one.
Very nice build out. I really like the "garage" area.
Thanks!
Omg Patrick, how did I miss this one!!!! So glad I found it today. It’s super awesome. Thanks again for another great tour. You never disappoint 💜
Glad it was helpful
Very nice. 1 thing to consider, Some of the videos i seen had people putting holes in the bed platform for ventilation and mole prevention.Gd luck and stay safe
We didn't think of that since the platform itself is slatted and well ventilated. But you do bring up a good point. I'm sure Rick can easily drill holes in the wood that is attached to the cushions. Thanks for your input and thanks for watching.
Great point!
What a sweet down to earth couple. Have fun traveling, exploring and meeting fellow travelers! Actually I was thinking about a small aluminum cargo trailer myself.
What a great interview! I’m inspired🙌🏻
So haply it helped
Put a Vent through the door and you don’t need to keep the doors open
Good tip
Has he ever weighed the camper when it was complete? I know these size trailers start around 650 pounds.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Rick thinks it weights about a ton now, before the build out, it was about 1230 pounds.
Sharon, the guest has answered your comment.
@@NewJerseyOutdoorAdventures Did I miss a comment? I don't see it.
Very well done guys. I like your rig.
Thanks! 👍
There's beauty in the simplicity...
Thank you Patrick 🙏🏾
Isn't that the truth. It took us 6 decades to learn that! Thanks for watching.
I am happy you liked this one.
Hey buddy I was around your way in NJ , I drove from VA in June 2021, I stayed in CheeseQuake State park… hopefully when I get back that way, it’s would be great to meet you.. I have a 2021 Ram Promaster Dodge which I converted myself to a Class B RV… I am installing a Ziro Freeze AC that should arrive in June 30-21… see you in the park….
Oh wow, yes absolutely would love to feature you on the channel. Newjerseyoutdooradventures@gmail.com
Great use of space , Thanks rick and Sharon.
Glad you found the channel
This is a fantastic conversion. You have so much knowledge and your explanations are clear and easy to understand. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching and the feedback. Rick is a wonderful craftsman, he's well-spoken and he has a lot of wisdom. I'M just the sidekick - and the brains of our youtube channel.
Glad it was helpful!
I wonder how a 2014 Jeep wrangler 2 door would handle towing something like this. I’m thinking about building something similar and not sure if I’d want to got to a 5x8 just to be safe with less room though
This is a nice job on the conversion! I know you do a lot of these interviews on utility trailer conversion. They are all very interesting! My son just converted a 7x14 trailer and we can't find anyone to insure a converted utility trailer. And I'm an insurance agent LOL. Have any of your interviewee's ever talked about this? Are they just insuring the trailer, but not all the work and equipment inside?
Really like this build. Very simple design but extremely functional and has most (if not all! of the features anyone would want.
How does the 6 by 12 layout here compare to that of a converted ambulance build......i'm guessing they are similar dimensions. $7,000 or so for everything ( much of which, including the A/C and small fridge, one probably already has at home) is a bargain for this trailer.......not punching a hole in the roof for a fan installation was a smart idea
Great job!
Thank you, Mike and thanks for watching.
Thank you! Cheers!
This was a great video to see what can be done with a little. My wife and I are on the lower end of fixed income so we are always looking at ways to create a liveable CT; we'll be living full time in ours so we'll be looking at a bit wider and longer CT AND staying within what my F150 will pull and more importantly STOP! Thanks again for the great info. SC / las vegas, nevada
I’m happy this video was helpful for you
Thank You For Sharing! He did an amazing job converting the cargo trailer!
Very nice job! I'm wondering how you know how to connect the converter and the plumbing? I'm a woman who is unskilled in these matters, and I don't know anyone to help me.
Beautiful couple 🙏🇳🇿❤️
Yes 🙌🏼
Super helpful video! I was unsure about committing to a kitchen only accessible to outside. But having a “kitchenette” inside to put on coffee, even fry an egg and make toast on a rainy morning, makes it really practical to have a closed off “patio” kitchen. Then I can have the big kitchen’s focus be on grilling .
Thanks for such a helpful and detailed walkthrough!
Glad it was helpful!
Only thing i would suggest, is definitely have some smoke detectors especially in that rear kitchen are, i hope you have a couple back there, but great minimalist design
Love this build! Simple and comfortable, great work!
Congrats 👏 great job.
Thanks, Tom.
Thank you very much Tom.
Enjoy that camper and retirement! Such a well thought out; practical build. I like that you had the skills and access to used cabinets that you made work with your plan. Of all the practical things you have incorporated that magnetic screen door cover is #1. I’m from Minnesota and without that the swarms would drive you home. That has to be especially nice for extra fresh air on nice days.
Thank you very much
Yes, the magnetic screens are great. Thanks for watching.
Really nice cargo camper conversion. One concern is they need to put the carbon monoxide detector near the floor. Smoke detector goes near the ceiling, carbon monoxide detector goes near the floor.
I love it thinking of making on.
Go for it
Buy bug zapper at Ocean State Job Lot to kill flies, mosquitoes.
Thanks for doing this video. I am eagerly awaiting my brand new 5 x 8 conversion project, didn’t know what I was going to use as ceiling material. Now I know!
Congratulations
Good idea for the microwave
Yes, thanks
Nice Job.... I am in the process of converting an 8x16 v-nose cargo trailer into an RV and Mobile Sign Shop. I am just starting the walls and cabinets construction. I just sold a 15-passenger shuttle bus that I lived in for 3 years and traveled out west during the winters. I had to sell the shuttle bus because I purchased a large format color printer to make contour cut decals/stickers, koozies, t-shirts, magnetics, banners, mousepads, etc. The large format color printer would have taken up a lot of storage space so I needed to get something bigger. I did a complete conversion series on the shuttle bus from the ground up and now am doing a new series on the cargo trailer conversion. They are on my YT channel.
Thanks for the info
I wonder if u really do need a lot of storage when ur thinking of building this kind of camper…
Great job guys. Very sensical. Including his hindsight, and her safety awareness. What a sweet couple. Two peas in a pod. Heading over to their channel now...cheers...
Thank you for checking out the tour
Hy I grew up in left NJ to high cost living thinking getting small trailer convert camper
OUTSTANDING Conversion on the cheap! Joisey ingenuity at it's best!
Glad you enjoyed the tour
I think you did a great job on the cago trailer conversion way to go guys.🥰
Thanks Again for Sharing
Thanks for watching.
Watched all of it
Yay 😀
Did you fasten your cabinets to just the plywood or to the trailer metal frame?
I'll take retirement for that. What a master builder! Great design & thought behind everything, Awesome!
Thank you very much
Cool little trailer , just add some solar even tho you don’t use it much but it will be more efficient and will give you more freedom.
Thanks. Perhaps in the future. Thanks again for watching.
