Hey everybody, quick correction: Some of you were pointing out that you can get higher power-draw out of the RTX 3050 Ti using the laptop’s power profiles. After setting the laptop to “Performance mode” in the Lenovo Vantage App, the RTX 3050 Ti would draw up to 85w compared to the 60w max shown in the video. So this laptop does indeed have a full power RTX 3050 Ti in it. I’m terms of performance: BF V Balanced mode (max 60w, seen in video) Avg: 90 FPS 1%: 39 FPS Performance mode (max about 85w) Avg: 95 FPS 1%: 33 FPS Sorry about missing out that detail in the video. I will administer the appropriate self flagellation as punishment for my incompetence.
I think the matt plastic and simple black colour scheme looks really nice and understated. Not a fan of gaming laptops which have the loud "GAMER" aesthetic.
My dad's old HP laptop (2nd gen Intel old) has a small removable panel with just 3 screws and you could easily access the RAM slots, WiFi / BT card, and 2.5" drive bay, and it made it a breeze to upgrade. My 2 year old Lenovo has soldered RAM and requires a pentalobe screwdriver to open. It's amazing how much we have regressed in terms of laptop upgradeability.
MacBook Pros used to be easy to upgrade, too. It wasn’t until the Retina MacBook Pro in 2012 that they started using pentalobe screws and soldered on RAM.
I bought a 5800H + 3050ti@85W Legion 5 for my brother as his gift when he went into college last year. Though it costs around $1000, the building quality, GPU overclocking, and CPU undervolt abilities are really amazig. It's rare that a $1000-ish laptop GPU can actually run to its maxinum without getting too hot or underclocking itself. By restricting the CPU to 45W + undervolting, Its program compiling speed is way way faster than my old i5-9300H.
You were not in the FN+Q Power Profile Performance Mode so the GPU won't pull 85w and the cpu would also got a boost if you enabled it... but i guess you didn't know you could switch to the Performance Mode? its also accessible via Lenovo Vantage
@@melmito No problem! Sorry that it took so long. I was just out of town for a family members wedding. So I didn’t have access to the laptop this weekend. Thanks again for the info. 😃
This makes sense if you feel like you need a mobile gaming setup. But I think except for a small number of users a desktop is the only gaming device you need
You have to remember, in Alder Lake 45W mobile CPU class, the i5 has only 4P cores. You need the i7 to get 6P cores for gaming. E cores don't do shit for gaming , probably only good to run bloatware that the laptop comes with. If its a desktop Alder Lake CPU, then yeah, the i5 has 6P cores which is more than enough.
my cousin has a bit older version of this lenovo, an i5 11th gen? and rtx 3050 non ti and it is pretty solid. definitely added a second 8gb ddr4 stick as soon as possible
@@condorX2 No way. Not at double the price point. Shopped around and found others just like this with some slight differences in cpu, ram, ssd, etc. I don't need a new PC, but a cheap enough laptop upgrade I'll certainly pull the trigger. 😁
Still using my Rog Zephyrus G14 with the Ryzen 9 and 2060 MaxQ. Got it just before things went to shit via pandemic and then the crazy gpu stuff. It has treated me well and still gets plenty of use
That display measures worse than the 2001 Gateway 17" LCD I just replaced, jeez. I get a lot of customers coming in looking for laptops for UA-cam video editing, so thanks for showing that.
Great video man! With Lenovo Legion laptops… there is a balanced mode, silent mode, and turbo mode. It looks like you had it in balance mowed the whole time. Next time… hit Fn+Q on your keyboard, and you will see the power button light up different colors. Red is turbo mode, white is balanced, and blue is silent. Most likely turbo mode it will boost the GPU to 80W.
In terms of how many screws, that reminds me of my old hp pavilion beats edition. That thing was a PAIN just to open, and you need to take out the entire motherboard just to upgrade the ram, it also had an amd A8-5545m with one copper heat pipe connected to a garbage fan that broke within a year of use, and it liked to throttle to 1.68Ghz.
if the hp pavillion beats edition you had is the same as i have, the ram is the easiest upgrade, take off panel on the back, pop in another ram, put panel back on, no need to take the laptop apart.
It should be mandatory in the laptop industry to have panel on the bottom, with normal screws, which when removed exposes the SSD slot and upgradable RAM. ..........My old Lenovo Z580 has it. But every other laptop I've opened has been a nightmare..
I had a friend who only used gaming laptops for work, and gaming but he replaced thermal paste every time since he mostly bought used ones and put a SATA SSD in them.
7:06 there’s so much wasted room near the battery, they could’ve added an additional M.2 slot or 2.5 expansion bay. It’s nice to have extra storage since budget gaming laptops sometimes only come with 256 gb. My HP gaming 15 has one which was really helpful for downloading more than 2 games I put in a 512 gb
I have this laptop and the reason there is space there next to the battery is because it also comes with a bigger 4-cell battery (which I have) which fills up that space. Also it does have a second M.2 slot, it's in the bottom right corner a 2280 bay and there is also a 2242 M.2 slot which is Gen 4.
I've had my 17" 2060 Leg-Ion laptop for about 2 years now. A couple week ago It started having charging issues. The charger was extremely flaky when plugged in the laptop port holding the port in a very particular way barely charging it. I thought the solder joints failed since the charge cable was perfectly unkinked. I contacted warranty support. They had a box shipped out the next day. I shipped it and the next day I got an email they received it. cool right. The repair took about 2 days and over the weekend. They shipped it back after the weekend. I got my same laptop back with a new charger and an incorrect generic Lenovo Windows image fresh installed. I know its a generic Lenovo image because it didn't have any of the Leg-ion Vantage tools or the Leg-Ion desktop wallpaper (I really liked that wallpaper 😞) now its some ugly generic green lenovo wallpaper and on top of that I've spent at least 2 hours so far trying to figure out the damn unknown hardware in device manager!!! Ive tried all the drivers listed for my model on the website and its still unknown😡 WHY THE F*** DID THEY RE IMAGE IT IN THE FIRST PLACE WHEN IT WAS NOT EVEN SOFTWARE RELATED. I know it wasn't software related because when I received it I tried my original charger, and it did the same flaky barely able to charge issue. the new charger works fine
The insides remind me a lot of my older model Acer Predator, but at that point maybe it's just the most efficient way of doing motherboards on gaming laptops
Man, this is a great budget buy. Perfect for a collage student. My part about this laptop is all the ports that are in the back. The thing I dislike is the all that wasted empty space for the battery. And also it's acceptable that they're still doing the power plug type, but we need to be moving to USB Type-C by next generation. I suspect that Lenovo is just trying to use up it's stock of its proprietary connector. Why change when everyone else is doing their own power connector type too, haven't consolidated using USB-C yet.
I actually have the iteration before this one and the wasted area next to the battery is an area to hook up an internal hard drive. You are right though this is perfect for me as a college student, but that extra battery would be nice considering I don't use the internal hard drive space
I bought a 10500H / RTX 3060 (70W) laptop last year for a bit more than this and it is very capable with a 32GB RAM kit installed in it. That said, when the 3060 is at 100% the fans barely spool up but when the 10500H goes past 15% utilization it cranks the fans and pours out heat like a volcano.
I own an older version of this laptop with Ryzen 5 4600h and GTX 1650. It's almost a couple of years old now, but it still runs fantastically well! Also, it came with a 256 GB ssd and 1 TB hard disk; which I upgraded 2 TB Hard disk and an additional 1 TB SSD. The laptop had costed me ₹63000 (roughly $1000) back then and it's worth every penny!

It did come with 1x 512GB NVME storage and 1x8 GB of ram, which i upgraded to 2x8 from my old laptop and to 1.5TB storage with a 1TB samsung evo 870 SSD. Honestly an amazing laptop for the prize, and i even plan to put in another 512 GB of storage in here later on. EDIT: I forgot to mention it has one of the best luxuries ever: a detachable battery without any teardwown. just two clicks and it's out. To be completely fair, LTT has been doing teardowns for a while now. It also feels like since they started doing them there have been less glued together soldered-ssd abominations.
I have the AMD version of this laptop that came stock with 16 GB of dual channel memory and non-Ti RTX 3050. As a laptop for the kiddo to play Roblox, Minecraft, etc, it’s perfectly serviceable, and we’re quite happy with it.
I got a used Asus TUF Dash F15 for £610 with the i5 11300H and RTX 3060 because the 3060 is so much better than the 3050 ti. It was fairly easy to open but they decided to use 2 different lengths of screws. Once inside there was a free sodimm slot which the previous owner had filled with an 8gb 3200mhz stick (and runs in dual channel with the sadly soldered onboard ram) and a free NVME slot which I put an extra 1TB SSD in.
Wow I feel kinda jealous because I bought that same of laptop from a 2nd hand seller for aprox. $730 in my country and it came with a 11th gen i7 and a basic RTX 3050
Had to pause the video just to say that was the best sponsor plug I've ever seen. Dawid, you've got "it" son, you've got "it" (definitely a good thing 😁)
I also compared the cinebench results. This notebook is on par with the Macbook Air M2 in single thread and 10-20% faster than the fastest Macbook M1 Max. Pretty cool!
Downward facing speakers actually work well from the laptops I've had. They make some tingy speakers sound fuller since they'd be bouncing sound off like a wood tabletop (metal and glass are a big F tho...) Sometimes I still get surprised how well some song sound just on speakers!
i was thinking it was a good idea too having downward facing speakers, people that use laptops drink around them and if they spill anything over it, it won't leak into the circuit of the system.
@@ultimategohan1551 i was thinking when it's closed spilling on top of the cover, but maybe you're right. although i would have thought under the keyboard is a spill trap. i'm a pc gamer and i've built like 5 gaming pc's, i don't know much about laptops they just annoy me.

I have this laptop but with the ryzen 5 5600h. It’s been a great laptop for both my college classes and gaming. Mine is the older model, but it’s still pretty great
I got a 4800h/1660ti laptop for 650 a year and a half ago, upgraded to 32gb ram and a full TB for a grand total of 850. Love it so much, deal of a decade.
At this price, I'm still pretty happy with the £999 I paid for my legion with a 5800 and 3060 18 months ago. Also, the legion is FAR easier to take apart and upgrade ram and nvme.

dawid put nearly as much effort into the linode add as he did the entire video

Other youtubers when they review a gaming laptop: Tell its specs & start opening(booting up)
meanwhile dawid: starts opening up the screws
To be completely fair, LTT has been doing teardowns for a while now. It also feels like since they started doing them there have been less glued together soldered-ssd abominations.
I have the ryzen 6000 version of that laptop and I genuinely have been looking for days for a teardown to use as a reference
I have the AMD version of this laptop that came stock with 16 GB of dual channel memory and non-Ti RTX 3050. As a laptop for the kiddo to play Roblox, Minecraft, etc, it’s perfectly serviceable, and we’re quite happy with it.
It's hella enough for only mostly Roblox and Minecraft
Always love your content, keep doing your job Dawid
I gotta say, I've never loved an ad read so thoroughly
Had to pause the video just to say that was the best sponsor plug I've ever seen. Dawid, you've got "it" son, you've got "it" (definitely a good thing 😁)
that linode ad is awsome!
"square usb ports"
that's what I learned today.
"learned"
the guy who made that artwork would be really pissed hearing this 7:34 lol
Haha!! That’s true. Artists do not seem to like AI.
Love the LINODE! Spot but what accent were you going for there?
Well with 2 memory slots for this price point, is quite unusual as today most laptop offer only one, or worst, none at all.
I also compared the cinebench results. This notebook is on par with the Macbook Air M2 in single thread and 10-20% faster than the fastest Macbook M1 Max. Pretty cool!
I am simple man. I see Dawid. I watch Dawid. I enjoy Linode sponsor read. I click like on Dawid. I am simple man.
Downward facing speakers actually work well from the laptops I've had. They make some tingy speakers sound fuller since they'd be bouncing sound off like a wood tabletop (metal and glass are a big F tho...)
Sometimes I still get surprised how well some song sound just on speakers!
i was thinking it was a good idea too having downward facing speakers, people that use laptops drink around them and if they spill anything over it, it won't leak into the circuit of the system.
@@mentalasylumescapee6389 i mean any modern laptop if you spill something its getting inside via the keyboard anyway
@@ultimategohan1551 i was thinking when it's closed spilling on top of the cover, but maybe you're right. although i would have thought under the keyboard is a spill trap. i'm a pc gamer and i've built like 5 gaming pc's, i don't know much about laptops they just annoy me.
@@mentalasylumescapee6389 yea if liquid gets under the keyboard im pretty sure its going straight to the motherboard om a laptop
I just got the Acer Nitro 5 with i7-11800h, RTX 3060 95w, 1TB M.2 SSD and 16 gigs of ram for $900 and guy also included brand new Razer Viper Ultimate and Razer Blackshark V2 headset, Laptop was a brand new too, everything was in their boxes. So basically I paid $650-700 for the laptop after we factor in the Razer peripherals cost in the total price
Micro center version is $750 6800H 16/512 and 3050
I loved the "cofee & couch" Linooooooode ad 🤩
I literally liked the video just because of the AD LMAO 😂😂
the same laptop probably cost atleast $1100 from where i live
It's a lot like "happy" tv series but for the inside of people and computer parts.
Great video Dawid great content! What is the CPU / GPU overlay you use for your tests?
Thanks! I use MSI afterburner. You can find a whole bunch of guides on UA-cam about how to set up the overlay for MSI afterburner. 👍
@@DawidDoesTechStuff awesome thank you so much!!!
60w on the GPU might mean you’re on the quiet fan profile. Switch it to performance profile within vantage.
can confirm its 85w on performance
Can it be upgraded to 32 gb of ram? And can I use it for music production?
was not expecting the Shelby Foote ad
I gave no idea why off axis viewing from a side is anything to worry about. I dont know off anybody that would put a pc screen off to the side and veiw it like that.
That plug for Linode, though... 🤣
Bro, the Linode spot 😂😂😂 I'm cryin'
Lmao this Linode ad was awesome, ngl Dawid looked like an AI NPC in it XD
It's $1400 on that amazon link
although it looks good but personally i try to avoid thin bezel since my friend had problem with thin bezel laptop that end affecting the display, but the new trend is thinner bezel, just expect any brands makes more improvement on that part
I have this laptop but with the ryzen 5 5600h. It’s been a great laptop for both my college classes and gaming. Mine is the older model, but it’s still pretty great
Would be a hit out of the park but I really would like just a simple backlit keyboard, NO RGB shenanigans. Still an insane deal for the money.
I got a 4800h/1660ti laptop for 650 a year and a half ago, upgraded to 32gb ram and a full TB for a grand total of 850. Love it so much, deal of a decade.
Woah ok that temperatues are making me panicking but now you convinced me that I can safely playing on my Laptop with these temps😅👍
I've got an 8th gen intel and just added a 16gig stick. 24gigs of which 16 are dual channel is still pretty good and a reasonable priced upgrade.
I like that Linode advertisement! Sounds like it will work well in my ranch.
Actually not bad deal with that laptop. Powerful enough to play games and relatively small to be carried around.
Hey mate can you put an aio on a gt710 to make it as cold as you can?
Man, that Linode read caught me off guard. Interesting to see a laptop that isn't basically waiting to become napalm.
Really convinced by the quality of this thingy. =)
At this price, I'm still pretty happy with the £999 I paid for my legion with a 5800 and 3060 18 months ago.
Also, the legion is FAR easier to take apart and upgrade ram and nvme.

We always enjoying your videos
