EDIT: It was MY mistake -- the appointment was on Dec 22, NOT Jan 22nd. She goes in this Thursday to find out what's going on with fuse blowing out and start issue.
I had the exact same issue. Made sure I got good voltage from the battery, battery fully charged. I tried replacing the starter relay, didn’t resolve the issue. Made sure that the ground cable near the starter motor was secure. Finally, I located the bolt on the starter motor that connects to the wiring harness. I tightened this bolt and voila! She was alive again. Maybe this might help you, good luck!
Hey Petrol I was looking at getting the new 21 + Aprilia . I’m on my second RSV4 had a 16RF, currently on 18 RSV4LE . Thank you for sharing your experience I’ll probably wait another year seems like every new gen vehicles there is always issue. I been shopping at GP cycles for years that ridiculous for you to wait till 1/22 when they should be able to work with you. As much bikes Paul sell they should also have a repair shop big enough along mechanics to accommodate there customers along, knowingly that there the nearest Aprilia dealership from GP is over a 100miles Santa Monica Aprilia . I wish you the best please keep us in the loop.
I own a 2021 RS660, the same thing happened a few times when first starting the engine in the morning, but it hasn't happened for a while now. The engine would start after some trying and little waiting, kind of when the bike falls and does not star immediately after you picked it up. I did not take it to the dealer since it seems the problem worked itself out. Having said that I have some reservations regarding Aprilia's dealer over here and am not very happy about the quality of the work done on my bike. The product is good, design is awsome but they have to fix some things in many areas. Hope they fix your bike soon and for free.
Had the same problem 2 months ago with my RS660. Had to switch off the bike because I was stuck in traffic, and it was more than 105°F. 2 minutes after my bike just wouldn't start, i was just 500meters away from my destination, so I pushed it all they through. Tried to start it while pushing it, motor just kept cranking and cranking, and when I arrived the damn thing suddenly started! I tried to switch on and off and it started again like as if nothing happened! I sent it back to the dealer, they found nothing wrong with the electronics but they had to make an "update" on the software. Right now it runs fine, but there are times that there's a bit of a misfire when restrting the engine after I gas up after a long run of about 30mins or more. Did some research, and found a old video saying that it was the ignition wire, he had to replace it with a thicker one then it solved the problem. That's just for the startimg issue, though. Just hope it won't have any other issues.
Hey I have a 21 RSV4 myself and had a similar issue! Turned out the bolt on the starter motor backed out enough so it wasn’t making enough contact to start the bike. I would just get a click (like in the video). The dealer was also a bit stumped and called Aprilia for hints. Ever since then she’s been fine 7k miles and going
Hello!! I had the exact same problem you have!! , it’s the electrical terminal on the starter itself that need to be cleaned, they put some kind of grease on the terminal and the cable and I think that cause the problem. The noise at the back is the relay closing to let the current pass from the battery to the starter. In my case, i have removed the fairing, unscrewed the bolt holding the cable on the starter(it’s a narrow space to work, but i have been able to do it) i have cleaned it with a towel, put the cable into place (make sure the bolt is tight). It worked for me, and it was exactly, like very exactly 😉the same problem! Otherwise it’s a dead starter…. Hope it helped!

Sounds like the battery terminals. My dealership forgot to tighten it mine and had the same starting and turning off issues. I also kept blowing my fuse because I didn’t install my fender eliminator turn signals properly.
Brother is Aprilia. I have the rs660 tons of problems so far with only 1345 miles is been in and out of the shop. Kick sensor, throttle body replace , and fixed after a weeks of been replace. Took it out last week to check a rsv4 didn’t buy it. 10 minutes after I left the dealer the rs 660 was dripping oil, turned around and left the bike there. Sad part it takes long time to get the bike back. Good luck with the rsv4. I’ll probably look into the s1000rr of a boring Japanese bike like a lot of people call them , but I bet they don’t have that many problems 😅.
Out of the box, S1K's are very boring. You need full exhaust and tune to make it exciting. The new 2023 ones are dope but still needs money to make it fun. Nothing beats Italian as far as fun is concerned but they come with issues as you know. Sigh... PS: S1K is bmw (German.. not Japanese)

Probably it will be about 3 months before u can ride the bike again. That sucks. But keep up with the content of the bike. Really good. Shoot out all the way from Port Charlotte, Florida .

Im a fan brother of your RSV4 I think the most heartbreaking thing of the situation is the dealer response & Service. One of the reasons I love my dealership where I got my bike is there service dept & the lads that run it.

I have the 22 rsv4, test your coolant with a cheap refractometer “get on Amazon” my bike had 100% antifreeze in it. Dealer refused to flush the radiator because it was normal for these bikes to “run hot” . Well I flushed it today with a 40/60 mix coolant/distilled water and now it does not “run hot” anymore. Check yours

Probably when they changed the tire, triggered something, check your kickstand sensor, or safety down sensor. Also you need to disconnect the battery and press on the brake to reset the computer.
The tire was changed long before the track event and I rode it about 100+ miles and started and stopped it multiple times so that's not the issue. How does the computer have power to reset if you disconnect the battery?
Its nice to hear about the street triple being reliable for you. How many miles do you have on it it? I was looking at KTMs and Aprilias for my next bike, but I'm starting to get swayed towards the striple because of what I hear about it's reliability.
09 speedie 45k never been track been holding off, been riding street daily when weather permits on weekends 400-600 miles been a fun bike I got a buddy with 21 v4 factory with same problem did the power cable upgrade and now worked for a bit and now it won’t crank.
Sorry man I just bought a 2021 also rsv4 Factory. I'm having the same exact issue bro. Riding it home I stopped at a friend's house to show him my new bike. When I go to leave it won't start same exact issue you were having clicking but no cranking. Luckily he lived on a hill and I bump started at home. Did you solve the problem yet
Hate to see it man. Unfortunately, I’ve seen sooo many reliability issues with aprilia from content creators and buddies of mine. They’re beautiful, but I won’t be buying any Italian bikes!
I recently purchased a Tuono 660 Factory from GP Cycles and thankfully, so far, I haven't had issues with the bike... Have you considered taking the bike into another Aprilia certified dealer? (or call around to see if they can take a look?) I'm assuming the bike would still have the manufacturer's warranty to cover the cost if the bike is really faulty (from factory). Sharing/asking my 2 cents! I took my bike into a different dealership for the first service light; it was to turn off the light, as I did the 1st service myself; oil change, air filter check, going over the bolts and nuts, all listed in the manual.
@@PetroHead Sorry for the lack of context. I live in Orange County and traveled down south (to SD) to pick up the bike. I went to a dealer local to me, which was KTM/Aprilia in Orange. I wasn't pointing you to a specific dealer, but perhaps suggested looking/asking other dealers somewhat in your vicinity, other than GP.
Just recently, the fuel indicator started blinking when only 1/4 tank was finished from empty.. but when I flashed it, it never returned. Just flash with Gabro as soon as you buy it and it should resolve a lot of gremlins.
Not yet.. I got a call saying bike started but they want to discuss with Piagio so this doesn’t happen again and find what the solution is. I’m happy to wait.
Sorry you're having issues on the Aprilia. It'll work out, I'm sure. The Street Triple RS is fantastic! Ordered the 2023 Street Moto2. I have the Daytona Moto2 so I know the 765. Get rid of it and get a S1000RR.
Dude! I have EXACTLY the same issue with my RSV4 (2019). One day you ride, no issues what so ever and the next day... Nothing only the clicking of the starter relay. Replaced the battery, checked the fuses, stand sensor, cables, connectors every fucking thing... I'm puzzled. 😳
Sorry bro! Dealer called me yesterday.. they said they messed with starter relay but didn’t have to fix anything and it’s been starting up fine. They also said they will call Aprilia to see what could be done cuz like you, this seems random and most likely will happen again.
@@PetroHead Yea, I did some diagnostics myself, and came to the conclusion that very likely it's the starter relay. I will replace it and see what happens.
To continue to correctly troubleshoot you should have checked to see of you had power at the starter if you can get to it(and you would need a fluke) if you have power then it's the starter. The clicking you're hearing is the starter relay which it sounds like power is there but still needs to be confirmed? The reason I stayed away from aprilia and then I turned around and purchased a tuono. Say a prayer for me🙏🤣🤣🤣
I'm a idiot squid not a mechanic so It'll get seen on Dec 22nd. As far as Ape goes... they are such crazy bikes.. exciting right out of the gate.. needs NOTHING unlike boring dad bikes (cough cough S1K).. but its temperamental like a super model.. you never know what it will do next lol
Get a hold of the contact information for your Aprilia regional service representative. They usually travel between the stores and every Piaggio service manager has their number. Be polite, be precise in your communication, and let him investigate. They have great technical understanding in addition to experience navigating the warranty process. Your issues may already be in the process of becoming a "service advisory" or "warranty repair". I'd also link him to your channel and how reasonable you have been with GP Motorcycles and how far-reaching your content extends in viewership. Best of luck. Oh, did you try bypassing the starter solenoid with a screwdriver?
Great recommendation! I'll try doing some homework on finding this person next week. Starter solenoid --- I am unfamiliar with bikes in general and have no idea what that is. This is best dealt with by techs and not an idiot like me. haha
@@PetroHead Bypassing the solenoid is really quite easy, especially after viewing one of the many videos on the subject on UA-cam. Trust me, you can do this!
@@PetroHead it ended up blowing a few more times. Carried spares. Likely due to my exhaust cause the servo was runnning and blowing the fuse. Ran a servo eliminator and stopped having the issue. I guess it’s common if you’re running aftermarket exhausts
Italian bikes makes you feel special and unique there are no exactly 100% reliable bike but japanese would always have the least problematic ones, i hope theres japanese bikes out there great enough to woo you' whats the point of exotic bike if you cant even use it ✌️
You dealer is shocking. I've had 3 problems and a recall on my bmw, soon as I had the problem, I rang, they pick it up. If it was going to take more than one day like it did. I got any other bmw to ride. I'd contact the main boss of the dealership. Hope you get it sorted. 👍🏼
Gotcha. If you have patience on waiting for service, there usually is a solution but sometimes, it’s an endless amount of issues and that’s when you get fed up I guess. Bike is great when it works though!
@@PetroHead I know, I had a Rs 660. Loved that bike. I have two Aprilia dealers both about 2 hours away. I got rid of the ape for that reason! I just traded it in for a Streetfighter v2. I have a great Ducati dealership right by me. Aprilias are like super models very high maintenance!

just got my 2023 rsv4 1100 factory, 500 miles and same damn issue, no start and now the dash wont even turn on - battery is full (tested) - what was your solution? im thinking the starter but it shouldnt affect the dash from at least turning on.. ugh so frustrated..

i just ordered my coolant for my 22 rsv4... it's just get 117Celsus degre in my first use and engine went off... so now im scared..

same thing happened just now on my 21 Tuono V4. Found a loose nut on the starter wire at the starter.

My guess would be a sensor issue somehow related to the gearbox.
Looks like a starter relay, u know u can fit a Honda one in with a bit of mod. Currently riding 18rr.

Those liter bikes tear up the tires. I prefer the feel of lets say a s1000rr on track but ride a dayrona 675r to save on tires.

Get a hold of the contact information for your Aprilia regional service representative. They usually travel between the stores and every Piaggio service manager has their number. Be polite, be precise in your communication, and let him investigate. They have great technical understanding in addition to experience navigating the warranty process. Your issues may already be in the process of becoming a "service advisory" or "warranty repair". I'd also link him to your channel and how reasonable you have been with GP Motorcycles and how far-reaching your content extends in viewership. Best of luck. Oh, did you try bypassing the starter solenoid with a screwdriver?
Great recommendation! I'll try doing some homework on finding this person next week. Starter solenoid --- I am unfamiliar with bikes in general and have no idea what that is. This is best dealt with by techs and not an idiot like me. haha
@@PetroHead Bypassing the solenoid is really quite easy, especially after viewing one of the many videos on the subject on UA-cam. Trust me, you can do this!

@@PetroHead it ended up blowing a few more times. Carried spares. Likely due to my exhaust cause the servo was runnning and blowing the fuse. Ran a servo eliminator and stopped having the issue. I guess it’s common if you’re running aftermarket exhausts
Wait.. so your telling me that your servo that was no longer attached to the factory exhaust causes fuse #5 to blow?? This is so unrelated and weird.

Italian bikes makes you feel special and unique there are no exactly 100% reliable bike but japanese would always have the least problematic ones, i hope theres japanese bikes out there great enough to woo you' whats the point of exotic bike if you cant even use it ✌️

You dealer is shocking. I've had 3 problems and a recall on my bmw, soon as I had the problem, I rang, they pick it up. If it was going to take more than one day like it did. I got any other bmw to ride.
I'd contact the main boss of the dealership.

Gotcha. If you have patience on waiting for service, there usually is a solution but sometimes, it’s an endless amount of issues and that’s when you get fed up I guess. Bike is great when it works though!

Dealers are spaced hundreds of miles apart. It really sucks.
@@PetroHead I know, I had a Rs 660. Loved that bike. I have two Aprilia dealers both about 2 hours away. I got rid of the ape for that reason! I just traded it in for a Streetfighter v2. I have a great Ducati dealership right by me. Aprilias are like super models very high maintenance!

A lot of industry's hare getting bad wiring harnesses atm might be the root cause of your problem.
Don't know why they even bother to put headlights and tail lights on these things. They're too unreliable for a street bike.

just got my 2023 rsv4 1100 factory, 500 miles and same damn issue, no start and now the dash wont even turn on - battery is full (tested) - what was your solution? im thinking the starter but it shouldnt affect the dash from at least turning on.. ugh so frustrated..
Check fuse #5.. prob blown fuse. welcome to the Aprilia ownerships ups and downs.
