  • In this video I have a look at a customers 2016 Chevy 1500 5.3 that has a customer complaint of an EVAP leak. All of us in the rust belt are pretty familiar with these rot box Chevy's and their EVAP leaks so I was pretty surprised when the customer told me he had it at two shops and they both told him there was NO LEAK! Needless to say I was disappointed after recording this one to find out Hellen Keller could have found this one.

Sorry, but I have to start pinning this until I learn how to speak clearly again. I am not having a stroke nor do I have bell’s palsy, a brain tumor or MS. I do not have ALS or a migraine. Please stop calling my shop to notify me or Mrs.O that I can not speak clearly. I am very aware of my inability to "pronunciate" words like I use to and she is also aware of my slurred speech. We live together and work together and I even talk to her. I have an upper palate expander in my mouth. It interferes with my tongue. Shcrews up my shpeech . Thank you for your concerns.

Just had a evap fixed on my 14 encore and it’s on top of the tank, they had to remove the rear drive shaft and exhaust and tank to do it. 3 1/2 to 4 hour job and started home and it was making a new clicking sound and vibrating at 45 miles hr. Called them and took it back, somehow the bearing on the end of the shaft was broken, and the new part is over $800 I don’t feel like I should have to pay for a new part, they said they would install free. And it wasn’t broken before they worked on it.

To be fair, the leak is on the top side of the tank, so the 'smoke' (actually oil vapor) dissipates and is harder to see if one is just looking underneath the vehicle. But any competent (emphasis on that word) mechanic should have found this, on that we can agree. The trouble is, in every arena of life these days, it is getting harder to find competent workers, for many different reasons that are too numerous to discuss here.

Once again, you prove the difference between a diagnostician and a parts changer.....you UNDERSTAND the correlation between the various components and their interaction with each other. The knowledge is out there, but sadly most of the paycheck mechanics just go by the tests, and if the issue doesn't jump out at them, they pass it on out the shop. Planned obsolence is a thing but emissions controls is not where they generally practice it because it would be a huge money loser for the manufacturer and annoy all the dealer techs who get paid a fraction of book rate to do warranty work. (Federal and California emissions component warranties). Its just designed to spec, then the components are shopped out to the lowest bidder. The failure mode Eric described is specific to probably less than 20% of the buying public (sadly including me) plus most of the failures likely fall outside of even California's emissions component warranty (this one would not by year, but likely does by miles) so it is a "safe" gamble for the manufacturers.

Clearly they would take care of you, and get you the medical attention you need IF you needed it, thus your speech problem is already being attended to by a physician. 3) Jeeze Louise people THINK before calling SMA.

The code only set in the summer in the warm weather, and in the winter code never set. Never had a gas smell. The vent and the purge solenoid, and the gas cap are all good finally figured out it was the evap canister. The previous owner must’ve kept over, filling the tank and wrecked the Evap cannister. I replaced Evap cannister with a used one from the wreckers and it is OK now.
