You guys are amazing! I'm not a watch guy but had to re watch w/o sound to catch a glimpse and match it with David's link. More important, about your comment; I've been drawn into Mayer from the Dead space; but now that I've seen UA-cams of him with everyone... Crossroads, Stones, Leon Russell, Thundercat, Buddy Guy, BB, even Barbra Streisand and Steve Jobs, plus his own work (especially the JM Trio): Have to say, maybe not "the best", but his top-shelf skills, when combined with that self-awareness you mention make him an uncannily perfect fit everywhere! He is the "Guitar Zelig" of the generation.
Mayer is the sole reason Dead and Company has reached another entire generation. Bob Weir made a genius move to approach him about joining the band. He’s been amazing.
I've seen hundreds of interviews with John Mayer, and this is hands down one of the best. Like John said early on, these were good questions about areas of his life that he hadn't publicly explored yet.
I love this guy. His music, his demeanor, attitude... everything. From being really cool, see how uncomfortable he gets when they play his music infront of him. Unbelievably the self deprecating going on outside of his ego is astounding.
I dig his descriptions of the creative process. The man is gifted. His understanding of the concept of a "hit", a polished hit, and the road to getting there is fascinating to me. I'm sorry, he's narcissistic, but he's genius.
I'm proud of John. He's come a long, long way. Can't wait to see what the next years would bring for him, and what he would bring for us. Only a few artists have allowed themselves to be this vulnerable.

They can sing each others songs as if it's their own! I also love that their personalities compliment each other so well on stage as well, not to mention they are both very easy on the eye! A perfect duo because they are both so immensely talented!!! My favorite will always be John's bluesier tunes.

"I guess I just felt like giving up today" All of the above... in TWO songs.
MORE MAYER LESS POLITICS I really like this guy John Mayer! His mind is prolific & sound. His music completely fills me up. I'm done for the day after the last Mayer song.

Haters can "say" what they need to say. :P John Mayer doesn't need to prove anything to anyone. Just play on, Johnnie boy! Thanks for this interview, Bobby Bones.
I love how he describes the geometric visuals he gets playing guitar. It makes so much sense. Piano players learn linearly. Guitar players learn geometrically. It's just the nature of the instrument. I hope that some day I get to the level where the shapes connect to emotion and I can play intuitively with feeling like the masters.

Yep, David. Good eye.
Thanks. Same to you! Even though I love my watches, I would never never picked up that was an AP unless you mentioned it.
He has like a multi-million dollar collection. Huge vintage Rolex and IWC guy
FAN-TAS-TIC INTERVIEW.. feels completely fresh, and the questions i've always wondered about were asked (clay cook relationship for example)..
I watched this interview maybe 6 times this past year. Sooo good
I dig his descriptions of the creative process. The man is gifted. His understanding of the concept of a "hit", a polished hit, and the road to getting there is fascinating to me. I'm sorry, he's narcissistic, but he's genius.
amazing vibe.... bobby, you are actually a great interviewer
Roy Matz that says a lot also about Mayer because I haven't seen many people saying that to an interviewer.
I'm proud of John. He's come a long, long way. Can't wait to see what the next years would bring for him, and what he would bring for us. Only a few artists have allowed themselves to be this vulnerable.
I love this man and his mind.
That's because you have not met me at 230 in The morning. Yet
This interview is one of the most close, human and passionate I’ve ever heard in my life. The honesty leaves me lost for words. So inspiring .
This is easily the best John Mayer interview out there, well done Bobby!
john mayers explanation about people liking his songs and they way he composes was spot on. only a true musician totally understands what he means.
I set my alarm to hear this interview live. Two of my favorite people in one room. I ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ John Mayer!!!!!
panamanianprincess22 John Mayer and Keith Urban. Both soooooo talented.
Love it when an artist actually is enjoying an interview and of course when an interviewer asks the right questions you want to hear
Seriously what a great interview. I'm sure it made up for not being able to attend the show. Great dialogue, you can just tell how intelligent you both are here.
You can almost hear her getting wet over Johns story about the dog and how he's the statue. Dude is smooth. Gotta love JM!
the funny thing is if it was anyone but John she would think the guy was a total loser. also, was she serious when she asked "what do you think of my painting, as an artist?"
you could see mayer was like :| "uhhhh"
Grassy Harkins, I know right! He played it off well.
No, saddest line ever is "I'll survive on the breath you are finished with"
All of Stop This Train completely wrecked me when I first heard it. Probably the saddest, most relatable song for me.
@@cebrinpitts All of Born And Raised the song is brutal too once you get there in your life. I'd say late 20's that song hits you like a bus
Jordan McGinnis I’m only 18 but I still everyday feel like I missed out on my childhood. My parents never married (I saw both of them 3-4 times a week) but My mom worked 2-3 jobs at a time. I didnt play with my dog enough, I took her for granted until I knew she was gonna pass in April, I Just was social awkward and I feel like I missed out on my childhood and knowing you’ll never be able to get that time back Makes Born and Raised Fuckin Steamroll u with emotion.
@@Jake21128 We all have regrets...with hindsight. That is how we grow. You're 18...u have your whole life ahead of you. Forgive yourself (and others)....move forward and ENJOY YOUR LIFE (with a little JM music by your side). All the best.
Scott Hazlewood 💯👍🏼
This was the 5th time I listened this..... And I will come back next week.... It's a threat!!!
This interview made my commute to work this morning so relaxing. And now I'm a John Mayer fan.
I love how eccentric yet real his personality is.. Deep conversations with him wud be a treat!
I wouldn't ever want him to stop talking. Just the way his mind works! What an amazingly interesting guy!
I'd listen to him speak forever.
Wow! Great interview. I love his honesty and vulnerability here. Always, always a fan.
I could listen to John talk all day breaking down his songs. And i admire his thick skin in accepting that radio has a prejudice against him and his music. Sad that he's not on radio as much as his music deserves, the radio waves are the poorer for it. You rock John Mayer.
One of the best interviews with a musician I’ve ever seen. Hands down.
I'm slightly drunk and everything about this video just clicks with me
I'm always so engrossed when I hear John Mayer speak, he's matured to such a perfect mix of experienced talent and experienced self awareness.
Nice try john
Lmao I agree man john is articulate
Same
Hey bud I love you
I feel bad now bc he played 'Waiting on the world to change' in Dallas lmao
hahahha same
juanderful12
Yeah, I'm mad he didn't play "Your Body is a Wonderland," the girl I took who's dating me mostly because she says I look like a Latino Mayer would've gone nuts.
NirvanaFan4Life are you still dating her?
I was there, the tempo was pretty fast, like he wanted to hurry up and get it over with.
@@martinone9 yea its kinda off his vocal range rn since surgery so he had to improvise the vocals here and there
Love John Mayer! I agree, Gravity is a BEAUTIFUL song. My favorite collaboration that he has done, is with Keith Urban. These two voices compliment each other so well as do their guitar skills. They can sing each others songs as if it's their own! I also love that their personalities compliment each other so well on stage as well, not to mention they are both very easy on the eye! A perfect duo because they are both so immensely talented!!! My favorite will always be John's bluesier tunes.
I love him so much it's unreal
17:10 "Saddest lyric I've ever written", then literally comes up two years later (2019) with
"Pushing 40 in the friend-zone"
"You don't think twice about / me and maybe you're right to doubt me"
"The weight of my worries is too much to take on"
"I guess I just feel like 'What happened to that?'"
"I guess I just felt like giving up today"
All of the above... in TWO songs.
My favorite musician.
I admire him so much. He seems like a great guy to know on a personal level.
Can John Mayer tell me bedtime stories every night?
He has a very soothing spoken voice.
MORE MAYER LESS POLITICS
I really like this guy John Mayer! His mind is prolific & sound. His music completely fills me up. I'm done for the day after the last Mayer song.
The way he describes his sensation about music and how he feels it, is exactly the way you would expect a mathematician to talk about her/his sensation doing math after many, MANY years of practice and hard work
I love this man so much. The Search for Everything is such an amazing album. Love you, John ❤️
Okay, the thing about the dog made me cry. Why is John such a genuine human being??? I freaking love him. 🙏🙏🙏
i dont know how anyone could hate this man.. Yeah hes had his moments as we all have, his were just on the big screen. Seems like an extremely down to earth dude who actually cares about the people around him, but is never too afraid to speak his mind! And not to mention one of the greatest guitarists of our generation... I could even go as far as saying almost like a Hendrix of our time.
Oh man.... the statue of the dog.... jeeeeeez man. Got me in the feels. Absolutely LOVE John Mayer. His work will be revered and pondered generations from now. Sheer class.
Haters can "say" what they need to say. :P John Mayer doesn't need to prove anything to anyone. He's an incredibly gifted musician, is good to his fans and has worked hard to put his troubled years behind. If you can't see and appreciate his evolution, then please move on. Just play on, Johnnie boy!
Thanks for this interview, Bobby Bones.
Love, "Still Feel Like Your Man," starts off a little Hall & Oates'ish, with a Bossa Nova kick! Absolutely one of my favorite Mayer tunes!
Yes
I love how he describes the geometric visuals he gets playing guitar. It makes so much sense. Piano players learn linearly. Guitar players learn geometrically. It's just the nature of the instrument. I hope that some day I get to the level where the shapes connect to emotion and I can play intuitively with feeling like the masters.
every time I listen to him, I feel so blessed to have an artist like him. I mean it amazes me how people can be so eloquently intelligent and musically genius at the same time. Listening to how a song comes into existence always been a mind therapy for me . . . . ohh ya, I love the dog Hachi too,
God I really love everything about this guy. It’s amazing how much better his music makes my life ❤️
John Mayer is One.of.a.kind.. Freaking genius and gifted musician. Plus he is funny and good looking on the top of that. ♥️
I'm a little late on this but this is probably the most interesting interview I've ever watched. Props to Bobby Bones for going against the grain when it comes to music that deserves to be on the radio.
I’m 28 and John Mayer has consistently been the most influential, inspiring, and relatable dude in my lifetime. Wish more people listened to him. He’s never really preaching. Just being honest and insightful.
John's passion about making music just oozes from this interview
Man how John talks just amazes me like it's poetic if you know what I mean. Completely like his sense in music. The proper structure of words that get you on point. I am oracled🤣.
I think John Mayer is highly underrated and misunderstood. He might have done some mistakes, but we all do.And those who overlook his music because they think he is a certain way should start appreciating him 'SEPARATELY' for his music.☺
I hope somebody gets what I did with the last line..:p
What a lively, down-to-earth, in-depth interview. Leaving me with a big cheesy grin on my face, that seems to have stuck there, even while I am writing this. Love it.
Is it just me or does John Mayer really look like johnny depp now a days
I don’t see that. In earlier years there are moments John resembled Jack White from The White Stripes.
This is the best interview I’ve ever seen of John Mayer! Amazing questions and of course I expect no less of brilliant, and JM humorous answers in any interview! Great content! Sorry I am just now seeing this 5 years later!
In-depth music listeners definitely appreciate you John. Especially the more subtle music he has helped create such as many tracks on Born and Raised, one of the least popular, yet, one of the most sophisticated and intricate albums he’s put out.
I've never been more fascinated or such a huge fan of someone in my 23 years of life. He's just gifted. This interview just proves it by digging into his brain a little. Love it & love him.
Still feel like your man is one of my all time fav JM songs dude.
This is probably the best John Mayer interview ever... John really spoke candidly and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of questions being hurled at him. Bobby and his team were actually interested in listening to him, and they actually had an honest conversation. Just beautiful to experience this level of honesty and vulnerability...
Brilliant interview from both sides. JM is outspoken and loves to talk and, hey, that makes for a great interview. He is not going to appeal to everyone but he has a lot to be proud of and I don't think he's cocky at all. I am now a fan of Bobby Bones too.
The cutest when she hands him the pen at the end.
Love JM and was really impressed with the first handful of questions going deep.
that emoji joke was terrible
it was horrible
This should be the punch line
Nitay Harari He has a show that needs an act, not an act that needs a show
@@guyincognito5706 boy that was bars lol
Erik Quintanilla thanks 😂🤙
Love John Mayer and country it's great that people accept these days that people aren't one thing and are complex. Seeing him in concert is on my bucket list
Honestly it's refreshing to hear an artist be a fan of their own music in a way that isn't "Yeah I'm the greatest artist of all time" ala Kanye or something. John just likes how his stuff sounds, and that's cool.
After watching this video, I can clearly say John Mayer is not just music genius. He is Genius.
to anyone seeking an interview with Mr John Mayer. This interview should be in your research bank. I still have so many questions to some of the answer he gave... one of the most he's opened up of late, and I think probably the most accurate depiction of who John really is. One incredibly intelligent, slightly misunderstood human.
This might be one of the best interviews from the past 20 years
Oh my, this is the BEST interview I think I have ever seen. Thank you Bobby for having such great talent!
John Mayer is such a guiding light. I've never said this about any other musician and I've probably seen interviews with all of them. Thanks, John!
I've watched this interview like 20 times already. I'm so in love with it! The connection you guys have over music man I cannot wait for the bobbycast I swear 😭😭😭
He makes a great point at the beginning about what songs people seem like like and how its the middle range of what he thinks is interesting. This is a truth in the creative process for sure.
He has the power to inspire me on so many levels. Thank you John
john blew it out of the water with Dead & Co...epically transcending. He's so humble...genuine trait. fantastic.
18:05 to 18:12 is pure magic...you cant write a moment like that in movies as perfect as that
John is one of the few artists I could sit with and listen to him explain his entire discography
seriously best fucking interview i've ever seen and maybe 4 questions 6 min in... original questions to the tee. Has a dog that hates music lmao
He seems like a tender, genuine and true full person on and off screen. Very charming charisma.
