Affordable vs Expensive Gaming Headsets - Lower Can Be Better!

- Gaming headsets come in all shapes and sizes but a higher price sometimes buys you nothing but a brand name. In this video we compare two of our favorites the Sennheiser GSP 300 and Corsair HS50 against two hopeful newcomers the Plugable HS 53 and MSI GH60. Does a higher price really lead to better sound performance and is an affordable gaming headset as good as an expensive one?

please make a comparison between a wired and a wireless headset(s), to show what you have to give up for wireless :)
great video, keep up the good work!
PeterDerBeste slight less audio quality. With wire you have ability to plug into PC sound card or amp, which will sound even better. Gotta worry bout charging the headset to function. Thats unless its like my headset steelseries 7 wireless, which as ability to do both.
PeterDerBeste I personally prefer wired headsets because they don’t have to be charged but with wired you have to deal with the cable brushing against your shoulder not that big a deal though
You're looking at someone who ended up with headphone shaped brick after contact point in wireless headset crapped out. Wired have less likelihood of failure, would be my reason to stick to one.
i dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know a way to log back into an instagram account..?
I somehow forgot the login password. I appreciate any help you can give me!
@Lian Abram instablaster :)
That cooler master fidget spinner tho
Ogulcan Yulugses cooler master sent me one for free
6:51 mic tests
I know you're not a hardcore audiophile but THANK YOU for at least describing the sound and telling us how detailed it is in the lows, mids and highs! I'm so sick of tech reviewers reviewing headphones without mentioning how it sounds. Saying it's loud or "it sounds good" doesn't help anyone when buying headphones.
13:15 Thats how i play online games :))
TANVIR MRIDHA my gaming chair is my bed :)))
Gotta hear those footsteps
That's not even his final form
My corsair void pro headset works nice and has decent sound but something internal literally broke the first time i pushed one of the buttons in and now it just jingles around in there.. annoying af
Shaderade repair them...
Then use the warranty or fix them yourself or even return them for a different headset.
I can confirm that the HS50 is completely worth it, I can hear Dimitry's deep soothing voice perfectly!
How have they held up?
@@Tacosaucemann mine broke after 6months. The sound is fine (both earpieces still work ) but the extending piece holding the earcups snapped when i slightly twisted it Repaired it with heavy duty glue and tape tho. and the mic was shitty from the start but i guess i just got a faulty one...
I have the gsp 300 and they are fantastic, I only got them because of your recommendation so thanks a ton.
How are they holding up? I'm thinking about getting them
SphyX i own one. it sounds awesome and sound isolation is amazing. it gets a little hot but not too much. it’s AMAZING, and i picked mine up for $40 so I cannot complain at all.
I got the GSP 300 by your recommendation and I'm not regretting spending the money on it, my best purchase so far! My only gripe is that the cable is a little too thin and I'm always looking for not damaging it with the chair, as I have to connect the headset to the back of my pc which is sitting under the desk, but overall is a really good headset for the price
you're the only tech youtuber that i know of that doesn't suck at csgo
I got the GSP300 because, Sennheiser.
how is the sound?
@ dude they are comfortable af, the cushions are soft and your ear doesn't touch the internal pads. (I have the gsp350+surround sound)
@@winston7055 how have they held up
@@Tacosaucemann yes I want to know too. Did you get them? Did the mic stop working
@@SkyTheGuy8 i ended up getting a steelseries headset
Love your sponsorship mini-videos, they are a blast to watch (pun fully intended). I wish real commercials were so creative more often.
My Corsair Hs 60's still hold up really solid after 2 years of everyday use. These were probably the best 50 dollar headphones I ever bought. I recomend, especially while using Dolby Atmos for headphones.
Really nice overview overall. Yet I'd like to see you grow the level of audio reviews like Jim from Jim's review room. Not an insult coz you should know I love you guys. We need to be part of the listening experience please. Shout out to Eber too.
Speaking of JimsReviewRoom, he's been gone for quite a while now, eh? And so suddenly. Any idea what happened?
Benyamin Lorit dude I left a comment asking where he is but I have no idea.
Ah, that's too bad. Even his social media has got no activity since his last video post and he was already doing so well with so much potential. Channels die like this and if his really does die then that would be a real shame.
Benyamin Lorit so true, let's hope it's not so.
i have the GSP 300 , and i can say they are a beast for the price , i don't like the cable tho , feels cheap and fragile , but so far it's alive since one year :D
the HS53 sounded the best with the mic.
where to buy it ?
Yeah i agree HS53 sounded best!
I wonder which Windows 10 Default format he is using for recording his microphone.
I can hear difference between 16bit - 24bit ,and for sure 24bit sound more fuller.
description
no the HS53 is not in the description , maybe corsair has paid to remove the link because for half the price this headset it better
GSP300 smoked the hs50
I bought the GSP300 a month ago because of your review and I'm really happy with them, great headset
Is it still alive?
@@cypheronjv3939 Mic has been dead for two months now. Heaphones are still working ok though but the padding has come unstitched.
Recently moved on to the HD 599, much better channel separation.
The GSP 300 are great if you find them no sale. Otherwise I would not reccomend them now.
They lasted two years of heavy use, mind you.
I just bought the GSP 300, so far so good. Love it more than my other one, the Logitech G633.
Hey I am currently using G633 (for almost 4 years) and want to buy a new one. Thinking about gsp 300 and saw your comment, so I would be very happy if you can compare the two with a little detail for me.
How have the gsp 300 held up
i have the Logitech G933 right now and want to upgrade. I play FPS games like fortnite or PUBG. I was looking at the steel series arctic pro with the DAC. I do not know much about using a dac but from reviews and what i have seen people are saying its better off to get a Dac that can work on any headset. What would you recommend. I was looking at the Senheiser gsp 500 and GSX 1000 or is there a better option for less? Thank you!
The coolermaster MH751 is good
GSP 300 is my fav out of the bunch
Lol I thought my headphones is budget one , thanks star lord
To be honest:
In my opinion I would never get something else than a HyperX Cloud standard wired headset in ANY price range, unless you plan to listen to music while doing NOTHING else.
It sounds great, the mic is ok and for very different tonality you can swap out pads like crazy. If you can cheaply source brainwavz sheepskin pads from somewhere you can even get a nice balanced sound with a pretty wide soundstage for a closed back headphone.
If you really want to step up your game get serious and buy headphones for at least 150-200 bucks. Everything below will most likely be more of a "sidegrade" than an upgrade and just isn't worth the extra amount of money, especially not in the headset market.
Until Audeze Mobius arrives at my doorstep and proves to be awesome I would never recommend "high end" headsets period. Sennheisers have not been stellar price to performance wise and beyerdynamics is toooo "special" in it's tuning to be more than just a glorified device for gaming only. The Clouds are good value for the money, even for headphones in general and for a real upgrade just save up your money for a few months or years and get a good headphone with a decent Dac&Amp combo.
Sorry, but I disagree. The audiophile market in itself is a very niche market and we saw with Audeze and (sadly) Ossic X that the demand for this is not low. And to be honest, I don't see how the price is too high in relation to the market it targets.
Quite the opposite actually.
You get a Bluetooth headphone with LDAC a detachable mic, a somewhat public friendly design, a 3D function that is reportedly superb and to top it of a 100 mm Planar driver with Fazors.
I don't see how these are features that most people will never use or the broad audio and gamer market doesn't care about. Quite the opposite actually, it's more like the ultimate crowd pleaser.
LDAC will automatically be used via Android, most people nowadays that don't have a clue about anything want Bluetooth in general and the headset function including the 3D Audio is exactly what the gamer market wants, top it off with a probably high end sound (as far as closed headphones are concerned) and you have far more to offer than Sennheiser or Beyer in the same price bracket.
I'm still fearful of the sound quality though, since I'm a bit skeptical about the Cipher DAC&DSP solution including the fact you won't be able to use your own audio chain but I'm open for it and looking at Audezes track record the worry is slight at best.
This is becoming my go-to channel for my gaming headset needs. Thanks for the videos!
Could you do a comparison video on building your own gaming headset using higher quality relatively inexpensive headphones combined with 3.5mm boom or in-line microphone cables?
I recently put down my Sennheiser PC 37Xs for a pair of Philips SHP9500s combined with the V-Moda BoomPro microphone cable. I got the SHP9500s on sale for about $60 USD, and the BoomPro mic was around $28 USD, and the combination is easily comparable if not even better/more comfortable than my PC 37Xs. As far as I can tell, the BoomPro mic is also comparable to Sennheiser's. I have received zero complaints from teammates when gaming for extended periods of time (3+ hours in a sitting).
Sound cards and other DAC/Amp audio solutions also make a HUGE difference at these price points as many on-board audio solutions and drivers make inexpensive or mid-range headsets just sound atrocious. Even just a $100 internal sound card like the Creative SoundBlaster Z or a simple external Class T amp by the likes of SMSL (like $60-90) can amplify the signal enough to make your cheap equipment sound much better. Maybe another video idea = inexpensive headphone amp that really improve audio quality for those best bang-for-the-buck headphones and headsets. Maybe less than $130-150 total audio solution?
Hey, a little recommendation.
For the next comparison video, it would be ideal if you put a little tag on the lower side of the screen for the viewer to know the name of the headset and what kind of commentary your are making.
Let's say like:
HS50
Mic quaility
GSP 300 or HyperX cloud alpha any Thoughts?
Aerwyna gsp 300
Aerwyna which one you brought? Is it worthy?
If you aren't really safe with the hs50's,the plastic part that covers the adjustment part breaks easily and after a few months the clamping force drastically lowers. Also your ears touch the drivers which becomes quite uncomfortable after an hour or so,and gunk gets in the mesh on the sides.
Got my GSP300 at 65€ on a sale. Fantastic headphones, though mic is strange. My real life friends says that it doesn't sound like my real voice, even though it's clear and detailed.
I own hyper x alpha atm. Cheaper than that, I highly recommend take corsair hs50. The reason I swap to alpha because of colour themed with my pc.
is it comfortable
GSP 300 is not only in blue, GSP 301, 302 and 303 are the same headsets in white, red and black.
Hello can I ask you which is better in one word? sennheiser gsp 350 or hyperx cloud revolver s?
I bought the Steelseries Arctis 5 for $140 CAD and I've never been happier with a headset. It's comfortable (I've used in 8+ hours gaming sessions without problem) and they sound amazing. Unbeatable in my opinion.
IceFTW they are great. Have the acrtis 7 which is same audio drivers. Plugged into a PC Sound card only makes it even better, after eq adjusting.
Clearly don’t know shit about audio. These are fucking awful compared to any sub 100 dollar headphone from a REAL audio company. Sennheiser PC38X would blow anything from Steelseries right out of the water for a much cheaper price.
and in Peru the gsp 300 is almost $100, good job Perú GOOD JOB!
I need your help.. Between steelseries Arctis 3/5 2019 version and corsair HS50, which one would you prefer for sound quality.. I mean the balance with gaming and music.. I don't really care about microphone because two of them are fine
Get the Arctis if you’re looking for comfort but the HS50 sounds amazing
Listening from the HS50s. Best pair of cans I've ever bought.
Please, i need your answers ASAP. Which is better overall the Corsair HS50 or Hyperx Cloud Stinger. I really love gaming and im a hardcore fortnite gamer and im in PS4. Thanks :) (my main criterias are comfort, sound, and mic and I also WEAR GLASSES)
>hardcore gamer
>plays fortnite
Jk
here in Argentina the corsails cost about a 100dls. a bit less, but not much and in some stores even more.
Did i mentiones that due to devaluation the minimum salary went from about 500dls to less than 350?
You guys should review the Razer Thresher TE for the $100 Price point!
Still, none of these can compete with HyperX Cloud Alpha and Cooler master MH752
You're wrong actually.
I like this channel because there is a lot of audio content compared to the other ones. Please continue with it! Any chance for Corsair HS70 review?
Cooler Master MH751 best bang for the buck!
HS50 here. Sounds great, mic needs some tweaking but quite usable. Ears get sweaty after awhile.
I have the sennheiser gsp300 and i love them truly the best headset i ever owned 😀
I have gsp350 which is the same but with surround controls. Love them. When these breaks i'm trying some +200€ Sennheisers
Jin- have they broke yet?
Flame Gaming just some scratches on the earmufs, but they still work as good as new
Anyone having issues with the Corsair HS50 where the mic picks up the audio playing from the earcups?
Yo can you help me out with GSP300 VS GSP350, or it is just the same but with 7.1 system. However, I see someone mention on the reddit is if you got a good onboard sound GSP300 sound might even better than the GSP350 even we are not active the 7.1 because the sound card that come with 350 is very low quality, is it true?
.
ps. my motherboard is MSI Z170A GAMING M3 sir
They arent complaining about microphone but about a russian in an NA game lolz, jk
He doesnt play NA though.
Lasse Reinlaufen why wouldn't he? He lives in Canada.
Mr.Z Eber lives in Canada, Dmitry is from Bulgaria.
Steamed Hams During their computex coverage it was mentioned several times and you also rarely see them making a video together.
Hey Dmitry, really like your review videos. Would like to ask if you made comment on the microphone quality listening to them directly through the headset (I mean like for example commenting on the Sennheiser's mic listening to the sound drivers from same Sennheiser headset) or have you pre-recorded all the microphones sound and then listening to all of them from only 1 headphone/monitoring speakers, maybe like a referencing headphone. Don't get me wrong, I really think your opinions on the microphone quality are 100% on-point, just wondering how do you compare the microphones so accurately.
What about hyperx cloud alpha?
I use Hifiman Edition X and Sennheiser HD 660S for gaming.
Gsp 300 or hyperx cloud alpha?
Agustin Seery gsp300 hands down
BTW the Game One's are at 150 instead of 250 dollars on Amazon (US)
Why there is no cloud alpha :( in my opinion it is sick in 100 dolar price point
Life is great when you just bought a headset several hours ago and the tech lads started to make reviews about headsets. Even though i bought a Sennheiser PC 360 for around 35 bucks with only unbalanced audio problems it still kinda hurt
So when I got the gsp 300, my friends kept telling me that my Mic was to quiet, so I boosted the sound, and they kept saying that it sounded fuzzy, it, might have been my somewhat old motherboard but, I got tired of them complaining, so I just bought the blue snowball Mic instead and now it's fine, but, yeah, they're great at everything else
I like the new "real world playing matches on camera". Great work
Interesting GSP300 is 75€, while HS50 is 63€ in Latvia, definitely 12€ difference is worth the more expensive model in this case
Yes for sure!
I am both a passionate gamer and a music enthousiast. Sound is a big deal, as you won't buy a 50$ monitor... One has to put what needs to be for quality. An AKG K702 is about 120$ and nothing can compare to this pure clean professionnal quality. Modmic it if you really need a mic like that, or use a nice external microphone like a Yeti Snowball which costs less and has no flaw, be it for voice chat or voice over and you have the best audio quality one can buy for far less $ than those "pay the brand" sponsors "gaming" whatnots.
sennheiser GSP300 vs. hyperX cloud alpha? i'm really stuck on these two.
Cloud alpha
Alpha
Sennheiser GSP300 or Steel Series Arctis 5?
GSP 300
Im getting the HS50 i found them at 50 and linus tested razer manowar and hs50 vs others based on accuracy in aiming and pointing and HS50 came in 1st.
GSP 300 2 times expensive but i believe gsp 300 2 times better other pairs other than the aesthetic
Awesome review, as usual. HOWever my like also goes towards the Corsair H500P Mesh skit... Awesome edit! love the creativity behind the product features.
well in my country gsp300 is 15% more expensive than GH60, do you recommend going for gsp 300? I'm a little confused!!
"fantastic sound" for $100, no no no.. Never ever going back to gaming headsets.
Why what is the product you use
many people choose to use regular headphones that have a detachable cable to attach their own microphone to. a common example this is the philips shp9500 with the v moda boom pro microphone. that’ll run you about $115 in the U.S. tho. it’s just that when you’re in the $100 price range for a good gaming audio setup, going for a headset is pointless when you can get a good headphone and a good microphone for the same price, whereas you’re most likely compromising on audio quality and mic quality on a headset. محمد السعدي
I love how Dmitri just calmly puts four headsets on without wavering during the end lmao
That's how you do 😎
@@HardwareCanucks
that's is very useful review and nice comparison but i'm little confused with a lot of option i saw many of video reviews about budget headset i prefer fabric earpads because leather make my ear sweaty so this video shows msi more comfortable to me i like the gsp 300 by your recommendation but it has leather earpads the gsp have the best sound stage and you said in this video that msi have good sound quality i need your help so i can make my mind for gsp or msi
what do you think of msi immerse gh60? i need your opinion
I always end up going back to your reviews when I look for things I want to buy. Thanks, Starlord. I mean Dmitri.
What I like about the GSP 300 series is that there ARE other color options: white, black, and red
I bought a GAME ONE (the open back ones) off your video recomendation, i bought lightly used on amazon from a company called blinq for like 89$ other than the box being messed up it was great, like 34% off what a deal. thanks for the recommendation Dimitri, I appreciate these videos and in general videos with a more reasonable budget, the razer huntsman keyboard looks awesome but I'm not paying 200$ for something like that.
Everybody looking for a headset for the holidays, PLEASE buy the HS60 on amazon! Usually 70 dollars right now is on sale for 37 dollars!! I bought a pair last week and I do not regret it. Feels AMAZING and goes around your whole ear.
I bought hs60 for $35 from best buy with $5 physical damage 2 year protection plan so $40 plus tax ... Nice headset sound good too...
I personally love the HS 50
What about the Hyperx Cloud Stinger for 50$? Can it hold up to the Corsair HS50
You should of chose the Corsair HS60. It’s cheap coming at $95AUD and has surround sound and a decent sounded and detachable mic
Please make a corsair hs50 vs hyperX stinger😍
Roccats Khan Pro is also Hi-Res certified, and it costs 90€.
At my school, we use headphones that have no padding and the drivers just smush your ear
Please do a logitech g430 review
picked out a GSP300 for $40 - sound isolation surprises me to this date.
Gamdias Hephaestus P1 RGB has the best mic under 100 Dollar. Heck, the mic is better than even some 200/300 USD headsets.
What is your opinion of Razor Electra v2? Is it a good headset for gaming?
HS53 definitely sounds the best. I could hardly tell the difference between it and whatever mic you're using with the camera for the video itself lol. Pretty amazing for 50 bucks!
A couple of your videos helped me out making the decision to buy the GSP 300. Thanks! 😃
can share your experience?
I think the cloud stinger deserved a spot here
Am I the only one who thinks the HS53's microphone is amazing? Best out of the 4
I think that the Turtle Beach Elite Atlas (not the atlas pro bundle) also costs approx 100$. might have been the Turtle Beach Atlas Three... not sure, but if you could I would very much appreciate a review of either the TB Atlas Three or TB Atlas Two. There are no reviews with mic tests and any relevant info in english on youtube sadly.
Sennheiser gsp500 vs corsair void pro... Witch is better?
No hyperX cloud alpha ?
How about a review of a non-gaming headset in a gaming environment. I've been looking at Sennheiser's HD4.40BT and HD4.50BTNC, and would love how they do for gaming. Especially since the HD4.40 is a $90 wireless headset.
In terms of sound and mic quality, the GSP 300 is fantastic. It was a bit uncomfortable for me though, my ears touched the driver. After one year, the earpads broke open, exposing the foam, which was really annoying. My friend had the same problem, so it might be common. Not that I don't like the headset, but I've only heard good things about it, so I wanted to share this here.
can you review the modular headsets Plantronics RIG 500 series?
actually decided on upgrading to the gsp300 a few days ago~
timing gives me the creeps :§
Btw there are different colors for the GSP 300
what about using a DAC? I got the Logitech G433 last year they sound ok so I kept using the cloud2 but I ended getting an astro mixamp for my console audio after try both on pc and ps4 I can tell the G433 came alive even better sounding than cloud, so I bet those Corsair HS50 with DAC should be better and one of the best options for 50 bucks semiopen with mic
great video brobro
I use an hyperX cloud alpha
Can you review the Sentey GS-4560? It's a great headset, I have one. It has a built-in subwoofer, great sound quality, and a great mic. I don't really know if they sell them anymore, though.
" It has a built-in subwoofer"
.....why..... but seriously, if it has a 'built-in subwoofer' I guarantee you, it sounding good to you means you've simply not heard anything better.
Wait, why do you want them to review something you already have? Do you need them to validate your choices?
Why MH752 are not on the list?
I've heard lots of great things about the Cougar Phontum headset for about $50
Listening to this wearing the HS50's 😂
King How are they? Seen some reviews saying the mic picks up audio leak from the driver. Also, if you wear glasses, are they still comfortable?
Anthony Ngo They’ve been my best pair so far out of all I tried and I highly recommend them. Quite sturdy, not too much clamping force, comfortable earcups (I never found my ears sweating or anything after a long session), detachable mic is great and the mic quality itself is pretty good.
I can’t say I noticed anything about mic picking up audio leakage but then again I have never really listened back to myself (those who I chat with online don’t seem to notice anything at least).
I myself wear glasses and they are still quite comfortable. The earcups, in a way, mould around them whenever I wear them. As with all headsets, when wearing glasses it’s not perfect but this pair does the job fine.
So yeah, overall a great headset for anyone on a bit of a budget/not wanting to look too flashy or anything. Would be better with Surround Sound as it’s currently Stereo but oh well.
I also learned recently that there is now some new versions of this headset, these being :
HS60 - 7.1 Surround Sound (£70)
HS70 - Wireless, 7.1 Surround Sound (£100)
King That's great to hear, I'll probably put on an order for them soon! I've seen the HS60/70 but it's around $20 CAD more. Imo the 7.1 surround sounds worse than normal stereo so HS50s are probably a better fit.
King hi! I was just wondering if you could comment on whether you get any sort of positional awareness from this headset and if u do, how well can you determine where a certain type of sound comes from? Looking to buy these for playing r6s xDD. Cant increase budget anymore sadly
Well given that they're Stereo headphones, the positional awareness won't be as good as a pair with Surround Sound. You get left and right sound, that's about it. With that being said, however, it does the job fine for me, and I play games such as CSGO. I can tell what side of me the enemy is shooting from and almost all the time if I turn in that direction I'll notice them on my screen (kinda defeating the purpose of Surround Sound where you can more accurately pinpoint the enemy's location). I don't see much benefit however that benefit may be found in a pair of Surround Sound headsets. If you want a more immersive experience/feel as though you would benefit a lot from it, you can always get the Corsair HS60's - which are just the HS50's but with Surround Sound and an extra £20 price tag. Otherwise just stick with the cheap and cheerful version. Hope this helped :)
Cloud Alpha with the new earpads that hyperx did are so good
