      Yeah, the frankness really surprised me when the Irma was bearing down two years ago. I would expect Disney to be more gentle about it than naming a life-threatening weather event, rather than just saying "weather"

      WalkerFilms So I had to drive home from Ft Lauderdale to Pensacola on September 11th. It was the most surreal thing I’ve ever seen. The governor was terrified Disney would be a target so they opened all tolls and encouraged everyone to go home. Nobody moved and if they did they didn’t take the highway. A 10 1/2 hr drive took me 8. I saw 3 cops the entire length of the state.

It capsized during hurricane Irma 2 years ago. Many people take pictures and board the capsized ship Bc it hasn’t fully sunk and it never will due to it resting on the shore. The video was fantastic! Whenever you're in FL, there's a hurricane! Mother Nature doesn't want you to have a nice vacation! I've experienced Sandy back in 2012 when I was living in NJ, it was hit hard. I had power but majority of my neighborhood didn't. Lots of flooding and debris, my middle school was closed for some time as it was near the river. It took a while for NY and NJ to heal from Sandy

    • @syxepop
      @syxepop 5 років тому

      Avery the Cuban-American, oye ¨panita¨, nosotros en Puertorro tuvimos la experiencia hace 2 años (20 Septiembre ´17) de María (vientos sostenidos de 160 mph en en sureste y un estimado de 120 mph sostenidos en Bayamón, donde vivo) y un huracán de ese nivel (como 13 horas de vientos huracanados vs. 40 horas en Ábaco y Freeport) no se lo desearías NI A TU PEOR ENEMIGO.
      Espero que los hispano parlantes cooperen con comida no perecedera y medicinas sin receta (además de cualquier artículo que ellos pidiesen especialmente) para NUESTROS HERMANOS Y HERMANAS BAHAMEÑOS que SE LO MERECEN. Si Jake no ha podido publicar los links para la ayuda busquen atraves de la BAHAMAS RED CROSS directamente o atraves de fondos establecidos por la AMERICAN RED CROSS - CRUZ ROJA AMERICANA (la misma que maneja las emergencias en la Isla) para hacerla llegar a su contraparte en esas islas. Ellos han sido altamente confiables en situaciones similares y tienen la responsabilidad financiera para hacer llegar los fondos correctamente. Gracias por su entendimiento y cooperación...
      Avery, "bro"... We've already went through this 2 years ago (20 September '17) with Hurricane Maria, with 160 mph sustained winds in the southeast and ~ 120 mph in Bayamon, where I live. We had to sustain 13 hours of hurricane force winds vs. 40 hours for Abaco and Freeport and I wouldn't DESIRE THAT TO YOUR WORST ENEMY.
      Hope that the audience out there will cooperate with non-perishable food and over-the-counter medicines, along with any other item they claim as needed for OUR BAHAMIAN BROTHERS AND SISTERS that DESERVE IT. If Jake couldn't put the help links just search directly for the BAHAMAS RED CROSS or through funds established by the AMERICAN RED CROSS (same one that manages emergencies in our Island) to make it available to their sister entity up there. They have a long-established record of financial accountability in the passing of such help. Thanks for your understanding and help.

    As a fellow Canadian I was down south during this too. I was at the Nascar race in Darlington South Carolina. We had a whole road trip planned. We were planning on going to Myrtle Beach after the race weekend for a few days before heading up to Washington DC and Philly. We kept an eye on the storm as it was originally planned to hit Florida. When we returned to the place we were staying after the Xfinity race on Saturday, it was then known the course would hit the Carolina's. The coast of South Carolina was under mandatory evacuation and obviously our hotel cancelled on us. When I googled Hurricane Dorian the projected path came up on Google maps with my current location right in the middle of it. We ended up staying in Virginia Beach instead as it was on the way to DC and not too different then Myrtle Beach. The hotels there were overwhelmed as a lot of people decided to do the same as us. It didn't ruin the trip but it was a pretty wild experience that's pretty foreign to people from Toronto.

      Airwipe i’d prefer knowing in advance when a hurricane will strike and taking the precautions for it. unlike an earthquake where that strikes at any moment with little to no warning. even if it misses us we can donate the supplies we bought to others that are going to be/ were effected by the storm. most of the time they just curve away last second before it touches any part of florida. tornadoes can also happen but are unlikely and are typically weak. hurricanes are the only things we have to worry about. plus everyone pitches in to help one another before and after the hurricane. that’s just my opinion though.

      @Ty O'Banion We usually get one tornado alarm a year with a bad storm included, like no-one here takes tornado alarms not seriously if you hear the alarm it’s like this: get your stuff then go in the car to the relative’s house (we don’t have a tornado shelter) get in the basement and hope for the best. Weather usually isn’t bad, so alarms here are the highlight of the month. I know some places it isn’t, but for us it is.

    You're insane. I literally went to Disney about the same day as you, and I knew from what it looked like the days before, it wasn't going to hit Disney that hard, but then you, you madlad, went to the COAST. THE MOST UNSAFE PART OF FLORIDA, to see the hurricane up close. Holy Shit. (I know I say most dangerous but I know the Bahamas was hit way harder than where you were.)

      i live on the coast where he was. we didn't even get hardly any wind of course im talking dorian. irma kicked or damn ass!!!! 1 week with no electric, 4 days with no water, all the stores were empty. if you were lucky enough to get internet on ur cell. the local 711s would put out notice.... at 2pm 711 at tropical trail will open til the store is empty. shit. you would get to the 711 and by 1;15pm the line would be all the way around the buillding. i have seen and been thru at least 7 hurricanes and soom tropical storms that were worst then some hurricanes, but irma was a bitch!!!

    Great video as always Jake. As a native of the Cape area, I can tell you that the capsized boat has been there for quite some time. There's several of them around the bridges in that area.

    I was at Disney World and Epcot Center in 1991 or 92 as a kid. I bet a lot has changed. ;) Thank you for showing us, who are not affected by hurricanes, the intensity of them. 40 hours in a hurricane sounds horrible. We were meant to go the Bahamas at a day trip but for some reasons we didn't. I wish we had gone.

      The hurricane didn't really make landfall, it was just the outer edge. The sea looks even more scary when one does. A storm surge is no joke.

    My husband and I just went to Key West after going there for our honeymoon in 2013, and the amount of damage caused by the last (I believe 2017) hurricane was very sad and eerie to see. It looks like quite a few people just cut their losses and tried to move on, which was so sad to see all that devastation even two years later. Homes destroyed, businesses closed...just really sad

    Having experienced my first major hurricane when I was 3 years old, I've been studying, tracking and following these things ever since. Harvey was my most recent personal experience, and that was my ninth to be in. Dorian was a crazy storm that did some unprecedented things and will now be remembered as a historic hurricane. Florida was VERY lucky with this one, but the Bahamas was an epic disaster. I'm happy you and your crew were spared the brunt of it. When I saw your livestream video that day, I thought you were gonna be in for some serious stuff.
