Lmao 😂I’m watching this years later an I built this exact deadbolt an still have it. Never did run it lol been on the shelf for a long time. Love this color green deadbolt body.
I bought treal axle housings because I didn't know about the curries. I've got parts coming to build all vanquish internals in them. Super excited for when all the parts get here.
Awesome I've been thinking about doing this to my Scx10 but wasn't sure if and how it would work only because I haven't seen any videos on this so seeing your video really helps I hope that other manufacturers do this for their axles and set up I love the vanquish but a bit pricey but I know they will last a really long time
I know you said it is a lot more complicated to convert SCX10-1 to SCX10-2 axles with CMS, but it would be awesome if you could produce a video to do that conversion. I dont want to give up the 5 scale points of the CMS. Great video as usual!
I would do that but that's basically just pulling the part numbers from the SCX10-2 manual and buying the stock parts or any upgrade part you want along the way. I thought about doing both but when I looked at it that way, it seemed that it wouldn't be as helpful to many.
Really like the fact that someone has come up with the parts to do this type of conversion on a scx10 and be able to keep the axle mounted servo. The only problem I have is the fact that with the cost of all the parts to do this I might as well just go buy a new scx10.2.
Hi, for $351 you could buy a brand new scx10 2, instead of two axles. Not a very economic way to rc. But it's a great video, you really know these axials inside and out. 😀 👍 👍 👍
299$ + 300$ isn't the cost of an scx10ii lmao nice try Harley. That's a CRC JK scx10ii (the most expensive one) plus some Vanquish aluminum beadlocks and some proline or pitbull tires 😂😂.
Normally l enjoy all your videos, and thank you for them, you have saved me time and money with your wealth on information. The total out lay of what your showing is $............. would have been awesome! l added it up and was shocked to say the least. $650+ to me and 98% of everyday RC people, l think would agree is insane False economy! Ad to that a second hand truck, and it's a four figure headach, just like our NEW to us Deadbolt was a year ago. Our Deadbolt is In the four figure rang now (mostly because of the poor quality plastics/electronics etc.), and that's with stock axles. The few things that we have added by choice, like 120mm tyres and SSD steel beadlocks is a million times over, a better choice to improve the original SCX, and like you say when set up correctly no noticeably torque twist. Heck with a $650 budget you could buy the wheel and tyre package you really want, then go and buy a new budget friendly trail truck which would rule out an Axial. Just saying the bleeding obvious, but someone needs to point it out. Cheers
Is there a way to add some small pumpkin axels to a scx10 that would be inexpensive? I want a second truck for friends but would like you spend less than the $350 total price of a new scx10 ii kit or $409 rtr. I also want to keep the 45 degree steering. I don't mind the chassis mounted servo either. I'm new to this hobby about 1.5 months ago. I do love it though.
Sounds like finding a used stock SCX10-2 may be an option. Otherwise, you'll have to hunt down an original SCX, a set of SCX10-2 axles, then buy the front chassis pieces. A stock set of SCX10-2 axles is usually around $140. The rest of the parts could possibly be under $200 if you search. But if you just want stock stuff, buying used may be the best way.
Harley Designs I was hoping there a way to revive an old scx10 to similar to scx2 standards for not much money. It's a bit if a waste of all those old scx10s.
I don't like the position of the rear wheels at all. Looks wrong. What's the reason you wanted to pull the rear axle back? Leverage to put more pressure on the front? Does it give a lot more performance than keeping it stock, or is it a fitment choice? I mean is it not possible without moving it back? Looks like there's room.
+A Baker 71 a slightly longer wheelbase helps for steep climbs without sacrificing too much on turning. I ran this truck in competitions so I wanted to maximize performance.
Harley Designs I brought the scx10 ii because of ur build. I made a mistake and brought a bumper kit that didn't fit the scx10 ii.....so I brought the scx10.... Just to figure out later on the bumper kit did fit the scx10 ii....
+Mike Diffenderffer the link kit has to be built for SCX10-2 axles and the only link kit available for them is the 12.3. The VP 12.0 link kit is for the original axles.
Ok so I'm trying to do exactly this to my 10.1 except I already have the VP CMS bumper mount. Could I just install the 10.2 Curries like normal, or would I have to change things for it to work?
The VP CMS bumper mount will not put the steering link in the same position, and you also need to have a panhard mount as well. Once you have those two things, you may have to make two custom length links to make sure that everything lines up correctly.
@@HarleyDesignsInc I've got the panhard mount and everything. I did the CMS conversion a while back. I just recently switched from a SSD CMS to a Vanquish CMS
Will the scx10 axle shafts and everything else in the axle work in the scx10 ii axles? I have been thinking about chassis mounting my servo. Do I have to use the panhard set up?
+Anthony Redman if you want to go chassis mounted then you’ll need to buy a link set and a Vanquish Chassis amounted servo bracket with panhard mount. You’ll only use the chassis plate even though it comes with the axle side.
Yes if you replace everything then it will work. But it will require either a lot of parts or mixing a bunch of aftermarket parts in. I use a link kit in this video as well as an axle mounted servo.
hi there, over the last few days i've been watching as many of your deadbolt vids as i have time too. they are informative and good to watch. its great you outline the mods and how to do them, but it isn't really clear (to me) how they actually improve the performance. im trying to get more flex and stability out of my scx10 deadbolt. last night i saw your budget upgrade with the wraith parts and that should sort out my concerns with its cornering, but will the scx 10 ii upgrade give it more flex? just durability? cheers.
Adding flex isn't something I recommend at all. You do not want excessive flex, a general rule is to have about the same amount as the height of your tires.
Hi bud I'm planning on doing this to my deadbolt but wanted to use the Rockjocks and I was wondering if they make a truss for the axle mounted servo or do I have to convert it to CMS?
Allen Thomas to be fair ive had my stock tactic servo on my scx10ii for over a year now and it still runs great. And ive beat the s*** out of it and have submerged it too many times to count and it still runs. It's just one of those things that if it isn't broke don't fix it
Israel Cardona my comment was to the resentment tone of josh's voice and I feel the same. It's not a terrible rtr servo in a stock trail truck, it works. But for those who crave and demand performance, it's not for us.
think i'm going to trash my old SCX10. it works and runs , but it's a piece of shit , being the old gen version. same for my stampede 4x4 , that's been broke down now for the last 2 years . because i don't have money to do upgrades to it , or repairs. maybe later i will see about getting a new gen 2 scx10.
I have four or five sets of those clamps that Iv been reusing forever. There great
Awesome I've been thinking about doing this to my Scx10 but wasn't sure if and how it would work only because I haven't seen any videos on this so seeing your video really helps I hope that other manufacturers do this for their axles and set up I love the vanquish but a bit pricey but I know they will last a really long time
Are the servo clamps still in production or no ?
I know you said it is a lot more complicated to convert SCX10-1 to SCX10-2 axles with CMS, but it would be awesome if you could produce a video to do that conversion. I dont want to give up the 5 scale points of the CMS.

+99stangdude yes you could buy a new one, but then you'd have stock axles instead of built curries.
The deadbolt already has an axle mounted servo and the deadbolt II has a chassis mounted servo which I prefer just from other models.
Hi, for $351 you could buy a brand new scx10 2, instead of two axles.
Not a very economic way to rc.
But it's a great video, you really know these axials inside and out.
😀 👍 👍 👍
+Mikey mike yes you could buy a new one, but it would be a new one with stock axles rather than completely built Curries.
I'd wrather have two rigs to build on than some axles, but that's just me.
I can get a set of 44s what all would i need to do to put them on
Would it not be cheeper to just buy the scx10 2??
will all the og scx10 axle internals fit inside scx10 ii housings
When all the new Vanquish Products you just bought cost more than the whole budget project truck all together
+Israel Cardona yeah but now you have a truck that costs about the same as a stock SCX10-2 but with built Curries
Israel Cardona I tottay agree its cheeper just to buy the scx102 lol
Buy Scx10 ii and it will do just as good as any expensive upgrade. Your breakage will be cheaper too.
299$ + 300$ isn't the cost of an scx10ii lmao nice try Harley. That's a CRC JK scx10ii (the most expensive one) plus some Vanquish aluminum beadlocks and some proline or pitbull tires 😂😂.
what rock sliders are on there.
I own a scx10 deadbolt just wondering if it worth it to buy the under tray to add more water and mud protection?
vanquish ripper in the background?

good stuff josh, thanks for sharing.
Where can I find one of those sites selling scx10s
The older SCX10 models have all been discontinued now, the SCX10-II is the new replacement.
Harley Designs I brought the scx10 ii because of ur build. I made a mistake and brought a bumper kit that didn't fit the scx10 ii.....so I brought the scx10.... Just to figure out later on the bumper kit did fit the scx10 ii....
So use the incision link kit for scxv2 or the vp 12.3 for scx v1?
Nice mod for an older truck or new truck upgrade
So you have to run a 12.3 link wheelbase or can you just get the vp 12 link kit
+Mike Diffenderffer the link kit has to be built for SCX10-2 axles and the only link kit available for them is the 12.3. The VP 12.0 link kit is for the original axles.
Harley Designs is there any plans on make links for these for 12in wheelbase

Can I use the scx10.2 lower links for my scx10
The lengths are not the same. It would not give you the correct wheelbase and pinion angle.
Could I use a set of stock axles out off a scx10 ii in my scx10?
+Anthony Redman you will need to pickup a servo on axle mount. UCFab sells one that you can buy through Beeftubes website
Thanks for answering my questions. I'll check out that website. Great video

we want to see more of the bomber!!
Can't we just stick on SCX10 2 axles to an SCX10 chassis?
Nope. The links are not the same and there is no provision to mount the servo. You have to either convert to CMS or do an axle mounted servo.
I see. How about with the links (they seem to be available on the Axial website) and a CMS?
I'm surprised an axle swap kit doesn't exist yet.
Yes if you replace everything then it will work. But it will require either a lot of parts or mixing a bunch of aftermarket parts in. I use a link kit in this video as well as an axle mounted servo.
I guess at that point it might be too expensive to be worth it. Thanks for the answers and the videos nonetheless!
Do you recommend this axle or the rockjock for a scx10 ii
+Radiocontroled adventures it's just a style difference. Unless you want the servo on axle, which is only available for the F9 axle.
+Harley Designs oh ok I was just wondering if the pumpkin clearance was different
+Radiocontroled adventures they are basically identical.
+Harley Designs thanks
Will the servo mount work on the Rockjock?
This is super helpful!

thanks for the reply, does that mean that most of your mods are for reliability (accept chassis mounted servo) and controlabilty?
350 hubs?
+treadway47025 that’s correct
Hi bud I'm planning on doing this to my deadbolt but wanted to use the Rockjocks and I was wondering if they make a truss for the axle mounted servo or do I have to convert it to CMS?
There isn’t a servo on axle mount for the RockJocks.
Your the best! But a bit expensive!!!
The wheel base looks stupid now
yes you are 100% right the stock tactic servos make like 3000 oz inches of torque (laughing emoji)
haha all the power of tactic servo lol.
Allen Thomas it's a beast!
Mine just died on me today ;( even with ebay metal gear upgrade, electronics short :(
ferdis7 i recomend hitec 7955tg. pricey, but i've never had one fail.
Allen Thomas to be fair ive had my stock tactic servo on my scx10ii for over a year now and it still runs great. And ive beat the s*** out of it and have submerged it too many times to count and it still runs. It's just one of those things that if it isn't broke don't fix it

You decapitated the poor driver
Yeah I got shorted on the driver figure! I need to dig one out of my stash.
just another infomercial!
think i'm going to trash my old SCX10. it works and runs , but it's a piece of shit , being the old gen version. same for my stampede 4x4 , that's been broke down now for the last 2 years . because i don't have money to do upgrades to it , or repairs. maybe later i will see about getting a new gen 2 scx10.
I just want a skinnier scale axle for my scx10 any suggestions?
