The reason to use trick with the berserk gene instead of a stat boosting move in doubles would be to immediate attack and wipe out one or both of the opposing mons instead of having to wait a turn via setup moves that also risk the setup mon fainting. It would actually be very viable in competitive vgc assuming open team sheet wasn't a thing as you can immediately remove threats without your opponent's knowing what will happen.
For that to work though, ideally BOTH of your Pokemon would be faster than your opponent, so you can get the Trick off and start attacking right away. Plus your Trick Pokemon would have to be faster than your Berserk Gene Pokemon. I don't think it's *impossible* to make it work, but I do think 9 times out of 10 you'd rather use Swords Dance or Nasty Plot or what have you
@@MEPlaysGames Prankster is a thing for your Trick POKéMON. Prankster + Trick is a combo exclusive to Grimmsnarl, Sableye, Volbeat, and Illumise, in order of viability. At least Grimmsnarl would get something fun to do I guess.
The reason Berserk Gene is usually not curable is because there were no reliable means for blocking/curing confusion in link battles in gen 2. If you used the Berserk Gene during the story, then a Full Restore, you would be able to cure yourself that way. You can also cure yourself in a link battle if you Baton Pass another Pokémon’s confusion to a Berserk Gene holder. In that case the confusion will last the normal amount of turns instead of 256. It can be cured with the right circumstances, so I think it’s fair to draw the conclusion that Own Tempo would block the confusion too
@@MEPlaysGames Also baton passing the berserk boost into a Pokémon holding a bitter berry will also cure the super confusion. Done that a bunch of times in link battles with friends.
u could use trick between ur ally by an own tempo pokenib ir aby pokemon that can get rid of confusion and then have two pokemon with double the attack with one move or you can use trick get confused then take the item and switch it to another pokemon then you get ur opponent infinitely confused while u get 3 pokemon with plus 2 attack
if berserk gene wasnt a consumeable, this would work. now since were establishing berserk gene isnt a consumeable and instead activates on being held, then you can just use double berserk gene and double trick to effectively get three swords dances by turn 2 on both pokemon in doubles.
just use own tempo or tangled feet then. It wont be the most viable or unpredictable strategy, and would be extremely niche with alot of counter play, but it would be a decent strategy to pull on friends @@MEPlaysGames
Berserk Gene Tangled Feet anyone?
God that sounds annoying
let's not forget that confusion has been nerfed, nowadays you only have 1/3 chances of self-inflicting damage instead of 1/2.

I could have sworn that the data for this item was in HGSS, though only obtainable through Action Replay...
Berserk gene was supposed to not be able to be cured though, so the whole speculation about curing it makes no sense

The way i knew exactly what item this was before I even clicked on the video

No you can’t, the Berserk Gene is immediately consumed upon switching in, so it can’t be passed to another Pokemon with Trick

If both Pokemon on your side are holding a Berserk Gene, then nobody is holding a berry to cure the confusion, so that doesn’t work either
