DON'T Teach Your Pokemon These Moves

  • Most of the time, Pokemon synergize well with the moves they can learn. But that's not always the case, so today we're looking at even more of the worst synergies in Pokemon. Which move is Slaking unable to use effectively thanks to its ability Truant? Which Eeveelution should you avoid if you teach your Eevee Synchronoise? Do Matt and Elias know each other's middle names? What's Gengar's deal? All that and more today on MEPlaysGames.
Our first video about bad synergies: • Pokemon and Moves With...
Big Yellow's video about creative strategies, which is where we learned about Counter Gengar in gen 1: • Creative Strategies in...

Evil MEPlaysGames is taking the day off because we have a few notes on this video.
Like we said, Rising Voltage is pretty usable even if the user isn’t grounded, but I don’t think we made it very clear why it was included in the video. We brought it up primarily to compare and contrast it with Expanding Force. It’s not a terrible synergy on a Zapdos, but the moves share a lot in common. We wanted to untangle the differences in this video to show why Expanding Force is worse than Rising Voltage for flying and levitating Pokemon.
There is one Pokemon that used to be able to change genders, but it’s no longer possible. Azurill is 75% female, but its evolutions’ gender ratios are 50/50. Prior to gen 6, female Azurill had a 1 in 3 chance to become a male Marill, depending on its personality value. In any case, you’ve never been able to change a Pokemon’s gender without also changing its species
We did some more research while editing, and it turns out that Raygun being listed as the #1 breakdancer was in fact not rage bait. When it comes to World DanceSport Federation events, many breakdancers only take part in enough competitions to make it to the Olympics, and Raygun was one of those people. Last October, she competed in the Oceania championships and came in first. That was the only ranked event she participated in, giving her a score of 1,000 points. Olympic placements are not included in the rankings, so her last place finish in Paris didn’t affect her standing. There were also no ranked events in the 8 months leading up to the Olympics. So her placement has more to do with a faulty ranking system.

5:22 Sloths in real life are actually so slow that algae grows on them in a symbiotic relationship, and that could in theory allow them to gather sunlight in a magical Pokémon world.

    Fun fact about Synchronoise.
It can only hit 24 Evolutionary Families for super-effective damage
    These are
    - Mega Lopunny (And ONLY Mega Lopunny)
    - Pirouette Form Meloetta
    - The Stufful Line (Stufful + Bewear)
    - The Zubat Line (Zubat + Golbat + Crobat)
    - Hawlucha
    - The Tentacool Line (Tentacool + Tentacruel)
    - Qwilfish
    - Skrelp ONLY
    - The Mareanie Line
    - Poliwrath ONLY
    - Keldeo
    - The Salandit Line (Only if taught to Eevee that evolved into Flareon)
    - Combusken + Blaziken (Only if taught to Eevee that evolved into Flareon)
    - Monferno + Infernape (Only if taught to Eevee that evolved into Flareon)
    - Pignite + Emboar (Only if taught to Eevee that evolved into Flareon)
    - The Bulbasaur Line (Only if taught to Eevee that evolved into Leafeon)
    - The Oddish Line (Minus Bellossom) (Only if taught to Eevee that evolved into Leafeon)
    - The Bellsprout Line (Only if taught to Eevee that evolved into Leafeon)
    - The Budew Line (Only if taught to Eevee that evolved into Leafeon)
    - The Foongus Line (Only if taught to Eevee that evolved into Leafeon)
    - Breloom ONLY (Only if taught to Eevee that evolved into Leafeon)
    - Virizion (Only if taught to Eevee that evolved into Leafeon)
    - Chesnaught ONLY (Only if taught to Eevee that evolved into Leafeon)
    - Crabominable ONLY (Only if taught to Eevee that evolved into Glaceon)
13 of these families are only able to be hit with it super-effectively if a specific Eeveelution decides to run it, and only Glaceon has a Special Attack stat over 100 out of those three, with Leafeon's being only 60.
If Synchronoise wasn't removed in Gen 8, the following families would also be weak to it
    - Rapid-Style Urshifu
    - Quaquaval ONLY
    - Pawmo + Pawmot (Only if taught to Eevee that evolved into Jolteon)
    - Flamigo
    - Iron Hands (Only if taught to Eevee that evolved into Jolteon)
    - Iron Valiant
    - Galarian Weezing
    - Fezandipiti
    - Iron Moth (Only if taught to Eevee that evolved into Flareon)
    - The Shroodle Line
    - The Toxel Line (Only if taught to Eevee that evolved into Jolteon)
    - Galarian Zapdos
    - Blaze Breed and Aqua Breed Paldean Tauros (Blaze Breed only if taught to Eevee that evolved into Flareon)
Bringing the total up to 37
And to be honest, I *WISH* they kept it in the game, maybe Urshifu wouldn't be so overpowered if that was the case. Have a Water Type on the field that hits it with a 120 power psychic type move would be amazing.

    Ah rising voltage.
I had a fun memory in gen 8. My electric resist was out of play, and my opponent looked ready to sweep with electric terrain up and his specs Rising Voltage Regieleki in.
No hazards were on my side of the field, so my opponent was praying I didn't have a focus sash.
I told him I did not.
Then I bring in my Air Balloon Victini. Which proceeded to Trick Room and sweep in the sun with V-Create.

Did you know that Staraptor fell from UUBL in Gen VII all the way to NU in Gen IX, skipping Gen VIII due to dexit?
    And, as an addendum, Staraptor isn’t even doing all that great in NU either ;-;

Dudes, Staraptor was my guy in Platinum. They were everyone's guy. They made the perfect regional bird and then everything after couldn't live up to it until Corviknight.
Also, both of those birds can learn Rest, which is of course a joke because they also get Roost, which they would prefer most of the time despite Rest healing more. But I mean Rest is a near-universal TM so that's not saying much. I dunno, I'm sure someone out there has made Chesto Resto Staraptor at some point.

I liked using Staraptor in Singles with Reckless and just trying to immediately break the other team's lead with Brave Bird and Double-Edge and Close Combat for coverage and then Quick Attack for some final damage if I knew I'd be outsped, but it never really worked :D

Though Counter lost the normal/fighting quirk in gen 2, it's worth noting that before gen 4 all Hidden Power types are physical because the move is treated as normal type for the purposes of Counter. This means you could use Gengar's Counter even if it was hit by Hidden Power of a special attacking type like ice or grass. That also means you can't try using Mirror Coat against it, which could lead to some similarly bad use cases. Don't get caught slipping!
