onafixedincome I’m in the US but claims will usually have claim markers if the people take care of and mark there claims correctly. If they don’t then it’s almost impossible to know unless you go to the BLM bureau of land management or the office of parks and recreation....that is how it basically works in the US. I’m sure Canada is similar but I don’t know all there offices there. I hope this helps a little if your in Canada and helps a lot if you are in the US👍
Dan! What awesome videos you make bro. I've have gone from never thinking twice about gold prospecting to becoming fascinated by your videos!! I live in Ohio so I doubt there's any gold around here but I love your wholesome, fun and informative videos
That site is known as Pine park and was at one time the piggery for the Tranquille TB hospital and community. It is now the site used by the Kamloops school district for school children to release Coho salmon fry and learn about the history of the area. Exactly where you were digging is where the children go down to release the salmon they have been raising in tanks in their classrooms from eggs. After more than 120 years legend has it that the mother load in the hills of Tranquille has yet to be found.
You , Klesh, and Pauly should do a contest where a subscriber of all 3 of you can win a trip to go prospecting with you guys. Setup the same way as when you and Pauly did that gold give away. Just an idea that I think would be pretty awesome.
I have to say this is my favorite video of gold panning. Gives me the inspiration to get out and pan here locally. My health has never been the best and I love outdoors stuff. I have Cystic Fibrosis and very old for the illness 66. Yet due to these type of things I do get out. I have survived a double lung transplant 22 yrs ago. Kidney Transplant 13 but having some kidney trouble again now not so bad I won't get out. I'm also a cancer survivor. I'm an insurance companies nightmare. Great job Dan I watch a lot of youtube channels on gold and metal detecting. Thanks for what you do.
Jeff, check out Drag Race For a Cure, its a Drag race put on yearly here in Florida. Its at Palm Beach International Raceway this year. My friend David Pike has put the race on for 4 years now. 100% of ALL monies made goes to help finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis! He even helps people that needs machines, breathing stuff etc....
Thank you for showing the newbies what to do. I’ve been prospecting for many years but I don’t think enough UA-camrs show the basics. There are MANY PEOPLE who want to do this but don’t know even the first step. Thank you for having such a nice, family friendly channel Dan👍😊
I’ve never tried panning for anything and I didn’t know I was interested in prospecting lol but I’m thoroughly enjoying living vicariously through people like you, Klesh and Pauly. Keep up the good work brotha!
I love the recreational panning areas. The Quesnel-Fraser area is what got me hooked on prospecting. Now I'm in the process of surveying and searching my first claim!
Proud to say I was the first one who arrived to your spot on Sunday, the day after you were there. Too bad you found all the good stuff. I'm sure that area is going to be a hot spot for the next few weeks. Thanks for posting Dan! I usually go a few times a month to Tranquille since it's only 20 minute drive for me. Love that place!
“Let’s hope the second hour is better than that!!??” Are you serious!!??? I would be dancing on the clouds if I found that much gold in my area!! Jeez!! You don’t know how blessed you are sir! 😮 Thank you for making such an entertaining video btw. I enjoy all the teaching you do for everyone. We are all blessed that way. Thank you 🙏🏻
I like your style ! Good acting ! dramatic, funny... but basically very informational and honest ! You got me hooked... Just like you say many times ... it's not how much gold... it's the fun you have getting it and meanwhile, you make us have fun too... watching you have it !! KUDOS... I'll be watching !!!
Nice stuff Dan. I used to pan at a "public area" near San Bernardino on Swarthout Canyon Road (on old route 66). ALWAYS found a few pieces of color EVERY TIME. Never much to speak of but always reliable.
We have a public prospecting place about 50 miles from me and I love it one guy found a .5 or 1 oz of fine gold in a few hours of prospecting it a good place for fine gold and it has gpoa claim right next to it so its a lot of fun thanks for sharing your experience Dan
Another great video Dan! I really appreciate all you do to promote the hobby. I’ll have to make it out to the Tranquille soon - looks like a great place to pan!
Took my Dad to Mission Creek in Kelowna to teach him to pan a few days ago. Its a public area that you can pan. We parked in the public area along the Greenway walking/biking trail at the end of Hollywood Rd. South. Walked along the trail until we crossed the first bridge and panned the gravels on the inside bend just upstrean from the bridge. Found a few colours in every pan. Apparently the gold is a bit better further up river, just be sure not to pan on the Indian Reserve land further up without permission. I think I'll try Tranquille this week, thanks for the tip Dan!
Spent a lovely two days on the Tranquille last November. Had to chip though the ice to access water lol. The first day I did not find much. On the second day a local guy helped me find a spot that worked out pretty well. It was cold, but the gold much bigger than I find here in Edmonton! A really beautiful location.
Was waiting for this vid! below the Pine park area that is along the path and just about anywhere on Tranquille river in the provincial park is awesome for panning gold! and other little gems if you are lucky..As for nugget stories i'm keeping my lips zipped..great vid!
WOW I went to Yale yesterday, I had multiple colors in every pan as well (fly poop) with a few tiny flakes, nothing as good as what you got. Thanks for your efforts, us newbies learn a lot from you.
We stopped at Truckee, and a nice ranger there told us of a nugget he found which was being displayed there. It was really big, easily golf ball sized! He said it was a free pan area, but it was 103 degrees and we wanted to find shade! There are also several places near Los Angeles where you can pan.
Dan you are definitely in my top 2 favorite gold miners on UA-cam, love your videos, an your humor. Keep up the great work, an awesome VIDEOS you make. You really deserve so many more subs on your channel. Have a great week brother
80years old learning a lot from you my wife passed away in 2019 and I needed some thing to do I metal detecting so I tried panning doing good my son got me four bags of katar love to get some of yours
On the vertical gold hog sluice, I think a second tote below the first and a small shute to transfer The water from first tote to second remove bucket put pump in second tote would work much better only my opinion I enjoy watching your videos very informative thanks
Excellent video Dan Hurd, I think its a great idea actually showing where others can go on PUBLIC land. Some folks wont like that but you can not help what "some folks," think. Did that half a gram help you break even on the bug dope purchase ; D
The recreational (pay to pan) gold panning places around here are salted gold, in other words, it has gold placed into the streams, usually low grade gold from old jewelry. You can tell by the color of the gold.
Just moved to Tennessee and I'm going to be getting down to the Coker Creek area sometime in the next few weeks. I will let you know how it goes. Thank you for everything you do and for the education on gold panning that you have given me along with Polly, Clash, vogus, and busted knuckles
Just about all our rivers in Tasmania is open to the public to prospect . I have Sniped on the Hellyer river for 30 years and haven't had to change to another river it's always produced great gold our biggest nugget we have got from the river is 28g HH Brad
Any day of the week I would be happy to look in my pan and see as much gold as you said "wasnt much" Would love to see you work about where I go prospecting, Im sure I would learn lots. another nice video even on my 2nd watch
We here in So Calif, we have a Recreational Mining Area, in Keyesville ,ca [Kern County on the Lower Kern River.. great camping area.. ive found bunch of flypoo small gold stuff last couple times.. but the water was in [full Sierra Mtns snow melt..absolute roaring] 3 kids fell in and 2 of them died. Not sure if they ever found them.. really sad!. So im waiting for the summer camping crowds to go home, and the water levels to drop.. Should be by now! And try some SAFE snipping n Panning ect 😉!!!. You have some awesome rivers up there! with killer gold!. great video as always....
Dan thanks for the panning trip. If I can google this park. I will add it to my bucket list. I just want to try my luck. Your help is very well appreciated. Best of luck. Keep panning.
Great video man! Great info too! Two of my favorite rec areas here in Oregon are the Quartzville creek district and Cedar Grove Campground on the Mollala River. Both are BLM run and there is incredible gold on both sites!
Fantastic video as always Dan.. Thank you for the time and energy you put in into making these wonderful videos, Happy Panning and may you find a Huuuge nugget!
I live in the quartzville area in Oregon, we have miles and miles of public access panning sites. I've never found great gold, and seems to be more of a guys trip for my friends and I. But we do have a great time.
actually you can pan anywhere on the river that is crown land even on someone's claim, but you aren't allowed to use machinery and sluices unless you own the claim.
Up here in Keweenaw Peninsula Michigan we are allowed to pan on Lake Superior. All one will find is the smallest of flour gold. You are allowed to pan, a quarter once per year. In most places it would take you a year. Most people pan the black sand. I treat it like a creek and look for bedrock or slate. The gold will deposit there over the years. In the black sand the gold can be washed away during a storm. Really enjoyed your video and the nice gold that you recovered. Thanks Dan.
Panned the reserve on the goat river at Creston about 10 years ago. Would love to go back now that I know more. Drove north of Revelstoke about 8 years ago to try the panning reserve on the Goldstream River. Didn’t dip the pan in as it was a very intimidating area and directions to get there or find it were horrible. Beautiful drive and ended up going all the way to the Mica dam and picked some rocks😃. The Wildhorse reserve was fun. Did that 3 years ago. Did find some decent gold and met some great people👍🏽😃 keep at er Dan. Love your vids
Same happened to me with Revelstoke, they say it is great gold there, but was impossible to get on the water. Have you been there Dan Herd ? Any tips ??
if you're getting bothered by midges try Avon Skin so Soft Moisturiser (weird I know but it works!). Royal Marines use it over here on the west coast of Scotland when on guard duty! There's something in it that makes the little biters leave you well alone! :)
@@scottbennett6494 I've never come across it presonally but you can find extracted cranberry seed oil online or high concentration extracts. See if you can find anything suitable for your area via google. Not sure where you are in the world! :)
In the US you are allowed to prospect in most areas outside of existing claims. Most of this activity would take place on US Forest Service land. In the state of Washington the Dept of Fish and Wildlife have a pamphlet that spells out where on a creek or river, what equipment you can use, and what time of year you can prospect. Some places are 6 months a year, some places are two weeks depending on the spawning density of certain ocean going fish. There is a mining law(prospecting would be a better term) still on the books to protect this right although states are allowed to impose additional regulations. The Forest Service will go to certain lengths to discourage you.
I didn't realize I could even pan for gold in Canada, let alone have areas set aside. I'm not sure the dollar value you had there Dan, but I've wanted to try panning anyway. Now that I know they have "claim" zones set aside, I'll pick some equipment up and try it while we have the nice weather here in Ontario.....Any suggestions in the next video for equipment you would recommend would be great.....Thanks Dan!!!
Hey Dan. Like I said in another video. When I was a kid back in the early eighties there was little hut like sleeping structures, almost like a mini cabin. People use to camp there. After a number of years, when a different element hit Kamloops, they were spray painted, and vandalized, and eventually taken down. Back in those days it was way more remote. You didn’t have the volumes of people going there. In the rock quarry you could find huge Agates. This was before they stated levelling it out for the gravel for the roads. As kids we ride our bikes out there from Brockelhurst. It was a magic time! Before it became popular, and the internet could tell you where to go to find rocks. Back then, like you know, that one was only in books, and they were limited!
Marshland insect repellent by Clark & Co. out of S E Texas makes an outstanding product. I believe they're out of Port Arthur, Tx and fairly certain they ship to Canada, I highly recommend their product .
Mr. Dan thanks for traipsing through the mosquito vortex to show us that all things are possible! If I was there, would be grinning ear to ear, thanks for sharing the shiny stuff of nature!!
Hi Dan , we've had some great days panning Tranquil cr , don't forget bug spray . Walked into a large male cougar one time , about 30 ft from me by the beaver dam almost soiled Myself.
I used to live in Kamloops and I have panned that stream. Then I moved back to Manitoba. Can't pan here as far as I know. Might have to go back on vacation.
I really love the sniffer lanyard case. Do you make those yourself? Or how can I get one or make one? Love watching uh and your friends. I've learned a great deal. Thank you
Most of the gold was taken by the Romans anyway. Still, that feeling that you get when you see some colour in the pan is amazing. That gold that you got in 2 and a bit hours is what you could normally expect after a month of panning in Scotland
Awesome video! Always cool to see some local spots in videos like there. That old bathroom/gazebo/playground that you were at was the place I would go as a kid in my school to release the salmon we would keep! It was a yearly thing and we would have lunch and games and stuff, good times for sure! I believe besides that it doubled as a hatchery location or something although I’m not super certain. Excited to see more stuff like this in the future!
I'm from Alaska in a common town and from what I saw when one of my buddies and I hit the public creeks, there's pits everywhere and no real gold to be had without a claim. I hear the town called Hope has good gold still in its valley. But I'm pretty sure that's all claimed land
Checked out the Yale panning reserve on Saturday for about an hour. Got quite a few chunks of fly poop but that was it. If I would have had more time I am sure we could have found more than we did. But a nice relaxing spot to pan and enjoy the Fraser river.
One of my favorite places to look for gold was a little creek just north of Trinity Lake , Laura Ingall Lake. it was called snow gulch .there are lots of Mines above it and in the old days they used to pour a lot of Mercury. All the gold we found there was mercury gold when you get to the bottom of a crevasse it would be a long line of silver shimmery Mercury and it was full of small pieces and fine gold. you hike to the top of the mountain and there are still ore cars and an old hydro cannon.
An anti-mosquito tip I picked up from an Alaskan biker: cover yourself with Avon Skin So Soft. Apparently it works miles better than regular bug spray. They also have a "Bug Guard" variant.
here (califronia) you find a creek stream no claim give it a shot if it has gold good to go I have sampled all over the place and depending on the yield (how much gold) is if you go back or not there is a lot of open land all over the place I have even seen old claim signs (abandoned) you can see the sign has been there for years all rusty and beat up
@@Danhurd there is a general place called the east fork san gabriel river where everyone goes to to pan hoards of people all looking for the same flakes of gold that's why I go where ever other than the east fork I have been there it's the fever that draws you there (gold fever) you have this disease
a good couple of hours for you dan !! i really enjoy your videos for your prospecting and for the scenery beautiful!!!don;t think there is gold in my country for if there were i'd be one of you and looking for guidance lol x
Yea that’s true around here Greensbor. I have found a little around my house in Brownsummit but it’s very little. I have to go to gold mines that you have to pay to pan and it is still very ligand if you pan all day you might get a gram if you’re lucky.
Thank you, I will have to use recreational gold panning however; I can convert to exploration claims and have demo exploration gold as well with proximity with bike and foot to Vancouver
Hi. Last year I watched a ton of your videos and they inspired me try out panning as an activity I could enjoy with my boys. We went to the exact same place as you show in your video. Kinda weird to see a big time celebrity like you 😀 go to the same place. Anyways, 10/10 would highly recommend this gold panning reserve for families. Bring food for a picnic at the table under the gazebo. Short hike for kids of any age. Maybe 1km. Go in the spring to avoid the bugs. Thanks Dan. Your videos are more than just entertainment. They inspire others too.
I grew up in the mountains around Redding California we would trap in the winter and run a dredge in the summer .we never got rich but we found some nice gold. My uncle did hit a 30 Oz pocket on the Tuolumne River mid-70s that was pretty cool. Coarsegold was only a couple hundred bucks back then:-)
I have been to the Quesnel forks free panning area. There were so many people out there even at an odd hour on an off day it was crazy. At one point I could see three or four people metal detecting in a small area. We played around for a few hours and found around three or four cents of gold. Just downstream there is a lot of fine gold but I get the impression the easily accessed public areas with good deposition are looted quickly each season. Also there is a very dangerous logging road to access the area. If it is muddy, use exercise extreme caution because the loggers take up the whole road and he isn't backing up - you are. Nice little historic spot though.
Dan they use to make a electronic mosizque repeller and they work reslly well. Also i love in Missouri and i understand that yhere placer gold on the Missouri river and the Plat river but it is called flour gold and tgere id a state park tgat akso allows penning for gold tpo
Remember this tip for mosquitos: Use any spray repellent, with Muskol - I think I use Off, in a smaller pump spray with green printing. Don't spray it on you - spray it into your hand and rub it onto your clothing and any exposed skin. Mosquitos will land on any area that doesn't have Muskol on it, otherwise, they'll leave you alone.
I'm thinking about a trip down to Lineville Alabama, I haven't been there before, but it is supposed to still have some fine gold. They have cabin rentals and a store to buy or rent equipment. Not exactly roughing it lol, but I'm getting old.
Beautiful video Dan. My old stomping grounds. Just for info sake, you pronounce Tranquille with a short O sound, like tronquille . Have a wonderful day.

Dan, if you're walking along a river or whereever and feel the need to dip a pan, what do you look for to know that a place is claimed?
Our best public pan/shovel place in AZ is called Lynx Creek near Prescott. Never been skunked there.

peppermint and tee tree essential oil works also
@@scottbennett6494 Have to be REALLY careful with tea tree oil round pets though. It's highly toxic to cats and dogs!
@@Wortnik do you know if cranberry is available in oil form or do i need to look for the extract
I have been to Yale 2 times. lots and lots of flour gold! Using the super sluice is awesome!
Thanks for taking the time to watch
Hi Dan , we've had some great days panning Tranquil cr , don't forget bug spray . Walked into a large male cougar one time , about 30 ft from me by the beaver dam almost soiled Myself.
I used to live in Kamloops and I have panned that stream. Then I moved back to Manitoba. Can't pan here as far as I know. Might have to go back on vacation.
I really love the sniffer lanyard case. Do you make those yourself? Or how can I get one or make one? Love watching uh and your friends. I've learned a great deal. Thank you
Nowhere in England/Wales can you legally pan for gold. In Scotland you need the land owners permission and usually a fee
Really? That's awful
But a nice relaxing spot to pan and enjoy the Fraser river.
my very first speck of fly poop came from such a place. open to all. Maine. great place gold to find!
Always fun, always informational. Thanks, Dan!
Thanks for watching
I tried my luck in Princeton a couple weeks ago got skunked. Might have to try Tranquil River next trip to BC.
Why is this panning reserve not listed on the provincial govt. website with all the other panning reserves?
Hi Dan, my first experience was in Yukon at claim 66, didn't know what i was doing then, but now i know more., may go back HA,
Cool video and great subject. I have wondered about public panning locations here in Colorado too. I may check it out. Peace.
An anti-mosquito tip I picked up from an Alaskan biker: cover yourself with Avon Skin So Soft. Apparently it works miles better than regular bug spray. They also have a "Bug Guard" variant.
here (califronia) you find a creek stream no claim give it a shot if it has gold good to go I have sampled all over the place and depending on the yield (how much gold) is if you go back or not there is a lot of open land all over the place I have even seen old claim signs (abandoned) you can see the sign has been there for years all rusty and beat up
Nice!
@@Danhurd there is a general place called the east fork san gabriel river where everyone goes to to pan hoards of people all looking for the same flakes of gold that's why I go where ever other than the east fork I have been there it's the fever that draws you there (gold fever) you have this disease
I've got some friends moving to Kamloops, I have a feeling I'll go for a visit sometime and check this area out for sure!
Your my hero! Thank you so much for keeping the dream alive!
a good couple of hours for you dan !! i really enjoy your videos for your prospecting and for the scenery beautiful!!!don;t think there is gold in my country for if there were i'd be one of you and looking for guidance lol x
Good video Dan. Wish I had that kind of options around Nashville.
That was an old camp ground. I use to rent it for my kids to camp on a weekend. Use to have 3 small makeshift cabins and a nice playground.
Your 1h snuffer is better than my 2 days sluicing 😂😂 I need to move to Canada 😂
Nice work !
This is the video I was waiting for!!! I live in Quesnel BC! Great job as always Dan!
Thanks
There is public panning in Quesnel!
Maureen Aastrom good to know! I will look that up!
pan and shovel, would that allow a screen for the big rocks? do they allow you to remove concentrate in buckets to your home? That was an awesome pan!
Dan *pulls out 2/3 of a gram in 2 hours*- meh
Me *pulls out 1/4 gram in 4 hours* - YEET.
Wow. Better than not tea bag. It's a world where no one has ever been tea bagged. Thanks for sharing Dan, you lucky duck.
So wish I could find even a quarter of that around were I live great video and change of video
Thanks
That’s not bad for 2 1/2 hrs North Carolina is a little different in most places you might get that amount in a day. Good video 🧐
Assuming you can find a place to go in NC. I'm outside Charlotte and haven't found a single area I can go to without being run off.
Keep up the good work Dan. I enjoy watching you,Pauly, klesh and 911 videos
We'll be going on a gold hunting vacation to Colorado or Oregon this summer. Free claiming we will go.
Another great video Dan, you keep on searching for the elusive golden nugget and enjoy the hunt 👍🤠
Thanks
I love your videos they are very entertaining and informative!! Thank you for posting
You are a great educator my friend
Keep on panning 😊😊
Thanks
Thanks for the wonderful videos Dan
Oh wow.i went to same place by that park and found some gold too. Beautiful area.
Dan there is a plsce in Wisconsin called nugget lake they had a meator impact that has caused diamonds plus coid and garnets something to check out
Beautiful video Dan. My old stomping grounds. Just for info sake, you pronounce Tranquille with a short O sound, like tronquille . Have a wonderful day.
