I started learning impressions in 2012, at the age of 20. You can follow my full impressions journey in my new ‘How to do impressions’ tutorial series
After graduating from the University of Warwick in the summer 2013 he took 4 months out to concentrate on UA-cam videos full time, including producing his most viewed video to date ‘Morgan Freeman and 40 other impressions’ with just over 12 million views. This foray into being a ‘full time UA-camr’ was cut short as he went travelling for 3 months before starting a 2 year teaching Graduate scheme with Charity ‘Teach First’.
While teaching he has performed in and narrated the 4 episode series ‘Lookalikes’ as Morgan Freeman. The show and the narration received a positive reception. The show aired on Channel 4 during the prime time slot of Friday 10pm for three weeks. It is now currently available on Netflix. Charlie also performed with other well known impressionists for an unaired pilot.
Charlie has worked for several prominent brands in relation to their products, including google and formula 1.
Since the summer of 2016 Charlie has once again dived into the world of UA-cam, for the first time producing content on a weekly basis. He is also focusing on live performance; he has performed in live venues a total of 3 times to date.
His top impressions include:
Morgan Freeman (Red -Shawshank redemption)
Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf - Lord of the Rings)
Aaron Paul (Jesse Pinkman - Breaking Bad)
Alan Rickman (Snape - Harry Potter)
Michael Caine (Alfred - Batman)
Jon Snow (Game of Thrones)
Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Carribean)
Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained, Inglorious bastards)
Alec Guiness (Ben Kenobi - Star Wars)
Agent Smith (The Matrix)
Sean Bean (Boromir - Lord of the Rings)
Richard Armitage (Thorin Oakenshield - The Hobbit)
Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister - Game of Thrones)
Tyrion Lannister (Game of Thrones)

gonna check out you patron soon for sure. can't keep track of where you stand right now but I cant wait for spicy Thorin to be all moody for the watch party of the hobbit if that happens.
@@NerdPirateRadio Yep, it's a way off but spicy he will be!
Been waiting months for this, quick grab the cheesy whatsits and don’t mention Isildur it’s time for Wizard Chillin.
Subbed with love❤️
We can all relate to Gandalf justifying his procrastination by saying he chased his hat around a field for 4 minutes.
I was actually going to procrastinate at this point, but I figured I could always procrastinate later.
@@wolfshanze5980Took me 4 months to get to this even.
Gandalf being an expert on potatoes after talking about being in a library for 17 years makes so much sense
He spent the time training moths to bring him the eagles. It took him so long because he kept making the room brighter and distracting the moths with the light. #LOTRRISETOWAR
Thorin sneaking in whenever the hobbit is mentioned is my favorite part 😂
Yes! As much as I love Qui Gon, Obi Wan, and Anakin, Gandalf and the boys are still my favorite.
" I'm not in charge of what the Eagles will and won't agree to help with. They make there own decisions, it turns out they like pranks." 🤣
Seventeen years. Five years to read it all. Six years to ̶r̶o̶b̶ help them. Six years to drink it all and, on the morrow, Hobbiton.
I love how Boromir has a blanket on his lap and comes across as a sensitive and kind hearted guy who like Harry Potter.
During his 17 year absence, Gandalf formed the beat combo 'Bombadil's Bong' and toured Middle Earth on the back of smash hits like Gondor on My Mind, Entwash Delta Blues, Umbar Girls and Last Cart to Tuckborough. #LotrRiseToWar
Not the world's most tech-savvy bloke. Hope this reaches you. Happy Christmas.
That's so funny.
Long story short, Gandalf suspected that the ring that Bilbo had passed down was a greater ring of power, not the minor ring he had thought of for years. This is partly due to Bilbo's lack of aging, but also his odd behaviour at his home after the party.
Gandalf spent the next 17 years researching the various rings of power, enlisting aid in tracking Gollum (From Strider), and checking on Frodo (and the entire Shire in general) every now and again, checking his rate of aging and his mental state.
He spent several years trying to find Gollum, when he couldnt, he went to Minas Tirith to research the ring. There he learned that fire could reveal the secret inscription IF it was the one ring. As he was on his way back to the shire to check on Frodo, after nearly 9 years since he last visit, he got word that Strider had found Gollum. This is when he found out what Gollum had told Sauron, as well as how old Gollum was, and where he found the ring - the Anduin river, not far from where Isildur was slain. This all but confirmed his worst fear, that it was indeed the one ring. He rushed immediately to confirm it by throwing it into fire. #lotrrisetowar
Not really he knew the other rings were accounted for. He was clearly training moths and chasing his hat round a field 👌
Imagine if he had just put the ring into a fire in the first place!
I mentioned this in a different comment, but it wasn't 50 years between Isildur losing The Ring and it being found by Bilbo, it was 2500. So Gandalf probably didn't know about that test.

I loved Yung Elrond and his "Gandalf Man of Action" speech. You've got Elrond's patterns down pat and for Elrond that's a long speech!!! Just admirable CH.
Didn't realize how much I missed these characters... Are you aware that Peter Jackson mentioned your channel at some zoom get together thing? It was right after Sir Ian quoted "Gandalf... Yes, that is what they used to call me: Gandalf the Gay"
Ah pure gold! Great having these three back on the couch revving each other, especially Boromir’s diagnosis skills and the revelation of his home address of Numenor 😂
"Oh, and they were all the same ring, by the way"... LOL
Could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain in that 17 years, Gandalf had a stab at acting. Starting out on stage, before being cast as Magneto in the X-Men franchise. After many years of success, he finally returned to the Shire to prove the fame hadn't gone to his head. #LOTRRISETOWAR
Ugh terrible joke. For a start casting & principal photography for X-Men took place before The Lord of the Rings, with the film itself being released a year and a half before fellowship. He WAS in Dance of Death though, you could make a much better joke out of that
Denethor set it up so technically I reside in Numenour 😂. Fuckin genius, I've said it before but this is the best comedy show since The Mighty Boosh. Can't believe you haven't had a TV deal!
To credit Gandalf's magic skills, he can also sometimes open and close doors, sometimes.
The groaning of the roof beams in bilbo's house when gandalf got serious was awesome.

I just love how it's always felt like the 17 year gap was there just to let Frodo "enjoy" his inheritance for a little while instead of the harsh reality that he was very likely sent on the quest almost immediately after Bilbo left.
What's better then seeing this before? Seeing it again once more!
Gandalf getting roasted this whole episode is the best 😂
Gandalf and the boys are back! Lets go!! Quality content as always Charlie 👌
According to the films, Gandalf was looking for information pertaining to Isildur's ring to see if it matched Bilbo's.
But I like the thought that he went out of his way for an amazon package.
Gandalf was seeking information about Gollum; tracking his movements, investigating his crimes, (including child cannibalism) and getting Aragorn's help in tracking him down. Finally, Aragorn found him and they interrogated him for all he knew and then dropped him off with the elves in Mirkwood. #LOTRRISETOWAR
And then he escaped. Honestly, the elves in Mirkwood should really look into the security of their prison. Every important character alwaysa find a way to escape and run off while they are incapable to track him down... very sloppy security.
@giacomoromano8842 he had climbed into a tree and his elf guards had no mind to go after him. Then a company of orcs attacked and gollum got away in the confusion. Your point is still valid.
Neither side thought to go after the one thing that would give them intel? Honestly, why fight when the common enemy is right there?

I love this channel. Just found it today. I am a HUGE LOTR fan. And this just makes everything so much better..
Gandi folded frodoes blanket and Frodo just snatched it lol
Poor Thorin! 🤣 Gandalf didn't cherish their journey.
"I can't believe he thought that would work, I'm a bloomin Maia!" Oh man that killed me.
I wonder how different things would have been if Gandalf would have spent just a year in Gondor, returned to the Shire and sent Frodo with the ring right away. They could have started and finished their journey before the war of the ring even started, before Barad-Dur was even finished, before the Ringwraiths would have been sent out, and before Gollum would have been released
would have been the length of the hobbit (Book)
And would still have been made into 3 movies@@CharlieHopkinson
I mean, yeah, and if they'd had tanks they'd have won battles easier, but that's not the story, is it? The reason so much time passed is because all travel was by foot or horseback, and to give opportunity to explain the plot without infodumping. Tolkien was an actual professor of writing. Everything in lotr is on purpose.
Gandalf knows how to make life harder
And the Eagles STILL wouldn't have just dropped the ring into Mt Doom.
In the 17 years between Minas Tirith and returning to Hobbiton, Gandalf used his own magic ring to pop over to Hogwarts and beleaguer and harass the quiddich games with his own special cursed bludgers. He was having such a ruddy good time that he almost forgot about Frodo. So he popped back in the nick of it and ran up the walk, which is why he looked so bedraggled and out of breath when Frodo answered the door
I know I may be too late but I just had to post this lol
Interesting fact, when Vigo kicked that helmet he broke the record for the furthest anyone has ever kicked a weta workshop prop uruk hai helmet!
Gandalf’s response to only having one joke…. 2:24… that was a proper LOL. 😂😂

“Do not take me for some conjuror of cheap tricks.”
After conjuring a cheap trick 😂😂😂
He captured and interrogated gollum with striders help then gave him to the elves. #LOTRRISETOWAR
LMAOO the conjurer of cheap tricks joke!
#lotrrisetowar Gandalf during his 17 years played matchmaker for single men. His best match was for Beorn who went on to have a son Grimbeorn. Probably had his father's disposition with a name like that.
Sam telling us about Gandalf's 1st suggestion was the best I laughed so hard
"I"ve thought of a better use for you and then he looked.at Mr Frodo all hungry like, and said Mr Frodo let's eat him and Mr Frodo had to beg him not to do it.
This is so good. I love it.
I actually proper lol'd a few times. Gandalf doing Boromir's voice was FAF.
Actually, the inheritance tax might have been why Bilbo took the mithril shirt to Rivendell. The Ring may not have been evaluated, but we know that shiny bit o’ garb was worth more than the value of the Shire. The tax on that would have been astronomical. (Granted, Bilbo may have kept that and Sting because he was going on a semi-dangerous trip and it’s wise to have some protection…but both can be true!) By giving it to Frodo secretly out of state, I think Bilbo was trying to stick it to the man.
#LOTRRISETOWAR
Gandalf rode to Minas Tirith to research the journey of the ring and Isuldurs account then he met Aragorn in Mirkwood whom had captured Gollum and interrogated him about his account of the ring.
Keep up the great work Charlie!

Oh yes, he was talking to Tom Bombidil...bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow.😅
There's something about Elrond's knowing smile about partying that is just wonderously enlightening.
"Never after Old Tobey, or...was it before?"

I love the way the hand behind Gandalf is giving use the finger and Boromir will later play the Hand in GoT.
15:03 great, you made me have an existential crisis 😒
Tom Bombadil at the end there was awesome!
I love this series
I love this channel
During the 17 years he was away, Gandalf and Aragorn were trying to find Gollum. When they found him, that is when they realised he’d be released by giving up the name ‘Baggins’ and ‘Shire’ from Bilbo and Gollum’s earlier encounter in the Hobbit.
Gandalf reread the same scrolls over and over while eating pizza in Denathor s basement, the old toby can do that sometimes #LOTRrisetowar
New set looks good
I can't stop laughing at this! Hilarious!! Thanks Charlie!

It makes me sad that these videos dont do as well as the star wars ones, cuz theyre just as funny
I’m fairness I don’t think Star Wars hit its stride until the end of the phantom menace, so maybe that will be the same here, also Star Wars is more in the news
“What an inappropriate metric!”
I have a feeling Anakin wouldn’t mind it…

Gandalf did teach Faramir table manners during those 17 years, causing Faramir to lose Denethor's love and respect.
I'm loving the Westron tongue. Gandalf tracked Gollum and put the fear of fire into him.
