About Me
My name is Brandon Herrera. I'm the owner and operator of The AK Guy Inc, a 07 Firearm Manufacturer based out of Fayetteville, NC. I also co-own Stark Media Group, and designed the rifle known as the AK-50.
I've started to dedicate this UA-cam channel above all to have fun, but also as a way to document my entrepreneurial journey for the next few years as I try to grow my companies. Hopefully, people can learn from my example, successes, and failures.
Either way, I'm having a lot of fun with it so far, and I hope it's just as fun to follow along!

My Grandpa served in the soviet army in the 60's. He was one of the best shooters. So when he left the army and became a bus driver, he would sometimes bring reservist officers to a gunrange to practice shooting. Back around 1990-92 they were selling SKS rifles new out of the crate for $75 (all day long), I never brought one, mainly due to M1 Garand's were selling for under $200, M1 Carbines for under $150, and 1917 Enfields under $200. One could even pickup .303 British Enfields for under $75.
I still have a page out of the old recycler (LA classified trade paper) that showed all the good stuff in 1987. Sks was $99, AK maybe $149. Top level stuff like HK91 was $599. Colt Ar15 HBAR was $599, galil $600. All ammo was $89/1000. 22LR was $5/500, I never bought any of that really cheap stuff, I wonder why? 🥸
My dad bought two of them. I have one today and the other ended up in my cousin's hands never to be heard from again. Wish I had that other one too.
Good old days.
@@bigbaddms Big 5 would regularly have sales on CCI 22LR. Life was good. Today's prices give me a cramp.

A lot of venison was put in freezers with SKSs by many people I know up here in the north woods. That was back when an SKS could be had for $75 pulled straight out of a crate and still packed in cosmoline.

Millions of SKSs breathed out a sigh of relief when Tapco went out of business.
Only for ATI to jump in the mix.
I'm not a big fan of the SKS, but even I hate tapco.
Wait, Tapco went out of business?
Who killed tapco?
Remington discontinued tapco not long before going bankrupt itself.
I bought 4 SKS's back in the early 90's and gave one each to my 3 boys. I taught them how to shoot and hunt with them. I love these guns. Triggers are real rough off the shelf but that was easily rectified. The one I kept for myself would repeatably shoot under 3", 3 shot groups @75 yards. Not bad for a battle rifle and iron sights. And these are milled receiver guns for what it's worth.
I bought an SKS several years ago when they were only $200-300. It's a Norinco that is in really good shape with a TWENTY (yep I typed 20) round internal magazine. I put a B-Square scope mount on it with a UTG Bugbuster scope so that I can still use stripper clips to load it. I replaced the firing pin with a spring loaded one (no more bump fires). I'd sell my dead mother's urn before I'd sell it.
20 rounds is pretty damn good!

dang sorry to hear that
My dad and uncle each got dirt cheap SKSs in the 90s, along with a train load of that steel-core ammo they used to have all over the place. They didn't get used very often compared to the lever guns, but when the SKSs did come out it was usually to put a hole through something that no one else could put a hole through. There's a big thicc pipe out by a reservoir they used to camp by, and for the longest time there were only 2 holes in the pipe (one from the SKS round going in, one from it coming out sideways). Now that the standard artillery is no longer the .30-30, there are a lot more holes in that thing, but for a good few years that keyhole steel-core penetration looked very impressive.

The first SKS I ever saw was in 1967 at a pawn shop in Oceanside California right next to Camp Pendleton. I was a junior in high school. A Marine had brought it back from Vietnam in his duffle bag in pieces when he figured out that he couldn't put it back together he took it to the pawn shop. The pawn shop owner didn't know what he had and told us it was a Japanese paratrooper rifle. He didn't know how to put it together either. So he sold it to my buddy for $25.00. My buddy and I looked at the pile of parts and then started putting it together. It turned out to be a Chicom SKS complete with spike bayonet in excellent condition. It came with three 10 stripper clips of 7.62x39 ammunition. So my buddy and I took it out to the foothills of San Marcos and each fired 10 rounds. We took it to the next gun show in LA and my buddy sold it for $150.00 and I sold a discharged LAW launcher tube for $75.00. Today I have 3 SKS's in my accumulation a Russian, a Chicom and a Yugo. As you say they aren't the best rifles on the market and none of them would be the first rifle I would grab out of the vault when the balloon slips the string. But they are in my opinion important pieces of firearms history.
As an uglier older brother myself I feel I now have and unbrokable bond with the SKS
I may be a broke college kid but at least I can afford stripper clips!
Best reply. Not a broke college kid and unfortunately still can't afford another SKS at todays prices.
@@bradbauman7594 Are they around $700 to $1000 usd at the moment? I was surprised to see how much they had increased in price over the past year or two.
Lololololololol!
@@TacticalTerry I just sold a Yugo on g broker for around 800.00 USD. Bought for around 375 or 400 two years ago.
@@rcstl8815 Dang! That's a nice profit. Good on ya. :)
Wish I had bought one a few years back fhen.
It's all up to preference but honestly for what it is, the SKS is quite an effective rifle so you definitely get your bang for you buck when you buy one. Very accurate, grip feels nice against your shoulder, reliable, and not difficult to disassemble. You also get that nice feeling of an older rifle if you're into that. Can easily hit a target at 100 yards with iron sights. If you want something more combat effective, there's plenty of other guns more suited for that but I would pick this rifle over a lot of others anyday.
The sks is NOT ugly; it is a cool looking rifle.
As much pain as it’s brought me, you have to admire the sheer ingenuity of bubbafication.
Do we though? do we?
@@martinlarsen7354
No, not really.
sorry i have seen too many bubba'd casualties
@@martinlarsen7354 In a train-wreck, controlled demolition, we live in a society kind of way.
The tri-bladed bayonet is to make a stronger stabbing blade. Even back in the Civil War, there were plenty of people who had bayonet wounds to the chest stitched up and survived
Yep
It was mainly made to punch though armor
And there were plenty who didn't survive. Some people die from a single bullet, while there are some who take over 20 rounds before they drop. The world is a crazy place.
Exactly. End the myth of the triangle blade!!
@@societalnormality2268 It's not a myth, it was an unintentional side effect of trying to strengthen the bayonet.
@@CertifiedSunset no, a triangle hole is the same as a round hole to close
it is just substantially lighter than a solid bar while being substantially stiffer that a flat blade and therefore better at penetrating harder targets without being damaged
I can say I was bubba for all of 6 months. I did the folding stock and "detachable" magazine and scope thing.
Scope broke, stock was flimsy and the magazines never worked. Went from simple and functional to hot jam-o-matic shit.
I went back to the stock setup and the rifle performed as it should. Also my first experience with garand thumb is with the SKS. I learned that single loading these can come with that risk.
Brandon, rocking the Invicta. Nice! I just ordered their Submariner-esque Pro Diver. Crown and stem came out while trying to adjust the time and date. Returned it on Amazon for a replacement. Can't wait to get it. Seiko makes a great movement and the rest is very decent.
Cool gun too. I have one withoutthe bayonet, but now that we're not in Cali, I'll have to look into fixing that.
The SKS's biggest selling feature: well, at least it's not a Mosin.
Mosin are $400 now.
Mosin is god, I will not take your Russian heresy
luls, my first two rifle purchases...
I clap 12x18" plates with irons at 1000 yards with my Mosin. The sks could never.
Me a Canadian watching PapaKalash loading the sixth round in his mag :
“Wait ! That’s Illegal”
lol you wld have a heart attack watching me load up my 40 rnd duckbill mags tht run flawlessly to everyone who has seen them
I think i almost broke one trying to shove a 6th in there. Really scrambled my brain why it wasnt going in, then i realised the mag was pinned
Not in America! Not yet anyway. Give Biden time and it will be.
@@emperorpalpatine1228 parish the thought!
While we don't get why you need them people who are centrist or left-leaning cannot ban or restrict guns past requiring a license. People who are right leaning would get the guns that the already had because they haven't had them taken away yet, and attempt to overthrow the government. Honestly some of us are a little bit afraid if the right.
Basically, while I think guns should be restricted, it would be too hard for us because, well, people have guns.
2:33 my favorite line I think from this entire movie of which there are many is when he’s ordering a soda and he says “I don’t want a large Farva, I want a liter of cola!”
Brandon, Norinco made a SKS that accepted a 30 round mag it went by type D or F depending on whom you asked , the rifle was shorter than a traditional SKS and some said it was a Paratrooper edition , if you can locate one which isn't easy , it would be a very interesting video !
I have one like you describe I enjoy it very much.
I have that exact one you’re talking about, it has a thumb hole stock and a sling, picked it up for 550$ at some random hillbilly gun shop and boy am I glad I did
Brandon: “you’re all poors!!”
* carries a Makarov
Makarovs are actually pretty expensive
@@commandercody2980 all guns are now, and ammo. Funny how the best gun salesmen are the people in office that want to ban guns and try to turn your country communist.
