I am neither Irish nor a woman. But I just felt like replying to your comment. you know, I got to meet this wonderful song about 2 weeks ago. I have always liked Irish music but this one is so special that it became instantly my favorite song. so yeah, it just feels kind of good to know I'm not the only one who bursts into tears when hearing this I think. anyways, guess I should go and listen to less emotional stuff like whiskey in the Jar and Rocky road to Dublin lol
I cry every time i hear this not only what he went through along with the other signatures the fact they loved each other its 2 sad stories in 1 god bless shanna 🏴🇮🇪xx
Thank you so much for this beautiful emotional upload, it warms my heart that a beautiful young lady like yourself appreciates this amazing song, which is part of our history, love and hugs to you from Ireland xx ❤❤😘😘
Thank you for your reaction to the late Jim McCann singing Grace. I appreciate you making the effort to learn about the tragedy of Joseph and Grace. Joseph was a young man, and a poet, who suffered ill health for much of his life and it would have been understandable if he had decided not to make his stand with his comrades in 1916, but he was a trrue patriot, and for that he would die. Grace was herself a very patriotic lady and she would also end up imprisoned at Kilmainham Gaol some years later for her beliefs. Her cell in Kilmainham Gaol, now a museum, has been preserved, though kept locked for fear that visitors might unintentionally damage the beautiful artwork that she painted on her cell's wall. Visitors may view her painting through a glass peep hole so that physical contact or their breath doesn't cause deterioration.
Yes but as always, you guys fail to mention "WHO IT WAS" that imprisoned Grace in 1923, which was the "Irish Free State" and the Irish national Army, why do you guys always fail to mention that fact??? Even Jim gets his facts wrong as Grace died in 1955 NOT 1969, as an Englishman how do I know this stuff when you Irish don't?
@@Imyourhuckleberry01 At no point in the video or the comment you're replying too was it mentioned who sentenced Joe either, It's simply the story behind the song which is explained, none of the "you Irish" people are pointing any fingers at you or making any claims about you but for some reason "you English" are all over this pointing fingers and giving it "But what about that" Why is it you seem to have taken this entire thing very personally and why is it that *any* *time* even a mention of an event associated with the history of your country "you English" act this way? You appear and point your fingers and tell everyone that other peoples schiedt smells worse than yours? Try growing up.
@@TheJpf79 Do you actually know what order 256 was, if so please explain it, surely the Irish must know more than we English about this? Not to mention the fact that people tend to forget that hundreds of innocent men women and children who were killed during the Rising, children like Christina Caffrey aged 2, or Christopher Cathcart aged 10, Moses Doyle aged 9, John Foster aged just 2, John Gibney aged 5 and of course brave young na Fianna boys like Sean (Jack) Healy aged just 14 (it breaks my heart every time I see that young boys photo... just google "Sean Healy 1916") ... on and so on, who mourns the loss of these innocent Irish children now = NO ONE! The fact is the Easter Rising had ZERO chance of success from the start and was always going to be a blood sacrifice indeed the local Irish Dublin people swore at and spat on the rebels as they were being arrested such was their disgust at the Rising "by those Irish people who suffered the consequences of the Rising and those who were actually there at the time"
I'm an Irish man born and raised, I'm not being biased here or anything but this is hands down the best song ever written.. my niece was named after this song Grace 🇮🇪🍀💚
I'm am an Irish Man this song holds so much history the blood upon the rose is in regards to the murder of Oliver Plunkett by the English crown he was hung drawn and quatered for his religious believes , on 1/7/1681 in , if i have not mentioned Joseph Mary was a descendant of Oliver who an irish land owner of most SpirituaI place loughcrew cairns
Although I can't hear the tune I followed the lyrics. I think given their rhyming I had a tune in my mind. I love these songs, sad as they are, they follow actual events. This also made me think of those many men who went to war, never to return. Long may these kinds of songs live on, they all give a story, history and hopefully a lesson. Ta Ashley 🧏. Stephanie. (I have a few songs my Grandparents used to sing to me when I was small, I know the tune and lyrics only for the fact they would place my hand on their throat (Grans) or chest (Grandads), my hands are my ears). Sadly, Grace did not resonate through the speaker, so I could feel/hear the music).
What a comment! As I said when I replied to another person here, this has become my favorite song and your comment makes it even more special to me somehow I guess
This is my Lyric video and I only take credit for adding the lyrics. Everything else was Jim McCann and The Dubliners. This is my brothers karaoke/open mic song that I heard many times as kid but I never really understood the meaning until I was an adult........then years later UA-cam and editing software came along and I was able to make that video.
So sad telling a story of a man who fought for Independence in 1916. We were under foot of the british empire and we are a very old culture. 5,000 year plus and never invaded or enslaved others. course there were wars and hostages were taken but not slavery like in america.
Thank you! Thank you! Blessings, love!
I'm an Irish woman, and knowing the story as well as song, I'm crying. Thank you for watching and reviewing it.

Joseph mary plunket Irish hero Easter rising 1916. They were shot by the British
Sadly this was one of Jim's final performances before permanently losing his voice to cancer
He was of 15 executed for the uprising
I hate this song only because it's tragic. I know it like the back of my hand because I had to learn it but it's a sad one.
I understand
