I know they won’t do it because it’s not their style, but R.E.M. is welcome to come back anytime if they want to.
I've been a huge fan for 20 years but I think they quit at exactly the right time - they made one more good album, did it on their own terms and avoided the trap of "Old Guys Still Trying. to Rock." Love them even more for calling it quits.
100% agree. I respet bueno miss them
This version rules. Chris outshined Stipe.
Mike Mills harmonies really square the circle
God, I miss REM.
I was absolutely lucky enough to catch REM at a “fucking roller rink” in East Sautuket Long Island NY in 83, then 15 more times thru the years! Still holding out hope for 1 more tour!!!!!
Mike Mills, the legend! He still has "IT"
Nice job Chris. You can tell hes a fan of REM. He put alot of energy into this.
Mike mills is still awesome.
Ah the sweet sound of Rickenbacker guitars and bass!
There's a fantastic Live REM outdoor festival where Michael Stipe welcomes a new young singer to the stage to sing with him....Thom Yorke....must see
Saw the Black Crowes this past summer in Seattle and they sang this song with Peter Buck playing. Glad Chris joined the band to sing here. Love him. But would really like to see Michael Stipe join the band again. Saw them live in London in 1989 and it was fantastic. R.E.M. is still one of my favorite bands.
Automatic for the People is a dear dear friend of mine as music goes. Came in clutch for me when I really needed a sad album. What happened to Michael Stipe?
@@lethiapage4767 nothing. I think the original poster was under the impression that this was REM, when this is actually Mike Mills just joining the Black Crowes, hence why he’s not playing bass, there’s no Peter Buck, etc.
@@Tyrannosaurine thanks Justin!
You didn't see the Black Crowes. You saw the Robinson Brothers with a bunch of guys who never played on any of their sit. You saw the Karaoke Crowes.
@@Tyrannosaurine
How could you possibly have not recognised Peter Buck in this video?
Chris Robinson is amazing!
Is that the black crowes singer?
Yes. Amazing. Better than Stipe. Love it!
Thank you REM for a great song and a brilliant career. I'm a 62 yr old punk rocker and headbanger.and hava been a huge fan since I saw the band perform at Letterman in '81
Chris your voice still legendary 👏👏
It’s a pretty sweet twist on this by Chris. Didn’t think I’d like it as much as I did.
Two of my favourite bands of all time 🫠. I miss Michael
My first time hearing South Central Rain, it was SO different than what was on the stupid radio. I was glad to see them multiple times through their career.
Exactly.
I love this!🤘
Great song... Well done to get a sound of love to Rock.... Big fan of REM since 1991
So good!!!!
Chris did an Fantastic Job!!
Fantastic, fabulous! Two of my favorite bands of all time.
Sound great love this song
I love this!
this is really good 😃
I love Chris' take and different vocal add to a great song. Never get tired of hearing this song.
Yea he should do it on a album if he didn't
❤ Thank you very much
Excellent collaboration
man i wish i were there
Loved it.
I hated when REM bowed out, but then again, I can appreciate the way they did it. Could I be selfish and want them back, yep, music could use their creativity right now. Be Well
😁
Pretty great legacy
I hate to say it but it was weak and selfish to there millions of fans who supported them to leave as they did. They def had ANOTHER last gr8 album and Farwell tour in them
I hated when they sold out with this album
I was gutted when they split, but I love them more for it. There are not many bands who should do the same.
amazing
Memories❤
Chris sounds great singing REM!! Album please 🙏
Mills without a Rickenbacker on stage is almost a crime..
Chris Robinson does this song justice
I saw them in 1995 with opening act Radiohead
Ah, sweet baby.
Wow Chris, i see the last concert of CRB in Munich ☮️
Still do i miss the good old Times .
what? 😮😍😍😍
Seriously a great set. Chris Robinson could def. fill in as lead if they took this on tour. I've also said that Stipe has gone down that Morrissey route of weirdness in his head when it comes to playing with the band..
They won't tour simple as that .
I'm a freshman in 1989. Seems a few days ago. Now, I'm in my fifties, and people call me "sir", and all my heroes are old. It's called life, I guess.
Nice.
Cara!!!! Chris Robinson arrasou! Lógico que ter Mike Mills de backing vocals e o Peter Buck na guitarra ajuda mas ele foi autêntico! Excelente versão!
Demais!!!! Chris poderia substituir o Michael numa boa...
Ficou muito bom mesmo. Não dá pra fazer melhor q isso. Mas o Stipe é a alma da banda.
and Peter Buck is on the guitar!! wow
he is there, how did they miss this in the titles!
@JamesAllmond Stipe attended too.
I would like that very much.❤️❤️❤️❤️🧐
Chris sound great on this song
Excellent version of this song
The one-eye love……
Revelations 318, put thy cbd salve on thine eye so that you may see. Third eye blind. Good call.
Robinson crushes this. Awesome. Where was stipe?
This one goes out to the Rickenbacher.
Wish Stipe would jam live REM again
Say less.
@@mattbdavis sounds harsh
@@ChrisLawton66 it's what the kids say when they are excited about something.
@@mattbdavis Ah, I see. Sounds less harsh to children, I guess. Say no more.
Stipes voice was REM ffs 🙈☝️
Missing me some Jefferson Holt! Cheers
Oh please come back to me.
Still haunting, just differently so.
That this was at The 40 Watt Club makes it a legendary show, even without Michael.
This one was Roxy in ATL. The night before was 40 Watt.
Michael Stipe looks different, and where's the guy with one eyebrow? Can't find him anywhere.
Someone call them……I’m in Vancouver Washington……any bar would accommodate them, as that’s how I’d like to see them…..intimate…like in the old days…
Is that a Crockenbacker Rich has... I thought Tim Rogers had the only two made...? Want want, need need!
There is a luthier in Ohio named Chris Odee who makes the 330f as well. I am lucky to have one. Maybe he made this one as well. The tailpiece is the same as mine. TRs crocks have a different one and also does not have rickenbacker plaque on the neck.
@@wallyraffles Thanx - just checking out Chris' Insta now
That's definitely not an REM 40th anniversary.
Mike Mills and Peter Buck!
Where is Michael Stipe?
Can anyone tell me why Stipe isn't there? I'm a little confused. This is awesome! But I wonder about Michael. 💜
He lives in France now working on photography books
@@teamrocketshorts6110 and he didn't show up because of this?
He's come out and said he has retired from all things REM
@@ineedanewname9595944 yeah I mean what a man gonna do but not fly across the world when Chris can actually hit the notes
@@teamrocketshorts6110 Sorry- makes you want to hear Michael. Who I hear is releasing a solo album soon.
Were tickets available to the public?
Yes. There was a show in Athens, then a night later in Atlanta!
Sven on bass. Shit I thought looked to be dale peters in his 40’s
i loved REM, but also loved it that they stopped at just the right time when they were still good. Don't like those bands that stretch it so they become a parody of themselves
For the first few seconds I thought it was Patti Smith on guitar!
Just to hear “Honey and me” one time would do it……and then listen to stories…..
Boy, someone hosed up the ending badly. I'm thinking it was Rich Robinson on the Gretsch.
Wheres Michael?
So cold and rainy in Berlin...
Get back, boy...
R.E.M.
I didn't know Patti Smith played guitar for R.E.M.
Chris Robinson is brutal,just brutal.
Can someone fill me in where Stipe is? And why he isn't involved.
He's fronting for the "Twilight years" band and can't be bothered!?!
@@thomasherrin6798 thank you for info. I will look them up.
Michael McDonald killing it on tambourine
I shared a pitcher of beer w Peter Buck before they were famous
Is that David Cross at 2:53 in the background?
Yes. He was the host. If you watch the complete show clip you'll see lots of him.
So only 2 showed up
Wow Michael got his hair back, but I'm digging the older style.
Where’s the jumpsuit, Millsey?
It should habe been "another prop" in the third verse.
Why no Stipe?
To bad the entire bad was not there...that is a pity. They are all still alive...
"The entire bad?"
That is maybe an insufficient reason for a reunion, they have got to want to do it as well!?!
Where is Stipe?
They got more members than Gwar
Just get back together already lads.
Can somebody say who's on drums ?
Used to play with Rich Robinsons bands. Also toured with the crowes for a few years.
Joe Magistro
@@robbie2times150
I don’t think he ever toured with the Crowes.
Was the drummer of the Magpie Salute, though. ✌️
@@kiekko673 he toured with them, playing percussion
Too bad Rich disbanded Magpie Salute!!! They were really great live and all 3 albums totally rocked!!!!
Who's cooler than Peter Buck? Answer: Nobody
Why didn’t Michael show up?
But where is Michael
is this the original singer
Where in the world is Michael?
Yes, he working on a new geographical computer game!?!
Not a fan of either group, but this sounded great.
......and Michael???????
Eternal great band but...
where is Stipe?
If you boys want to hear a proper cover, check out bush covering The one I love
Strange that the bass players mic can’t pick up the vocals for 50 years
When did Mike Mills become Bea Arthur? 🤔🧐
Wahahahahahahaah.
No resemblance whatsoever. Nice try. Maybe not.
no michael, no party
not REM , its a band with a few members From REM
Nobody say it was REM! What a pointless comment
Lol ok 👍
@@garysheppard9391 yes sir , my bad
Its a nice tribute and I thought Chris did really good.
And no I hope REM stick to their decision and don't reform and just become another oldies band like The Stones. They owe us nothing.
Why are you even bothering?
