Sounds great! Ampeg has been killing it with their new releases. I’m like you and I had moved away from their stuff despite loving the sound due to the size and weight of their more traditional offerings.
"... what didn't you like about it, besides me?" dude, 2 seconds earlier and I had spit my coffee all over my desk :D Top video and the cab sounds very nice, especially as I'm playing Spector myself! Would love to hear it with a mid scooped EQ and a bit of overdrive or fuzz. Can imagine the "fullness" of the sound would acomplish my very grindy sound to make it more full sounding, without becoming tame
The mids were a little much which is weird cause on stage it didn’t sound like that but the DI doesn’t lie. It’s a weird venue for acoustics too cause it’s spacious and the room is a mix of brick walls, wood walls, etc. wasn’t my favorite bass to play cause we did it for another upcoming review. Not even my bass tbh. It came from the channel. Anyways. Thanks everyone for your comments. Some of you even decided to double up your distaste for the bass and my playing and comment randomly on a photo from my IG…. Cause that’s not creepy and weird at all…. Thanks for watching!
66 lbs is quite nice the fridge like 150 lbs. way to much even when i played a 2x15" cab. i went to 2 single 15" cabs. ,with EV prolines ,i'm lucky if my 4x10 neo cab weighs 60 lbs.
I also scoop my mids quite a bit so i guess this comment section would hate my tone as well. I liked the change in venue for this review by the way, also I'm curious how you were able to record the isolated bass? It sounds like the band mix still leaks through a bit but maybe that was done in post?
The audio you’re hearing is 100% from the bass mic. In those casino gigs, you don’t have much opportunity to fully crank the bass amp so after raising the gain a bit in post, the rest of the stage volume comes with it.
I think this whole mid scoop fiasco people are fixated on is mostly due to the bass. 2-band EQ with no detents. Not sure where they were set during the gig. The amp settings had Ultra Lo and Hi engaged with the mid knob set to approximately 2 o’clock (at 1.5kHz). The Ultra switches are obviously going to take some mids out but it’s not like we dialed in Fieldy’s tone.
The bass! The pickups in the performer are a little different… a little 😂 that’s the frustrating part cause on stage the bass sounded incredible. DI has it sounding like I had the intention of clanky smacky tone. 🥹
Hmm. For me(?) Your sound is too much plck - plck - plck/plck/plck/plck - plck - plck. And next question: yes, I'm playing the video through a Sony sound bar. So it's not one's normal OEM tinny response.
Jesus Christ that bass is scooped to hell. It's probably The Spector but either way. At this point in time an 88 is probably one of the most useless cabs out there. You can get a 410, a 212, with an RMS of 1000w if not more, in a smaller package, and at a much lighter weight. The Ampeg 88 is the worst of all worlds.
This is their $400 model and it was pretty mid focused on its own. It wasn’t my favorite to play but we were using this opportunity to make another video also. Hey it is what it is. The other Spector I played at that gig were phenomenal! This wasn’t bad… it just wasn’t for me
The Korean Spectors with the Korean electronics do not do them justice. I had a Legend Standard and it sounded like a cheap bass. They sound nothing like a Euro or ReBop.
ahhhh we meet again, Chuck bailey, my own worst enemy.
Man that sounded good, and wow it still looks so cool. Very nice.
Honey, I shrunk the mids.
Et tu Brute…

Great sound Chuck!!
This comment section has never heard a modern rock tone in their life

Dude that venue sounded like poop!
But the tone was on point for sure!
Wow man this is such an awesome bass right here I love it❤️😍🥰🎸🎵
it costs MORE than the svt810E WTF were they thinking!!! Just get a 6x10 if you want something lighter than 8x10 imo

@TheBassChannel gotcha, that makes sense and I'm sure the tone is affected a bit by that as well. Thanks!

Timing?
Was it the amp or bass that was so clanky?

Was this gig in Atlantic City?
Las Vegas NV
It does not sound like could handle B string from 5-st bass.
too mid scooped...
