    Buying a used v-drum kit is a great solution if you want to play a good electronic drum kit and save some money at the sane time. Roland drums last forever, they are reliable and so much fun to play even if they are a few years old. But how can you be sure if everything is ok with the kit?
    We created a checklist which will help you to buy a used v-drum kit and not getting tricket. You can download and print out this checklist and take it with you.
    It is always better to collect the kit. You should be able to play and see the kit. The seller should give you the possibility and enough time to check it out. The kit should be fully assembled and ready to play.
    You should bring your sticks, headphones and a jack adapter. In case the seller doesn’t have them. Don’t appear without those things. And of course don’t forget our checklist.
    (Let’s start with the Checklist)
    Checklist:
    - Have a look at the overall condition. What is your first impression of the kit. Does it look clean or dusty, are there any rusty spots on the metal parts?
    - Switch on the module and start playing, press every single button even if you don’t know their functions. Play around with the settings, don’t worry if you’re changing anything. You can do a factory reset later on. Also check all plugs, is any of them loose? Are there any incidents for liquid on the module? Is the LCD screen ok?
    - The hihat pedal is one of the weakest parts of a v-drum kit. These FD-8 pedals are usually faulty after a while. Reason for that could be a stiff rubber part or a broken sheet sensor. We have fixing solutions for both problems. Make sure the spiky screws are not missing.
    - Check every cymbal pad. All Roland cymbals have at least two trigger zones. You should be able to here them both. Some of their ride cymbals have even 3 zones. Check if the choke function is working, don’t forget to test the choke on the hihat cymbal. Make sure the cymbals are attached by the cym-10 rotation stopper set. They shouldn’t spin. Otherwise it’s not an original Roland mount. How does the rubber look like, are there cracks or wasted spots?
    - The snare pad with mesh head. Check the mesh head for damages like holes and dirt. Are there any signs for liquid? How about the rim rubber, is it in good condition? Are the rim screws rusty? All Roland snare pads have two zones, check out if you can here both head and rim sound.
    - Check the tom pads for cracks if they are made out of rubber. Tom pads are usually duo trigger pads on middle class v-drum kit like TD-12. Check if every pad provides head and rim sound.
    - The kick pad should have all its screws, make sure the spiky screws are there and nothing is rusty.
    - The cables shouldn’t have kinks, be taped or any other damage. Cables are fixable if you’re able to solder. Make sure the plugs are not loose or the cable hasn’t been stretched.
    - The rack: Look for scratches and check out if every screw is in place. Are there any clamps missing? What about the cymbal stands, are they in working order? Is any part damaged or bended?
    Reasons to not buy the kid:
    1.) You shouldn’t buy the kit if you clearly see rest or marks of liquid on the module. Liquid damages cannot be fixed in most cases. If electrical parts get in contact with water, they will grow salt crystals and they cause short circuits after a while.
    2.) Damaged electronic parts related to the module are critical. Electronic repairs are complicated and not always possible.
    3.) The metal plates of kick or hihat pedals are totally rusty. That could mean the kit was placed in a wet area. Maybe an indicator for more damage.
    Most of the other issues are fixable if you’re a handy person. We provide a lot of videos on how to fix broken roland gear, but you still need to be able to improvise. Both, spare parts and repairs can be expensive. If you still want to buy a kit with normal damages, try to push the price.
    Some general tips when buying second hand:
    -ask why the person is selling the kit
    -have a look at the negative ratings if you want to buy online
    -never buy under time pressure

    Good tips and advices!I would add : "take a small USB key with some mp3 on it to test the USB in or the USB save function" and "use the headphones with headphones outpout AND general output! if there is no amplifier available during the test".
    I like your youtube channel!

    It should be mentioned that if you see a little discolored dot in the center of Roland mesh heads, it's a high possibility that the trigger foam needs to be replaced.

      +Basem Botros Hi Basem, 500cad is a good price, especially if it comes with a double pedal. Try to push the price if you find any issue.

    I am looking to buy this very same model on eBay. Could you advise what would be an average price paid for a Roland TD-3 nowadays in (EUR)?
    Your buying tips are very helpful! When I go on to pickup a piece of gear, I am usually hyperactive and just wanna go home and play with it :)) but it is worthwhile checking it out properly!
    Thank you for taking the time to make such a video!!!

    Most important tip for me is "Never buy under time pressure." You will probably buy anything under pressure 🤣

    Just what I needed to find! Thanks for the tips. I'm going to check out a TD-11k soon. It's allegedly 2.5 years old and the person is asking $650 with gibraltar throne and iron cobra 200 single chain. Is the price too low that I should worry? Either way, I'll be checking it out, and definitely better informed now to make a decision. Thanks again and keep posting more videos please!

      +Ward O This is a killer deal. Make sure everything is alright with the kit. 2,5 year is not old for a V-drums Kit.

    Any tips for buying from ebay? I live in a city that just doesn't have a lot of music stores and the ones we do have don't have much used stuff so i am forced to buy from out of town or buy new.

      I can only give you the advice to check general ebay advices that are not related to e-drums, to make sure you buy good gear.

    I have a Roland TD-9KX2 (You can see it on my channel) and I have a question about expanding my drum set. As I said I have the Roland TD-9KX2 and I don't want to spend $200 on a Roland TMC-2 just so I can only have two extra trigger inputs. So I was thinking if it is possible to connect two Roland TD-9 modules together to make a mega set. Is there a way to connect the two modules by Midi or some other way in order for it all to be as one kit. Thanks.

    • @Vdrumtips1
      @Vdrumtips1  9 років тому

      Hi, yes, you can use one td9 as midi trigger for the main td9. The other way is using a mixing table. The cheapest way is however using an alises trigger IO.

    My kick pad (kd-8) is missing the two screws that prevent it from closing up. What could I use?

      I had this problem too. So I took 2 M6 screws and modified their tip with a file.

    • @Vdrumtips1
      @Vdrumtips1  8 років тому

      There is not much you can do with a TD-6. Best would be to sell it and to buy another module.

    But what if the seller lives too far away?

    • @MM-vs2et
      @MM-vs2et 5 років тому

      I'm pretty sure buying something of that cost, would be worth the drive. If it's too far away, then try finding a near seller. One you can inspect in person. Otherwise, I wouldn't suggest buying a used one. The risks are simply higher.
