Cain and Able was about murder and jealousy not human sacrifice for a greater good, WTF? Human sacrifice is horrid and immoral and yet its the foundation of a religion of people who eagerly engaged in genocide and slavery. Even to this day, these people believe that they alone are blessed by God and all others can be sacrificed. Its now on TV with a title of "Shock and Awe," human sacrifice to go with your TV dinner. Peterson is a loony person who talks very well and sprinkled in his nonsense are what sound like bits of wisdom, but his wisdom is linked to nonsense therefore its worthless. The poor man's intellectual, babbling for bucks as people don't stop be critical of the words, but swallow the nonsense like tasty candy coated poison. When humans get rid of fairy tales and superstition we can grow, until then we are pawns in a game of a global Cain and Able warfare of who has the best fairy tale.

@@godzoo18 Actually, his intellect and wisdom is a gift and I think he knows that his personal sacrifice is to offer these gifts back to God which may seem terrifying to him, and tantamount to great loss, but the reality is more abundance and depth and spiritual connection with his creator. It is in giving that which we hold most dear that we receive back in abundance - it starts as sacrifice but it ends up with one’s cup running over in blessing. It is no coincidence that he turned to studying the Bible - Maybe just to dip into it and explore initially and use it in his lectures, but then he kept stumbling across great wisdom and analogies of the human condition which he has observed first hand, and which is essentially fallen. In his profession he has seen at first hand the suffering that sin has on people. He is overwhelmed sometimes with the grief he has witnessed, the hopelessness that many people suffer - he can only help to a point - but ultimately all roads are leading him to Jesus, who is the redeemer of our sinful nature and our only true hope this side of eternity.

The sacrifice that God requires is our personality/identity/ego. We must die in the flesh (material) to be reborn in the spirit (Christ). Not my will, but thine. We are not separate from God. Our egos very existence depends on keeping us entertained and distracted.

We pick up our cross and stumble up the damn hill, as JP puts it. We suffer along with him as we transform our lives, our being, on a lifelong journey toward theosis, where we become fully Christ-like. God became man so that man might become like God. That's the whole point. If you think the point is to make a one-time mental assent to belief and going on cruise control till you die, you've missed the whole point. Anyone can say they believe. Belief is only Step One on a lifelong journey. Now you have to live out that belief.

Nah, Jesus talked about the law & works to show men they couldn't earn heaven with their own works.
Jesus had to live a perfect life to be the perfect sacrifice ... your goal as a christian is not to get Christ-like : because you can't, you can't be perfect and sinless. Having a single sin in your life makes you infinitely *not* christ-like, for who sin once is guilty before the whole law.

You goal as a christian is to pull other out of the fire, i.e preaching the gospel, and the right one. Good works is for justification in men's sight, to attract them to the light, so they might see Christ.
Your cross is the persecution you will encounter doing do. You'll not be persecuted ever by helping the less fortunate, doing unto others, loving our neighbor, being the Good Samaritan ... ask yourself why satan doesn't even bother to attack such people?

@@nicolas9533 Yes, and our good works are described in the Bible as 'filthy rags', for the purpose of illustrating that God IS and HAS everything - He needs nothing from us.
Jesus has paid the wages for our sin IN FULL. We need Him. It is inappropriate to think that our good works can pay for salvation.
To think of our deeds deserving salvation is like wearing clean clothes an unwashed body (appearance of salvation only).
Good works issue from Christ's atoning work in us and the Holy Spirit indwelling. They are for the purpose of convicting others of the love and mercy of God in the good work of his son, Jesus.
I’m 65. Although time has chased me into a corner, I intend to fight back with every thing I have in me. I’ve lived my youth for ungrateful and demanding people and as of last year, I have said enough. As long as there is breath in me, I will not give up. It’s my time now and I know what I have to do. And sitting around feeling sorry for myself because my youth was spent on others, isn’t in my vocabulary. As long as I can still retain a thought in my mind I’m going to learn and become. I really have no other option. Because giving up…isn’t my style.
Please don't try and control your life, it can't be done. Give it to Christ every morning and ask Him to do it for you, and don't forget to thank Him every night for all His blessings. Forgiveness and love are the keys. It is never too late to become the man that you might have been with Christ. He has a plan for you and everyone else reading this just like He had for the thief on the cross.

I myself can’t heal if I cannot forgive and look at the past as lessons for me to grow in strength for what may lie around the corner. A humble heart yes. But a strong one too.

I had to do that to move forward. Because it became toxic and impeded me from moving forward.
I feel these words. I deeply understand the meaning of it.

As much as I am intrigued by Jordan Peterson, we need to recognize that he is not the final word on Christian Truth. He’s phenomenally insightful and even helpful - just not the final Word. Truth is truth, whether coming from the lips of a harlot or a priest, or to quote C.S. Lewis, the best reason to become a Christian is because “it’s TRUE”. JP has a lot of Truth, and many are praying that The Truth has him! If you love Jordan you’ll REALLY love the Bible!

Though God foreknew His chosen, His ELECT before He made the world and their salvation is secure from the beginning, we humans are limited by time, and tend to view the Christian Life as a process.

The people who are most afraid and fear death are the ones with the most weapons and are mostly religious. Also, religious following is based MOSTLY on where you are born, the culture and family to which you are born, and at what time in history that you are born. West of India most people worship a type of God, east of India, religions are mostly about control of ones self and inner peace. People spend more time deciding which car to drive than they do which religion to follow. Of course YOUR RELIGION, the one that you were randomly born into, is the correct religion... you're not alone on that thought. It is possible to live a long happy life with no religion at all. In fact the longest living people the world, those that live in Hong Kong, Japan, Macao, Switzerland, and Singapore, have no religion at all. If you need religion to survive then that is based on what influences you have allowed to enter your brain. The Bible is full of slavery, incest, murder, rape and human sacrifice. It would seem that we would live together better, and with more kindness, without all of that violence as a basis for belief.

How long is everlasting life? One hundred lifetimes? A million lifetimes? A trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion life times? At some point everlasting life is unrealistic, its a meme to warp thought. Human sacrifice is inhuman, why would that be a lesson on how to treat each other, its not exactly leadership by example, is it? Should we all sacrifice our sons for the greater good? When that doesn't work God sacrifices his son or a manifestation of himself to forgive everyone for every sin that they commit from now until the end of time.
Yet in reality, what religion you have is based more on when, where, and what culture you were born to, than any level of free will to "decide" on a religion, which few people do. One has to read the old Testament in conjunction with the New Testament. Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice and out of thankfulness we try and be His followers. Our sacrifices will not save us or get us in Heaven but our faith.

We make sacrifices every day that we don't even realize. We sacrifice our peace when get get up late, are late to work, and get angry because people aren't driving fast enough. We sacrifice our Hope when we choose a negative perspective about situations or people. We sacrifice our joy by being so concerned about our past and or future that we cannot be present in the present moments we are living. We sacrifice our ability to Love to greater degrees by rejecting those we don't understand or agree with. And all the sacrifices we make that we don't see, sacrifice our relationship with our Creator because we are so self consumed that we become our biggest priority in life.

@@suzettevdm51 Humility is not a state of being, as Christianity has taught that it is. It is a state of mind that effects your state of being. True humility doesn't need a "thorn in the flesh" to remain humble, because it naturally esteems others higher than itself.

Maybe It's the reason why they gave sacrifices to God that made the difference.
Maybe Abel sacrificed because he was thankful, so he wanted to praise God, but in the other hand Cain sacrificed, so he could get something in return.
That's an interesting point of view when we think about God's grace in Christ. You see, salvation is a free gift from God obtained by faith alone. "By grace through faith ye are saved".
I really don't like it when people look at Christians who try to live godly, and then they make comments like: "You only avoid sin because you are afraid to go to hell".
First of all, if you know a little bit about the Bible and the gospel of Jesus, you know that we are saved by grace. It's a free gift. Nothing one do or don't do can add or take away from that. Nothing.
"If you believe in your heart that Christ is lord, and that he died and that god rose him from the dead, and you confess ith with thy mouth, you will be saved." This verse is pretty clear in my opinion.
I don't do good works and sacrifices like fasting to be saved. No! I am already saved, and because I know that, I do sacrifices so I show my thankfulness, and also to be a light for others. Jesus himself said:" Let your light so shine before man, so that they see your good works and glorify your father which is in heaven."

Being saved depends on repenting of one’s sins from the heart before and hopefully at least at the moment of death. That is why not everyone who says Lord Lord (like Cain) will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Matthew 7:21
@@icu1777 just as a thought, we don’t know cains eternal state before he died. Bible only mentions his death just like his fathers (Adam). After living for ~900 yrs, he could of repented.
I think we’re going to see a lot of people we would consider evil in heaven, and be missing who we considered as good people, in heaven also.
Don’t forget, two the greatest men in the Bible King David, and Moses, we’re both murderers. So, Cain might be up there also.

The difference between the sacrifices is incredibly pertinent. One of the brothers knew and understood that there was nothing he could DO to revere, or thank or glorify God, because God is God, He is all in all. There is nothing we can do or say , nothing.
The other brother gave a ‘ sacrifice’ , revealed his pride ( pride is the original sin) by giving God the work of his own hands. He doesn’t understand his relationship with God.

It’s utterly tragic, you cannot absolutely cannot buy HIS love, or salvation, it’s free, it’s because HE loves us and will do anything to bring us to HIM.

I’ve been following this guy for a little while now. He’s been a nice kick in the pants. I’m also 57 years old. I was an abused boy. I stayed a boy for many years and now I’m fully a man. I moved cross country during the pandemic to Los Angeles. To build my life as a professional actor and also I help people in a professional mentoring business. If you’re around my age and you’re listening to Jordan Peterson and sometimes you can get a little dismayed you did not wake up until you did. He does tend to vilify people who don’t take responsibility for themselves before they’re the age of 40. Some of us didn’t even know it was possible. The point is work with where you’re at. That’s all you can do. And then take his teachings and go forth as clearly as you can. But do not be dismayed. He can sometimes have that ricochet effect.
He sounds like he went through hell as a phycologist teaching responsibility in Canada the land of “you are what you feel liberal thought” That you have no responsibility,that society is to blame for every wrong situation your in. And this thought has spread from Americans coasts towards the center. God help us!

@@tw7231 I feel his intention is pure. To wake us up to the present moment and create our life even as it’s hard as fuck. He simply gets carried away like the best of us and forgets he is the age that some of us are and he might want to talk to a version of himself if he were not so awake versus a version that is so awake, you know? If you haven’t read his two famous books, do read them. You’ll highlight the hell out of them and you’ll just keep opening them again and again and again for eternal insight. Those two books are all you need to keep going in many ways.

I really like that you said we have to often SACRIFICE what things we love and are holding onto in order to move forward. Along these lines, I have found there to be a very strong COUNTER-INTUITIVE aspect to God's Nature, so that we gain by sacrificing something. It's like when I had to clean a storage unit. At first it was too painful to get rid of anything. But God allowed me time to understand that unless I got rid of and let go of things which I had years ago prized and cherished, I would never move forward. It took a few years to work up the courage to be objective and begin throwing and cleaning and giving away and selling stuff.
God read Cains heart and told him you can’t offer me sacrifices when your heart is polluted with bad thoughts and probably actions as well. You do not go from one day to the next and kill someone. Cain had already been having evil thoughts towards his brother. He probably even planned it before killing his brother.
Cain's sacrifice of grain was stingy, probably of poor quality and God said he did not do well. Able gave the best lamb he had. Cain surely had an envious, murderous heart. I can't understand the reason God didn't kill Cain.
@@tatie7604 God didn't kill Cain because Cain would die anyway in some future event, because humans always die. The view of humans is that death is the "worst possible result," because atheism is always hiding in the corner. For God, death is only a transition for humans, not the "worst possible result." The transition might be awful for you, but so is birth. You just don't remember that.
We see this constant pattern in entertainment media: "Your death is the absolute worst possible result."
At the bottom is the same message: "Your existence is of no value. You die and your consciousness ends. The Universe itself is of no value or meaning. Everything you do or have done is meaningless."
And WHY do we wonder about the high death rate from suicide for males? The attempt at replacement of God in woke-Leftist philosophy? We should not be surprised by any of this.

True, its mostly white males who commit suicide and 70% of them are Christians while 11% are not religious. I respect you Mr. Peterson for your attempt to bring people into awareness of moral matters. In this case, I can't help saying, cut the rhetoric. God receives animal sacrifices as a confession of man stating that he is a sinner who takes the lives of those to whom God has given life. Acknowledging ones sinful nature before a merciful God is to receive His mercy and to be granted life. God rejected Cain's sacrifice because it did not acknowledge his sinful nature. Any man who denies his sins, his deeds will prove him evil before God who judges. Once God judges a man it marks him for all eternity. Jesus was sent to be the sacrificial Lamb as a one time sacrifice for all men, so whosoever confesses that the sinless died for his sins, he should be saved.

The story of Cain and Able plays out over and over again in each of our lives. We seek the good with our actions and sacrifices but much of the time we fall short of the goal. Precisely describes the maturing (or not) experience. For any that have not discovered this truth yet let me encourage you as a 73 year old who only last year came to embrace this crisis. It does, as Jordan says, involve sacrifice but it's only the sacrifice of ego and that's something to be desired. Ultimately, your sacrifice has been made for you already by Jesus and in that union, where we die and live as he is in this world, lies the fulfillment which is beyond compare. When everybody is somebody, nobody is anybody.

Why do they all miss this, Marina? A preacher preaching word salad philosophy leading people to what? He doesn't lead you to an understanding of God or the Bible. He brings false hope to people that feel hopeless. He talks about sacrifice without talking about the one that sacrificed everything for us. He's afraid for Jesus because Jesus teaches us the opposite of what he's selling.

God does not require sacrifice. The idea of sacrifice creates a fear of God, which is antithetical to what He is. If God is Love then one does not reach Him by love's opposite. The only thing that is "sacrificed" as we return to Him is our illusions about God, ourselves, and each other, and to sacrifice illusions is to sacrifice nothing.
You nailed it!!!! Perfect love casts out all fear. And fear, is no good reason to believe in anything, let alone an all loving God!!!!! We just need to accept that we were already accepted at The Cross. Peace to you
Love comes with its own twin Fear... a mother who loves her child will be very fearful for the child's safety. Whatever you love defines your fear(s), conversely whatever you fear is related to what you love/seek. How can one love God and not fear letting God down!? Unless you believe God does not expect anything from you! Opposite of Love is not Fear as you say, perhaps Hate is more relevant but when you examine opposite of Fear:
1- Kids think the opposite of Fear is Courage
2- In Stock-Market Fear is opposite of Greed
3- Christians believe Fear is opposite of Love
4- In Islam Fear/Despair is opposite of Hope
So Christians take that from reading John 4:18... "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love." However this verse is compatible with the idea that if you Love God you won't be afraid of anything worldly and conversely if you love the world, you neither fear letting God down nor fear his promised punishment in hell. I go with the definition of Islam though as I find it more accurate. Indeed if you Love God then you MUST also be afraid to let God down. In this sense you need to keep your soul in the sweet spot between both fear and hope and this is a healthy spot too when you think about it. You are never sure of yourself to become arrogant and you are never so hopeless to lose faith altogether.
Note that in Islam not every phenomenon is part of a "duality in opposition" as in Yin & Yang, nope, there is such a thing as "duality in unity" as well, and so the Greek philosophy of "moderation between two extremes" is not always correct. When we're dealing with duality in unity we have to understand one side is just a mental shadow and so does not even exist, this is حق and باطل, translations online don't do justice.

It is we who do not know ourselves because we made a false self to replace our true self. Having made the false, we no longer know what is true. Yet we can return to what is true by following God’s Voice back to Him.

I doubt as a christian you would disagree with the idea that God is testing us, with clear evidence in bible too. So assuming we are not bastards and our seeds are perfect, still we have to go through many challenges to grow, failing these challenges and tests or committing sins (damaging our own souls) essentially mean we are letting God down, in Quran for example God says that our tests are always within the limits of our given capability to cope with, this is why the closer one or a society is to God the more difficult/advanced the test will be! ... and there won't be any excuses for failing!

The reason Able's sacrifice is accepted, while Cain's is not is because it follows the pattern of sacrifice chosen by God. When Adam and Eve fell, God Himself made coats of skin for them, which required the sacrifice of a living animal, to cover them; this picture represents Christ's sacrifice and covering of us which is pleasing to God.

@@richardkasper5822 Be mindful of your words, the doctrine of the Trinity is that God has three persons (Father, Son, Spirit), and while they are distinct they are also One and have always been, and will always be. It is misguided to speak like they are serperated, or even sequential. Also, if you truely are a believer then you need to understand that the Bible as the Word of God has an Old and New testament for a reason. The Old paints pictures, metaphores and foreshadowings, that inform the articulation and direct speaking of the New Testament, but it is one speaking and is one Word. Christ did not replace the OT law, He fulfilled it so that He could be to us the reality of the law, because we could not and cannot meet the requirements of the law. All the sacrifices layed out in the law as given to Moses, relate is some way to the fullness of what Christ is to us, as NT believers. Today we don't need to sacrifice bulls, birds or anything else because Christ is the only sacrifice that eternally pleases the rightous requirement of the Father, thus the requirement of the law.

For me Jesus the sacrifice is secondary to the fact first Jesus chose to give his physicality on the cross. He was not forced in any way. The sacrificial point was choice because without choice there would no sacrifice on the cross. Choice is then reproduced by the fact that salvation can only be gained by choice. It cannot to robbed, bought or taken. It can only be received. That's a phenomenon in it's self. A guy called Neil Fulcher explains in the book 'Phenomenon' (Amazon) that it put us right in The Greatest Adventure Ever Experienced because we can travel to see Jesus today using our God given immortal soul and spirit 🌈🎱
That part at the end reminded me of something C.S. Lewis said about fairy tales. He said that when people are children, they love fairy tales and feel no shame in enjoying them - because they hold such possibility. Then there comes a time when children grow up and stop believing and reading fairy tales, and some adults remain in this stage. And then, you become old enough to cherish fairy tales again, and again, you read them with no shame.
