  • The next time you eat tamarind (Tamarindus indica), save the seeds. A new study suggests that tamarind seeds can improve your blood sugar and cholesterol levels. Additionally, researchers have shown that a protein found in tamarind seeds has antiviral properties. The flavor of the fruit might not be to everyone’s liking, but its benefits can make it far more appealing.
    This tropical evergreen tree is native to Africa, but it can now be found in places like Mexico, Australia, and South Asia. Pod-like fruits grow from these tall trees and, as they mature, they go from green and sour to brown and juicy with a sweet-and-sour pulp. It’s used in Indian cooking and also popular as a folk remedy. Tamarind seeds contain phosphorus, magnesium, vitamin c, potassium, calcium and amino acids.

    Thanks ...very informative thought I knew everything about them ...not so, popular in the Islands grew up with them .... become huge trees aquire taste, not for everyone. ..bitter almost salty taste, not to be costume in quantity ...careful, can be upsetting to the stomach ...seeds, are best boiled and water drunk. ..unless dried all but impossible to chew ....thanks for thoroughly explaining as always.
