    I have been incredibly self conscious about my speaking voice for over 25 years but after doing these exercises for only 3 days I am feeling a huge improvement.
    The video I watched before this on the same subject was a woman who suggested I should hug/love myself and accept that I have a lisp... but with this video and 3 days practicing once or twice a day I feel like a different person. Very impressed. Thank you

      Thank you for sharing your story Kane Jacobs. Keep up the practice. Essentially, you need to shift your focus away from the front of your mouth and your tongue and towards the back of the mouth. Have you tried my 'daily warm up exercises' video? You can also download the whole of this course for free: positivevoice.co.uk/vocal-impact-video-tutorials

      I think this is what im looking for. I have a rubbish voice, i just feel like there is something im not doing, your description of supporting your voice seems to have hit the nail on the head. I think if i become confident with my voice, it will massively help with my speech anxiety too.

    Amazing immediately you feel the difference in speech after doing this, I think my problem is that I have weak muscles in the jaw for a non native or that the air out way too much which makes me not able to stress or be as clear as much as I need to or want to so I resort to shouting or raising my voice , if i fix this weakness I believe I can sound very good for a non native, thank you very much, I am just striving to speak standard British English and not like a native but only adding to my own accent what fits to it from standard British cause I believe we should not copy accents we should be ourselves but have very good English with clarity. Again thanks.

    I've just done these exercises for the first time....and my mouth, jaw and throat ache! - just shows that Francesca is correct (i.e I have most likely never used them fully before!!) Will do these every day for the foreseeable future. I record bands, so am always around microphones - heard my voice recorded (unawares) and played back......i mumble and the words are not precise it seems........strange that hearing your own voice 'on tape' sounds nothing like it sounds 'in your head'!! Hoping to get my voice to have more impact.....at the moment, my words appear to be 'dropping-off' and 'falling-away' at the end of each sentence - I also speak too fast!!..........the work starts with this excellent vid - I can see myself enjoying the process. The exercises actually make you feel good (physically and mentally) after doing them! Will be recording myself reading a page of a novel twice a week or more, and noticing the difference. THANK YOU!!

    • @FransBritishAccent
      @FransBritishAccent  6 років тому +2

      Great; I'm so pleased to have helped. Just one word of caution; if you get a sore throat, it could mean that you are sending the sound too harshly over your vocal chords- be sure to stifle a smile slightly when speaking and to hum a little more gently if this is the case.

    • @FransBritishAccent
      @FransBritishAccent  6 років тому +4

      Hi Nits Kar, try stifling a smile whilst humming and you will feel the space where your voice should resonate for a British accent. You can also do some exaggerated chewing and humming (if you cand bring your jaw forwards as you chew, you will create more space in your throat and the hum should resonate there. Let me know how it goes.

      HI Frans....a million thanks i must say all 3 humming exercises are helping me a lot...i start my morning with lower jaw hum & stifle smile hum - 11 times each. Once my day starts for office while travelling i do the ho-hum. I want a great voice for fantastic conversations so that the ppl get a feel of my personality thru my voice tonality. Its giving me a lot of confidence as u said in your videos that once u are confident of what u speak..u become confident of yourself....i need some a video from you for voice eexcecises that i can do in office so that my voice tonality remains the same throught the day ..bcos ppl arnd become consicous of the humming....pls help...thank once again.

    • @FransBritishAccent
      @FransBritishAccent  6 років тому +1

      Hi Nits Kar, You can do them silently. Just expand the space where the hum would usually be. Other silent exercises: stifle a smile, stretch/deepen the back of the mouth like a cave. Please do let me know how it goes.

      @UrbanPhoenix247 7 років тому +12

      I have this problem, too.
      With my personal experiences, I came to find out it's not much of a physical thing (I.e. Tightness in the jaw, mouth etc.), but it's more about what's underneath. For example, "am I confident in this situation; am I introverted in that situation; or do I feel confident when I talk about this or say this word?"
      It's like a tree. The tree look big, but are the roots strong (the roots representing the unconscious; the cognitive, mental, emotional etc).
      I am having this problem to this day. What I suggest, though, is to find somewhere private and try express out any feelings that you may have bottled up. Like for instance, if you need to cry, or yell out or laugh loudly.

    I get very hoarse whenever I speak and exert my voice (usually over music or a loud restaurant) my vocal cords are easily strained and I cannot pronounce certain words or speak clearly no matter how hard I try. It really affect my self esteem and I end up talking low or avoiding participating in conversations. People slso have a habit of rephrasing me when I speak which just reinforces that I'm not speaking properly...any advice? I was born in Ilford, Essex but mostly raised in NY.

    • @FransBritishAccent
      @FransBritishAccent  6 років тому +1

      3 times a day would be ideal. Also aim to do an exercise (stifling a smile or a stretch) before making a phone call or any important meetings. If you have any soreness in the throat, it means that you need to use the muscles in the jaw more to support your voice more (stifle a smile). Don't over do the exercise where you lower the bottom jaw and hum if you have a cold or a sore throat.

      Maybe try to find things that are faster than what your able to keep up with like lyrics from a song or maybe someone writing faster than you or speaking quicker than you and try to maybe exercise your brain to speak like a robot when reading stuff maybe none of this makes any sense but like i said at first if you find something that's faster than you maybe it'll make you feel slower in some way.

    How to remove bed pronunciation?

  • @yashrathore2492
    @yashrathore2492 5 років тому +3

    My tongue doesn't move as freely as that of other people and I can't pronounce as clearly as others.. and I really want to speak clearly and confidently.. I face a lot of problems in simple conversations and sometimes it leads to negative thoughts like sucide.. People laugh at me, they think I am intentionally doing it.. I hate it.. Though I'm handsome, intelligent and very hardworking but only because of my speech, my whole personality is ruined. I can't express myself the way I want to. Please help me! I really need it.

      Hi Yash, i definitely recommend my 28 Day British Accent challenge. Even if you have a British accent, it will give you a very good understanding of my methodology: ua-cam.com/play/PLPez4yQUR795pqC6522yJFTo5uIpZE9Sq.html. Day 14 focuses on tongue positioning: ua-cam.com/video/HwShxJSXATg/v-deo.html&index=15&list=PLPez4yQUR795pqC6522yJFTo5uIpZE9Sq and i also teach my tongue strengthening exercise during day 27: ua-cam.com/video/Fm-Um_DrCvU/v-deo.html. Please do stay in touch and let me know how it goes.

      @@enochbenjamin6386 There are some really useful tongue exercises that you could do to strengthen your tongue. I would need more details in order to recommend specific exercises. Are there specific sounds you struggle to pronounce due to your tongue movements?

    • @FransBritishAccent
      @FransBritishAccent  5 років тому

      @@enochbenjamin6386 It could be related to other muscles in the mouth too, so i would recommend video 1 of my British accent challenge (warm up): ua-cam.com/video/sbhwdt6f5DQ/v-deo.html, Video 10 which focuses on the sounds t and d: ua-cam.com/video/p04JxBviIGM/v-deo.html and video 14 which looks at the sounds n and l: ua-cam.com/video/HwShxJSXATg/v-deo.html. Without examining your speech further, i can't give any more tips, but it is rarely one thing that reduces vocal clarity. The exercises found within these videos should be practiced daily for at least 3-6 months. You may also find it useful to practice them over a longer period of time.

    any tips for people who talk fast????

    • @FransBritishAccent
      @FransBritishAccent  5 років тому +2

      Yes, you need to work on your rhythm and melody. Most British speakers speak quite fast, but if you highlight the important words and syllables with your voice the message is still clear: britishaccentcoaching.positivevoice.co.uk/lead-magnet

    One thing you can do to speak more clearly is stop the "vocal fry". Which she does a lot in the beginning of the video:)
