Not all of them lip sync from what I understand. I've also heard some of them singing without autotune and they sound horrible which is probably why they use it. So fake. James Hetfield has a good natural singing and even screaming voice. Also, technically Metallica are heavy/thrash metal, not rock. Metal is literally in the name. LOL
Edit: they do have some hard rock in addition to heavy and alt metal on Load and Reload, but they're predominantly a metal band and always have been.

It's so odd watching Hetfield footage from the last decade or so compared to the decade previously. He's so open now and enjoying himself in a different way. Sobriety I suppose. Either way, it's cool to see. Some might not love Metallica's more recent stuff compared to the old, and that's natural. But the one cool thing about the latest runs of the band is Hetfield's openness and enthusiasm.

It's not a pickup selector, it's a built in preamp to get overdrive on his sound. But yeah, it was some kind of selector problem.

James plays solos that have a lot of emotion with great note selection. I'll take James solo over Chris Broderick or any of the sweeping arpeggio guitar nerds AND IM NIT JOKING
Jason Heavner James himself admits he isn’t a good soloist. However I think some of his solos are Metallica’s best.

1997... Interesting. This was about the time when most of their fans had turned their back on them. I guess those fans would've rather have Metallica put more inspiration into their music than into their stage acts.
