4:10 What is the reasoning behind jamming the back of the clawhammer between the bracket and the wood while screwing bolts in? Is some amount of space needed between them?
A planer was used by the manufacturer to smooth the columns which made them a little smaller than the brackets. Used the claw to make sure we initially didn't over tighten and bend the bracket. Once top and bottom were screwed in and bolted...we fully tightened.
Couple questions: You used what appear to be regular zinc plated hardware. Does that conflict with the pressure treated posts? You used stove bolts in some posts and regular bolts in others. Why?
Those are A325 (Grade 5) supplied with the brackets. We use the carriage type bolts on end post and garage openings. We suck the carriage head into the wood so the trims can sit flat on the posts.
Love your attention to detail Paul great work.

When lifting a section, could you not put a strap across the front which would help prevent breakage. Just a thought this Saturday morning.
