The best part about these interviews is the fact that Gary doesn't need to create a headline, it's just a free flowing chat, and that's what makes these interviews great
Gary's skill is that his self-deprecation allows his guest to let their guard down and speak honestly with vulnerability. This is what makes his podcasts and interviews so insightful and refreshing.

These interviews are exactly what we, as fans, want. Insight into our favorite players, free conversations, no pressure, relaxed atmosphere. Huge credit to Gary!
This was absolutely fantastic. You can tell Trent would sit and chat to Gary for hours about football and he isn't afraid to show that he is interested in knowing more about that United team during the 2000s when he was growing up. I really hope England use this guy as he's approaching his prime years, a special talent.
Gary is seriously the best at this. That was wholesome content for sure. Trent seems like a top lad! Enjoyed that to the fullest, they had good laughs as well, always good to see.

Yeah and considering how guarded Trent is normally (with good reasoning, considering he’s had a long term stalker trying to ruin his life) for him to have Gary in his home and open up completely to him is pretty special.
Gary Neville constantly downplays how good a player he actually was. That says a lot about his character. He’s got his flaws like the rest of us but intuitively you always get the feeling that he’s a genuinely good guy.
People see it as downplaying but I think he’s just being honest, the way he played full back compared to how full back is played now in a successful team is night and day, not to take anything away from him he was a great player, but he would definitely struggle in today’s game.
@@duckers5120 I never really understood these kind of points because if GNev was playing today he'd have been coached differently and been brought up playing different styles so it stands to reason he could play in the modern era.
@philbarton2832 I was thinking the same thing. His work rate and ethic would have pushed him to become an elite premier league player. He would probably be one of the best five right backs of today's football.
Fantastic interview. Loved how engaged Trent was with the whole process. What a gem. Props to Gary too for creating an atmosphere where Trent was able to speak freely.
That was amazing, well done Gary. Trent’s a really intelligent football mind - would love to see him as a pundit when its all done, super bright. Loved that interview, loved the questions trent had too, he’s clearly football mad

Very interesting to hear how Gary had anxiety before the games throughout his 600-game career and just kind of got on with it. When I saw him make his comeback last match, I thought that might make Liverpool fans more optimistic. Conor Bradley has been adequate but he’s too lightweight and untried. A fit Trent is like a beacon of hope for the last 7 or so games.
Great interview. Gary very self deprecating as always. Full back role has changed massively, but other positions, particularly centre midfield is less onerous than it used to be.
@TP-pq9xx disagree. I agree they are more athletic, but in the top leagues especially, roles are so defined, particularly in midfield and they are so over coached I don’t think many players actually do a lot of thinking on the pitch. Think they are told all their options and what should be available wherever they are on the pitch. I think players back in the 90s/00s had far better football brains than players now. It’s like more athletic robots playing the game now, 20 years ago they were proper footballers with a brain.
@TP-pq9xx they don’t “look” like they have better football brains, they clearly do. The standard is far worse now than it was 20 years ago. Look at centre forwards and centre backs back then to now. Other than Van Dijk, the centre halves of all top, sides would absolutely walk into any team now, same goes for centre forwards with the odd exception.
@@ruaraidhmorrison5879I can see what you're getting at but footballer's nowadays are much more all rounders and tactically superior, they're also much more fitter.
