You won`t regret stepping on the Harry Potter rollercoaster.
It is highly enriching. More than you can imagine.
The first movies contain a lot of story-building. The wizarding world is different and complex. The more engaged and informed you are the better it becomes.
In my family, three generations have read all the books and watched all the movies. The fourth generation is currently tipping their toe into the Potter world.
Harry Potter changed more than just one generation. The values JK Rowling has presented in the books have made many children better teenagers and adults.
Welcome to the HP Family, an embracing and loving world, worth becoming a part of - even if you`re late to the party.😊🧡

The reason most muggles don't see magic happening around them is sometimes attributed to protective spells having been placed on objects or places so that regular none magical folks can't see or notice them. For example, Hogwarts is a massive castle located in the highlands of Scotland. But when muggles come across it, they only see old ancient empty castle ruins. If muggles find themselves getting too close to it, then suddenly the muggles will start to think they have someplace important they have to go to that they previously forgotten about.
In rare other cases when a muggle happens to witness magic by mistake, the local wizarding government called The Ministry of Magic will come and magically erase that particular memory from the muggle's mind.
Certain cases are allowed only to a certain extent, like in the case of a wizard or witch having been born from a muggle family or is being raised by a muggle family like Harry and the Dursleys for example. But even then the wizarding child is not allowed to perform magic even in front of their muggle family even though their muggle family members know about their relative being born a witch or wizard and that they attend Hogwarts.
The Wizarding communities consider it vital that their existence remain a secret for their protection incase for example muggles decide to bring back the witch trials and start burning wizards at the stake again among many other reasons as well.

@TheReelPrescription Yep. I have read every one of them.
If you are ever curious to read them but can't find the time to do so, you can always listen to audiobooks. I used to do that at my old job at a theatrical Broadway costume company here in New York City where I live. I used to cut the costumes out as I listened to the Harry Potter books on my Walkman, back in the day. LOL!
There are two versions of the audiobooks. The British version has Stephen Frey doing the reading. The American version has Jim Dale. I prefer Jim Dale. He was fantastic. Every character has a different voice. Well worth the listen.

I'll say again, JK Rowling put a lot of thought into everything, including the character names.
Harry's living with his mother's sister's family (there's a practical reason, which will come out later).
Harry's mom is named 'Lily' and the aunt is named 'Petunia'. In Victorian Flower Language (a historically real thing; google it), 'Lily' means 'purity/loving'; 'Petunia' means 'anger/resentment'.
For that matter, Professor Quirrell's first name is 'Quirinus'. Quirinus was a pre-Roman god who also went by the name 'Janus', from where we get the month 'January'. Both were unique in having two faces, one looking to the past and the other looking to the future.
Scratch the name of many of the Harry Potter characters and you will find fascinating insights into them.

Welcome to the incrediblely wonderful rabbit hole of a ride called the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Enjoy it well. 😊
    This is the song that the Sorting Hat sings in the book version of Sorcerer's Stone/Philosopher's Stone before he sorted the first year's students into their houses;
"Oh you may not think I'm pretty,
But don't judge on what you see,
I'll eat myself if you can find
    A smarter hat than me.
You can keep your bowlers black,
Your top hats sleek and tall,
For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
And I can cap them all.
There's nothing hidden in your head
    The Sorting Hat can't see,
So try me on and I will tell you
    Where you ought to be.
    You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
    Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
    Set Gryffindors apart;
    You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
    Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
    And unafraid of toil;
Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
    if you've a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
    Will always find their kind;
    Or perhaps in Slytherin
    You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
    To achieve their ends.
So put me on! Don't be afraid!
And don't get in a flap!
You're in safe hands (though I have none)
    For I'm a Thinking Cap!"
    🧙‍♂️🧙‍♀️🪄✨⚡🖤
BTW, I was sorted into Gryffindor and my brother was sorted into Slytherin in the Pottermore (now called Wizarding World) official website. The website was created by the Sony company and the author of the Harry Potter books, JK Rowling. I had to take a fun and special personality test to find out what house I am in.

Quidditch has 7 players in each team.
    3 Chasers
    2 Beaters
    1 Keeper
    1 Seeker
The Chasers are in charge of scoring goals by catching the Quaffle balls and throwing them into one of 3 hoops at the other team's side of the field. Beaters are in charge of protecting their players from getting hit by the Blugger balls with wooden bat's. They are also in charge of hitting the opposing team with the bluggers by using their bats. The Keeper's job is to protect their team's hoops by not allowing the opposing team to score any goals by blocking the Quaffle and preventing it from getting through their hoops.
The Seeker's job is to find the Snitch and catch it before the other team does. Once the Snitch is caught, then the game ends.
You Don't necessarily win when you catch the snitch. Yes, the snitch is 150 points, and the game does end when the snitch is caught. But the team that catches the snitch can lose the game if the opposing team had already gained far more points prior to the snitch being caught. So it's important to score as many points as possible with the Quaffle and hoops before any seeker of any team catches the snitch, causing the game to end. Unfortunately, they never show it in any of the Harry Potter movies (so this is not a spoiler to any future Potter movies) but in one of the books Harry witnesses a certain team loose a certain Quidditch match dispite that team's Seeker having caught the snitch.
BTW, did you know that people became such a massive fan of the fictional sport of Quidditch that college students made it into a real-world international sport that is played in real colleges all over the world. Players compete with broomstick between their legs, and the snitch is a person (dressed in gold with a handkerchief tucked into his or her's belt) running around all over the place. The seeker has to catch the person playing as the snitch by grabbing onto the handkerchief and pulling it off the snitch's body. You can do a UA-cam search and view a few matches played in different countries. I have seen 2 or 3 Quidditch matches in person back in the day. Tons of fun.
If you ever want to know how Quidditch is played and its fictional history the author of Harry Potter, JK Rowling, also wrote other books for charities. One of them is called Quidditch Through the Ages, and it is written as if it were one of Harry Potter's text books.

Welcome to The Wizarding World rabbit hole that is Harry Potter.
The best thing about the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone, to me is that the chambers following the third-floor corridor containing Fluffy each play to the strengths of Harry, Ron and Hermione.
The Devil's Snare chamber caters to Hermione's knowledge of spells.
The room with the winged keys caters to Harry's skill with quidditch.
And the chess room caters to Ron's knowledge of how to play chess.
    Side notes:
The Sorting Hat chooses new students' houses based on their corresponding personality traits:
    Gryffindor-Bravery, helping others, and chivalry.
Hufflepuff-Hard work, patience, loyalty, and fair play.
    Ravenclaw-Intelligence, knowledge, and wit.
    Slytherin-Ambition, cunning and resourcefulness.
Erised (The Mirror of Erised) is the word desire spelled backward.
Hedwig is a snowy owl. They have ruffled wing feathers to silence their flight so prey animals don't hear them coming. They also have natural camouflage due to their coloration, and they're the only birds who don't have bare feet due to their habitats, like the Arctic Tundra.
At the time of the deaths of Lily and James Potter at the hands of Voldemort, Harry was only 15 months old.

They get better and better, wait until you get to movie 3! They stay age appropriate for the age of the characters, so as each year at Hogwarts comes and goes, the storyline gets more mature. Also a good way to remember Harry's age is to put a 1 in front of the movie number. Movie 1 he's 11, movie 2 he's 12, and so on. I'm looking forward to more reactions, enjoy!

The train station is King's Cross Station in London not a set. In fact, the location is specifically mentioned in the books.
The entrance into the chess game was filmed several months before the game itself. In the intervening time, Rupert Grint experienced a growth spurt, The decision was made to have Ron ride the knight in order to minimize the difference in height between the three actors.
'Longbottom' is a surname based on a geographical feature. 'Bottom', in this case, is an archaic word for a valley. Ergo, some of Neville's ancestors must have lived in or near a long valley, and took the surname 'Longbottom' to differentiate themselves from other people with the same given names.
It's not made clear in the movies, but Harry has to return to the Dursley's home during the summer. Since his Aunt Petunia is his only blood relative, being there provides some extra protection against Voldemort's attempts to kill Harry.
Fun Fact: Martin Bayfield, who stands 6'10", was Robbie Coltrane's body double for Hagrid.

Something I caught in another HP reaction in another comment:
If you live in a 'long bottom', you have to travel a long ways in shadow to leave the valley, because the terrain blocks sunlight from reaching the valley's depth
JK Rowling crafted/selected most characters' names to match details about the character, so it makes sense that Neville's last name is 'Longbottom'. His character is in shadow for at least half of the franchise/books because of his family circumstances. He's in shadow because he's so inconsequential, because he's so lacking in confidence, and because he can't find his footing. It's a brilliant name for him.

Speaking of growth spurts: Hogsmeade station is represented by Goathland station on North Yorkshire Moors heritage railway. The producers only chartered the location for one day; the very first day of principal shooting.
Thus, the very first scene shot is the train leaving Hogsmeade in the morning, and the second scene shot is the train arriving ten months earlier, shot the same evening.
Reactors do a double take when seeing the first scene in the 2nd movie, where Harry is supposedly only a month older but it was shot a full year, or more later.

The book, when talking about the troll in the dungeon, said something to the affect from that day on the three were fast friends, always together. One of the conditions (by J. K. Rowling, the books' author) for selling the movie rights to Warner Brothers was that it was a British book, the actors had to be British. They agreed. There is what amounts to British acting royalty on parade in these films. The books and movies progress into darker material as these youngsters grow up, with the villain becoming more and more involved. Its an amazing journey that had millions of kids reading again for pleasure. I'm all for that.

If you check out Harry's clothes at the start of the film, they are ill-fitting. It's because the Dursleys refuse to waste a penny on Harry. So, Harry's left wearing Dudley's hand-me-downs and using tape to hold his broken glasses together rather than get them properly repaired or replaced.
Good catch on Verne Troyer [RIP] playing the goblin Griphook!
The voice is provided by Warwick Davis, who plays the bank teller they approach entering the bank and also the aged Professor Flitwick who teaches levitation. (In later filming, the makeup gets a considerable upgrade, making Professor Flitwick look much younger.)
Griphook makes another appearance late in the franchise and is played by Warwick Davis.
Hagrid looks so big because he's a half-giant.
Giants are related to trolls, so they are not a lot smarter and a lot bigger, on average standing 20 feet tall.
Most half-giants run about 10 feet in height, but Hagrid's wizard father was very short statured, so Hagrid is only about 8 foot.
Hagrid inherited his father's magic capacity and enough intelligence to read (and spell badly); he also inherited his father's kind heart.
Filch's cat is just an ordinary cat, but a cat with red eyes. Filch is a self-appointed hall monitor, keeping a watch on students breaking curfew and other rules; his cat 'assists' him in this endeavor.
The staircases changing randomly may be due to security reasons.
Muggles are an extreme danger to the Wizarding World. Historically, they don't understand magic or trust anyone with any kind of power, magical or otherwise, so muggles' first impulse is to kill the magic-capable. Their second impulse is to exploit them for their own benefit. As a result, the Wizarding World has to keep themselves hidden just to survive. Whole families and even villages have died because muggles suspected or fully found out.
The Ministry of Magic grew out of a need to protect the community.
The randomly-moving staircases make assault on Hogwarts very difficult; very hard for muggles to chase anyone when the stairs keep changing. Plus, it teaches the young ones to pay attention to their surroundings and anticipate change.
Magic is a vital force. As a result of wizards/witches channeling magic power, that vital force provides certain physical benefits.
-Wizards/witches are more resilient than muggles to normal trauma. Their bodies are stronger, so it takes greater force to cause injury. Healing is quicker and there is rarely a scar. Because of this, wizards/witches are less likely to be afraid of heights or any risky activity. If anything, risk is sought out and pride taken in how risky an activity or occupation is undertaken.
-Wizards/witches are immune to most pathogens. While there are a few uncomfortable, disruptive, or even deadly diseases wizards/witches are prone to, they are not common, and research goes on for potions or spells to ward off or stop them.
-Wizards/witches enjoy greater longevity than muggles. The average lifespan for a muggle is about 75 years; for wizards/witches it's 150 years.
-Wizards/witches may be resistant to natural injuries, but injuries arising from magical cause are a different matter. There is no guarantee of healing, there will be scarring, and there can also be loss of use or attachment of body parts. Harry's lightning bolt scar is the result of a curse. As the franchise goes on, you'll see other evidence of damage from intentional or accidental magic force.
Quidditch is a sport invented by a female writer who doesn't follow sports. She invented a game that gives you a sense of what sports looks like to someone who doesn't understand sports or their rules. What does come across about quidditch is how there's almost a 'ballet' effect of players guarding the goal, players attempting to score, players obstructing the opposition roughly, and yet the length of play is determined by a 'seeker' on each team. There are no breaks for any reason, including weather, and length of play can be mere minutes or stretch out for days.
The golden snitch awards 150 points, but the seeker needs to stay aware not only of players (especially the abusive players) but also whether your team's points when added to 150 points for catching the snitch will run you over or under the opposing team's score. If Team A has racked up 180 points and Team B racks up 20 points, Team B won't want to catch the snitch until the score increases to an advantage. Catching the snitch ends the game, and Team B's 20+150=170 points means losing to Team A's 180 points.
John Williams scored the first three films and subsequent scores incorporated the music in later films.
The Ministry of Magic underwrites most of the expenses of schooling: dormitories, linens, meals, staff, major expenses and supplies. Students and their families are responsible for personal supplies: robes, wands, cauldrons, pets/familiars, most textbooks, and a few supplies. For the Ministry of Magic, standardization of skills and knowledge are a benefit to the Wizarding World. Also, the Wizarding World is a small enough community that having the children study together familiarizes them with the whole of the community members.
There is a mechanism in Hogwarts that senses children's first spontaneous expression of magic capacity. This occurs by about ten years of age, initiated by strong emotions. The child's name and address is documented and the Ministry of Magic alerted. The Ministry then attaches the Trace, which keeps the Ministry apprised of any further magic occurring by or in the presence of that child. The Ministry monitors this activity not just to protect the child, but also to protect the Wizarding World community from muggles becoming aware of magic-users.
All First Years enter school 11 years of age on the first day of the term. It then follows that on the first day of subsequent terms all Second Years are 12, all Third Years are 13, and so on.
The final year of schooling are for 17 year olds as Seventh Years. Technically, at 17 they are legal adults in the Wizarding World; they cannot be forced to stay in school (though nearly all do finish their education) and they are able to enter their profession and/or take part in really dangerous activities.
The franchise is spaced out by school year, just like the books. So, the first film they begin the year at 11 years old, the second film they're 12, and so on. Note: Hermione's birthday is in September (the character is the oldest, the actress is the youngest), Ron's is in March, and Harry's is July 31st. (Neville's is July 30th).
Please note: The Houses are based on specific values, not skills or characteristics. If you google the Houses, they will tell you what the core values of each House are.
And Slytherin is not the 'evil House'; it's just that the core values of Slytherin House make one prone to cutting corners and making bad decisions. For most Slytherins, it's the results that are important, not the means. But wise Slytherins come to understand the means can impact and skew the results. Ron's statement that "There's not a witch or wizard who went bad who wasn't in Slytherin"; actually, Professor Quirrell was a Ravenclaw.
If it was skills or characteristics that set which House you were in, Hermione would be in Ravenclaw instead of Gryffindor. But she tells Harry, "Books and cleverness. There are more important things: friendship and bravery"; friendship, loyalty, courage are all Gryffindor core values.
Chris Columbus directed the first two films of the franchise; it's said he is particularly good at directing children, and reports back from the kids is that they really loved working with him.

What I thought was interesting is how Harry was so occupied with trying to solve a problem he didn’t get time to ruminate and understand the fact that he’s a wizard , well it might be in the books but I the movie still works because it’s great pacing. Non-spoiler answers to your questions/comments made in the video:
    - The trio (Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson) all originally signed on for four films I believe. From what I've heard, they actually strongly considered not renewing their contracts, especially Emma, but ultimately decided to renew them and continue playing the characters.
    - Yes, the owls were real!
    - 9:41 Fun fact: the actor who played Dudley is named Harry Melling, so I always chuckle a little when Hagrid addresses him as Harry lol.
    - 12:52 You're right! That was Verne Troyer. RIP 😞
    - I believe the train station scenes were indeed filmed on location.
    - Mrs Norris (the cat that chased them before the first time they found Fluffy) isn't a teacher, she's a real cat. She belongs to the caretaker, Mr Filch, and the pair of them love getting students into trouble, which is why the trio run away from her.
    - People actually do play Quidditch in real life! Obviously the actual . . . /flying/ part isn't doable, and the balls don't fly themselves. They use a volleyball for the Quaffle, dodgeballs for the Bludgers, and a tennis ball for the Snitch.
    - Fun fact number 2: Norbert is actually a girl! They call her Norberta. This is technically a spoiler, but we don't find that out in the movies, only the 7th book, so you wouldn't have found out from watching the movies anyway.
    - There's a reason Harry has to keep returning to the Dursleys' house . . . but I can't tell you why yet, spoilers!

@@TheReelPrescription Mrs Norris, Argus Filch's cat, is named after a character in a Jane Austen novel. Rowling said she named Mrs Norris from a character in Mansfield Park, who is similarly odious and is hanging around in the background a lot.
Note: 'Argus' was the “all-seeing” 100- eyed giant in Greek mythology, a servant of Hera. Hera put Argus to 'keeping an eye on Zeus', her husband, so she would know if he was cheating on her. Having 100 eyes, at any time only 50 were closed sleeping while the other 50 were awake watching. When Argus was killed, Hera placed his eyes on the tailfeathers of her signature bird, the peacock. The peacock has been used for centuries as a living 'alarm system' because they make a racket when anyone invades their territory.
This matches Argus Filch's obsessive attention to students being out of bed or in areas they shouldn't be.

Ah, esteemed interlocutor, I beseech thee to indulge my proclivity for verbosity as I unravel the intricate tapestry that is the art of reaction! Pray, lend thine ears to this erudite discourse on the do's and don'ts of responding to the myriad stimuli that life presents!
Indeed, one might be astonished to discover that the apparently spontaneous act of reacting is, in fact, a complex dance of premeditated planning and emotional alchemy! Who would have thunk that the ephemeral nature of our responses necessitates a scaffolding of preparation akin to the meticulous drafting of a sacred script, reminiscent of the grandiose plays of the Bard himself?
As I reminisce upon the sage wisdom of the ancients, it becomes abundantly clear: to navigate the vast sea of reactions, one must first chart their course through the murky waters of expectations and preconceived notions! Gaze upon the canvas of cinematic experiences yet to be traversed! Imagine, if you will, a hitherto unseen film waiting patiently in the shadows, mirroring the fabled journey of Odysseus encountering the unknown!
Ah, but next time, perchance thou shalt take up the quill and parchment, scripting thy responses with meticulous care, allowing as much room for spontaneity as the etchings on the Delphic Oracle’s cryptic inscriptions! Embrace the art of improvisation and amalgamate it with the foresight of a theatrical production! For in this sacred synthesis lies the true mastery of the reactive arts!
So, let us ready our mental scrolls for the impending showcases, where reactions shall be not merely reflexes but well-crafted soliloquies echoing through the annals of cinematic history!

A good reaction is like being a good conversationationalist. If you just sit there nodding your head and just speak the same lines in a British accent… without engaging with the content in an interesting, genuine way, then a it’s a waste of my time as viewer.
But obviously I’m just one viewer who def won’t be watching another reaction… but the best to you! You’re free to take my feedback seriously or just write a silly limerick. He obviously wasn't really into the first half of the movie and his repetitive mocking of the British accent was, frankly, irritating. I came close to backing out. Fortunately, as I suspected, he eventually got drawn into the story line and, though the occasional comment on the accent continued, his reaction became more engaged. -- Regarding his 'long ass comment: um... Good try, sir. As a fellow sesquipedalian I can appreciate the fine art that is expressive composition, save when it is merely used to confuse and evade just criticism. As eloquent and erudite as your response was, it failed to address the core issue or even acknowledge the opinion expressed. -- But enough said. I am looking forward to the next reaction in the series, while also hoping for something with a little more depth. It can take a while to get into the series, so I can forgive this faux pas.
