yeah i think its captured that jupiter vibe but obviously not exact as i think they have taken a few short cuts because it would be extremely hard to capture that raw sound and filter but cant complain when this synth is priced so cheap.
I had it too when it first came out. A guitarist bandmate said years later that that particular JP-4 had its own sound, that it was a special one. Hard to model that. But I'm going to get this one for old times' sake.
Excellent review. Very similar to the sound of the Jupiter-4 I heard as a teenager. The resonance nuances in particular are very similar. I will surely buy this plug-in.
If you’re gonna get someone to demo stuff and build a channel, you could not have picked better than Mylar! Awesome grungy filthy lo-if demo. This is the Mercury-4 demo to avoid if your wallet is empty….
I subscribed as soon as I saw this channel because your stuff is amazing. Paused at 4:37 and bought this thing. Fantastic sound... I have some other CA synths and they're equally as impressive. This is a GREAT demo though.
10:45 sounds totally like the kind of freakishness Vangelis was doing on "Beaubourg", which incidentally came out the same year J-4 did. What a lovely presentation of a cool plugin, thank you!
This has now led us down a rabbit hole of listening to Beauborg, so thank you! What a wild album. Suspect it might be the CS-80 as you can hear so much ring modulation which the JP4 can't do, though the fast LFO modulation gets you into that territory! Maybe he had a JP4 as well?
Just bought this plugin ,just have to have it along with the DCO-06.Cherry Audio is sick I love the fact I don't need the hardware clutter in my studio either.♥️🗽🛸
Thanks Kevin! We agree, it's a brilliant time to be into soft synths. CPU load wasn't bad at all, though Cherry Audio recommend having a Quad Core CPU, and obviously if you increase the voice count to 16 that adds extra demand! Definitely recommend grabbing the demo to try it on your computer first.
@@Gear4musicSynthsTech : I bought it yesterday. It sounds very good. Have to say it’s at least as hard on my i7 cpu (maybe more) than the Roland Cloud instruments are. Great purchase and looks and sounds way better than the $39 asking price. Waiting for new models from Cherry Audio. Maybe a Prophet 5 or a Roland vintage string machine like my RS-09! Hint hint.
Hola!
Saludos
If only Roland (or someone) would come out with a hardware joystick so I wouldn't have to use these horrible two wheels for pitch and mod. Just a free-standing joystick controller like I've had on every synth since 1978. Even the Korg T1 had a decent stick. Wheels - argh!
The Minimoog has a lot to answer for! In the meantime, there are some software projects that turn USB gaming joysticks into MIDI controllers that might be worth hunting out, or Roland themselves do make MIDI controllers with bender joysticks on them: www.gear4music.com/Keyboards-and-Pianos/Roland-A-49-MIDI-Controller-Keyboard-Black/MNT
I owned a real J4 - this VST has the same magic in it! Absolutely fascinating!

An illuminating demo showcasing the capabilities and the tune at the end really takes me back to the early eighties. Well done.

Both the Mercury-4 and Mercury-6 are fantastic.

Cherry Audio has several cool synths.I am definitely getting this.

Thanks for such a fun and detailed walkthrough!
Having demoed a couple of cherry audio vsts, this is the first one I went ahead a purchased.
Great demo, Mylar on the channel is an instant subscribe

Vangelis may have used the JP-4 on The «China» album.
The Mercury 4 sounds amazing. Something about that raw osc.
Totally agree. This is one of those synths that sounds great doing even just simple things.
Excellent demo. Sounds amazing! 👍
Thanks Neil! Sometimes the simplest synth makes the biggest impact, right?

Sounds great. Definitely has that J4 vibe.
Thanks so much Jamie! Definitely.
Nice Demo, sounds superb - bought !
The Mercury 6 is also a blast. Do you have any of the patches you created for this demo?
Hey! How could a beginner learn about creating music using those synths ? Is there some video series that I could follow to get me started ?
Fantastic sounding and thorough demo! Software sounds almost like the real thing nowadays. How is the CPU hit on this one?

fantastic sounding vst
It is worth every penny!
Excellent and dope track
What is that music at 1:00 I need to hear more please. 🤘
Is this better than the DCO -106 in the sense of easier to program new sounds?
Would be insane if behringer clones the hardware

We’ve just told Mylar and he’s kicking himself. You officially win the internet today. 👏
Dude!
love the track.
Hola ! Como sincronizas los arpegiadores con el tiempo bpm adecuado. No puedo encontrar el tiempo como en otros vst sinths. Alguien sabe ?

Cheap steppy filter says all you need to know about this synth under the hood.
If the filter steps in 2022, the dev should have stopped in 1992...
