Veteran collector and grader here: use a high intensity LED light when pre-grading your cards. Certain types of wear are almost impossible to see without high intensity light. In particular, micro-indents, corner separation, and holo print-lines are often overlooked by inexperienced collectors. Regardless of the grades, it's always exciting to see a returns video!
I use a blacklight pen flashlight. I bought it for Amazon. It was 2 for $12. Note I bought one before those and it didn’t work the well. I think with the right blacklight you can see any whiting. Even the smallest spots. I would get a jewelers loop too.
@@Rinickulous1106 The big three are equally "fair" but also imperfect and emphasize certain conditional elements over others. PSA is the most widely embraced and generally has the best return when selling. However, PSA grades surface more strictly, especially for vintage. CGC is often stricter on cut (edges) and has two tiers of 10's: Gem Mint and Pristine. BGS is extremely difficult to grade in 10's and anything below a BGS 8 is basically a roulette wheel.
When sending cards in for grading, you only want to send off cards you believe will get a 9 or a 10, be harsh and vigilant when you decide what to send, if you see a nick, they will see a nick too, dont send it, any whitening any corner damage etc even a print line will downgrade the card, the key is to become a harsh pre grader of your own cards. Otherwise sell it raw and save the hassle! Cool vid bro 🎉
I haven't graded with PSA yet, I've done ags, bags, and cgc. You probably want to pre grade the cards better, like surface scratches on the back of the card like streak lines stand out. That's what I've noticed why I got a bunch of 9s. Even personal pulls were sleeved immediately, I made the mistake of using those art sleeves that come with etbs instead of the clear penny sleeves. For some cards...but I think that's why you didn't get many 10s. If you review the back of the cards better under sunlight or even using a flashlight you can see lines/streaks. Either way I loved the video, thnx for taking the time and good luck selling some of those cards
Love the idea of grading childhood cards. I honestly wish I wasn’t a dumb child and sold them all at a garage sale. I wouldn’t have minded grading my childhood zard and legendary birds. Love these bulk psa reveal videos! Great content my dude!
trust me i got all mine stolen i often feel that feeling in my gut when seeing some old cards prices that i used to have. it made me not want to collect again but i just started again this year. a couple of friends started collecting and im happy its one of my hobbies again
@@binsteez8881 thats amazing!!! Not that you feel that sadness for the cards you had when you were younger. But great you decided to start collecting again. I started at the WRONG time, 2020, in the hype of it all. lol But havnt looked back and have been having so much fun collecting all the vintage cards I sold away as a kid. And now collecting new pokemon sets, and trying my hand at master sets now.
Grading cards seems to have a steep learning curve, but good for you for encapsulating your childhood collection. Awesome opportunity for your viewers if they found the Easter egg in this video. Thanks!
Just like my old retro games, I gave away my childhood Pokemon collection when I was a kid. That second Gyarados would be fun add to the three cards I did keep!
It really is inconsistent. Plenty of videos breaking it down. The workers are paid pretty low and get like 1 minute per card so they just rush through this stuff. It's seriously a borderline scam
You dont know what youre talking about and spreading misinformation. Stevie was very inexperienced and didn’t take surface into account. Every time he said a card wasn’t centered or was centered he was almost always wrong through the video. I vette my cards very hard and i consistently get back about 80-90% gem mints. It was a learning curve and took me many submissions before i started to take everything into account.
Makes me wanna send all my cards in now love how they look in the slabs. I just recently got back into collecting again. Wish I knew what happened to my child hood cards. Thanks for the vid! I wouldn't mind that psa 8 stain glass birds XD GZ on two 10s on those.
I got into the Pokemon games a couple years ago. I started collecting the games all the way back to ds days. That made me start buying packs of cards and opening I sleeved only the rare holos and better and gave the rest of the cards away to my son and his friends that wanted the cards. I have over 1000 cards I want to grade. I need to sit down and go through them all and pick the best cards that should get a 10 but psa is hit or miss. My friend has graded a ton of cards and he has cracked open slabs to get them regraded cause the card should have gotten a 10 and received 8s or 9s. Guess it all depends on who’s checking the cards and if they are in a good mood or not.
The way grading works does seem inconsistent but it really is when it comes to PSA or beckett. It's not just an overall score based on perfection but based on comparison. Say all Charizards were slightly misprinted to the left. You could still get a 10 because there is no truly perfect centered cards period that we're printed perfectly aligned. At least that's what I've heard but I'm not a card grader so take that with a grain of salt
love seeing the lower priced childhood cards being graded as well! A lot of the rough grades from PSA though. I personally like CGC more, but still love to see the hobby thriving!
PSA has never given me a sketchy score. I've seen SOOOOO many of my friend's PSA 6-7s get cracked because they looked perfect and got CGC 10s... Every single one of them that we sent... If you get below a 9 and it looks much better, crack it and send it to CGC
It’s crazy your channel is about side hustles, and it’s only now that you decided to grade some of your collection Been debating doing the same so this was insightful
Insane to see how inconsistent the grading from psa can be, I definitely feel you when you said if the psa grader is having a bad day he can grade the card whatever he feels, definitely would be great if it were done by ai or if the card had to be graded by 2 psa graders and then that’s the only way it can be scored so one person having a bad day can’t ruin your life by giving your card a bad grade. Thanks for the great video first time watcher!
I refuse to grade cards until there is some guidelines and accountability. Grades mean nothing to me especially PSA. They are the worst for not giving cards the grade they deserve.
It is amazing you were able to get 6-8's on your childhood collection. I'd be very surprised if a single card I had before my teens could rate anything higher than a 3. Nice!
Nothing against Stevie at all, amazing content. For the peeps, like me, who have an old binder you've had since 96 chock full of old pokemon cards, you're probably not in a position to spend the hundreds of dollars to get them graded if your goal is to sell them. With a good chance of spending more money than what they're actually worth. Just try and 'grade' them as best you can, comparing your cards to others, and just sell them.
I feel like they were a little too harsh on a few of these cards. Pretty brutal. But you got some awesome cards though! I agree that the stained glass cards is so sick!
Says dragonite 1999 Pokemon game promo, the ancient mew was the promo for the Pokemon movie. Chancey is one of the hardest to grade Pokemon cards and modern cards are a lot more lenient than vintage cards for sure.
Use AGS Grading for most accurate AI grading and rating. Also tip, in holos look for scratch/print lines and even if the card is nice, if there’s a bent - auto 6 or lower
loved the video man, been thinking about sending some cards in, so it was nice to see what to expect on a grading perspective. you were on a roll guessing those card grades though. keep up the good work and amazing videos brother !
Glad you enjoyed it! I had a hard time posting a 40min video since I'm so used to shorts but I'm trying to challenge myself to post more raw stuff like this!
Only dealers get 10 grades. It's a pay to play program where those who submit lots regularly get the higher grades. Same goes with sports cards, coins etc.
Did you get the missing card back yet? I'm asking because I've seen so many dudes making videos talking about how PSA robbed them for shit I will never send anything to those scumbags just off principle. I can't let something like that slide so to save myself a charge I'll go through 1 of the others.
I’ve watched every single one of your vids and love them all Stevie, even watched this vid all the way threw and I don’t really even like Pokémon anymore🤣🤣 would love the Gyarados Card tho from u signed🙏
They are making sure you don't make any money with the $20 per card. Idk if they also make you pay for shipping back. CGC is the way to go. Plus they got the pristine black label PSA could only dream of.
you should crack that kogas ninja trick and send it in again , i've seen a guy that got 2 psa 5s on 2 screaming pikachus and they were perfect condition, and he resubmitted them and got 2 10s
I feel like grading is overly expensive for what it is. Not to mention, you could potentially lose money on the return if you figure in grading cost, shipping etc. I do love getting the cards back tho lol. We’re in the wrong business!
I appreciate your appreciation. You kept me company during my whole lunch break. Good stamina with the long form video. I would love a Shadowless Gyarados!
You will probably never see this but if you grade with TAG you would have alot of your complaints resolved there have an in depth slider and ding report that tells you everything wrong with your cards check it out! Ps there slabs are beautiful.
So in your opinion. Was it worth the 1500 to get the 9 on the important ones, the money maker cards.. i feel like you got ripped off on some of those gradings.

Love this! No matter what the score, it’s important to get these vintage cards protected. 10s are obviously hard to come by but this is a cool video!
Appreciate the opportunity! So cool seeing cards from my youth also!

Just like my old retro games, I gave away my childhood Pokemon collection when I was a kid. That second Gyarados would be fun add to the three cards I did keep!
The best money making scheme I saw in this video was this PSA grading bull. $1500 for something less consistant than a schizophrenia ward.

Hold your cards at all different angles in bright lighting to pick up on surface condition issues and avoid those 7s and below
the machamps were sold as individual promos so if have one still in the plastic wrap theyre worth a ton
Great cards no matter the condition.

I'm not gonna lie, you got a really tough grader. So many modern 9's that would grade 10's a lot of the time.

This was a tough grader. OR you had dents. Dents can be very small and hard to catch, but psa will catch them every time and dock serious points
Your machamp is shadowless though which is more rare would of been $$$ in a 10
gyarados is my all time favorites! love the content!
Love the collection too bad you couldn’t get better scores, but that’s the gamble.
I play MTG but i like the art of Pokemon cards better. I only collect dittos :P
You shouldve seperated them straight away so you could easily see a total.scpre on all the graded cards. Cool vid though!
I've always wanted a PSA graded card, would love a gyradios
Hard to make money unless it is a PSA 10 or 9 pretty much for all the cards
Nines are good but not amazing they can go for a bit but not nearly as much as 10s
If it sells more by itself can you always cut the plastic and get the card?
Interesting I'm going with GRAAD instead :)
