An excellent review of scraping Sam. I think you covered basic scraping quite well. I hope the newbies catch onto this channel soon. It will be well worth their time. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
I always scrape never cut, if you cut and make a mistake you have to start again, after scraping i use a rasping file sandpaper and so on. In trade school I was laughed at for scraping but the finished product always perfect.
Thank you very much for your comment, it helps me understand where some Woodturners are coming from. It is all complicated. And there is a risk with whatever we do, including how to cut with a gouge. I have my opinion about this that I have developed over 35 years of Turning. Learning to cut does take time and there is a risk. But in my opinion, there is nothing that produces a cleaner or better surface than cutting with a gouge thanks Sam.
Sam, I notice you’re using a Robust tool handle. I have two of them and find them a little lightweight. Is it just that I’m used to heavier handles? What is your experience with them?
I do not use any of the wooden robust handles. Although I’ve sold a few. All of the wooden handles that you see me using, I have made. But I do agree they are not very heavy. It might be better for lighter, smaller tool, steel, Sam.
