Just have a plan to deal with water run off in the winter. You will have a giant ice rink under a heat pump.
Don't know about -20 but mine is programmed to switch to propane heating once it goes below Zero Celsius. As for the bill, well I'm not really too concerned about that.
As someone who did building science at uni, NO THEY CAN'T.
We’ve had one for 14 years, but it’s connected to our furnace, through piping from outside. We already heat with forced air electric. It works just as well below 40c as above 40c. But the unit they are talking about looks like it’s portable or not connected to your furnace. So maybe they don’t work as well.
These can't handle extreme cold, I personally know someone that bought one and they need to use ridiculously expensive electric heaters when it gets very cold out...
From my own personal experience with heat pumps, if you are thinking of getting one...DON'T. If you are thinking of buying a house that already has one...DON'T! You've been warned!
