  • Sam looks at the Comfort rest, the Low Profile rest, and the Shear scraping rest made by Robust Tools LLC. Each one of his 3 Robust Lathes exhibits a full range of Low profile tool rests. He shows off the geometry of these tool rests, compares them to one another and shows how they might be used in various turning situations.

Good info Sam. I have bought two sizes of the low profile Robust tool rests for my Oneway 1640 Lathe. I like the make up of the rest as it does not nick as quickly as the Oneway rests.
    Take care
    Cheers

Sam; excellent video. I just received the 14" J Robust tool rest and love the extra security it provides when I'm working on vases, hollow forms, and the inside bottom of deeper bowls. They are expensive, but worth it. I think the old saying goes buy once, cry once. Thanks and keep the videos rolling.

New Robust AB driver here (2 weeks now) and I have been eyeing the shear cutting rest for a few years-- not Robust's version. I put one in my Robust shopping cart this weekend, along with some other essentials. This morning while poking around in my shoppe, I stumbled upon the Robust rest-- seems that I DID order one earlier this Spring, after all-- along with one of their larger negative rake scraper. Now I need to make up another handle, too!

I've got low profile rests on both of my big lathes and wouldn't have it any other way. Robust makes the best rests out there.
Great explanation. I wondered what the other rests were used for. Thanks Sam!
    Take care, Dave

Good treatment of this topic. I was always curious about the different profiles of the tool rests on their website.

Sam, good information about the robust tool rests. It is much appreciated. I recently purchased a new lathe, not Robust, sorry. The tool rest supplied is cast iron. Not good. I will be seriously looking at one or more Robust tool rests in the near future. Thank you for sharing. However you didn't leave a link to Robust. I did find them but it would have been easier if you had published a link. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂

Thanks for sharing Sam! Where do you purchase the collet chucks for the tool handles. I like that idea. Thanks.

@@waynejoyner5813 I sent you a link to the Robust Price list which has virtually every item they sell.
I also added my email address above. If you want more information, I am not going to do it through an open and public comment thread. Initially, you asked for a price list which I added a link. Arriving at a final price on an American Beauty for example is not simple. The final cost can vary greatly. If you are interested in more information, send me an email. Regards Sam
