    Thanks for this series! We visited my in-laws for Lunar New Year and had the best cherimoya I've ever tasted. I pocketed a few of the seeds in the hopes of getting a tree started. Fingers crossed I'm successful and the resulting fruit comes out just as good!

    Mate generally the smaller the seed the finer your propagation mix should be. Also soaking them in warm water for a few days helps breaks dormancy. I usually dont cover them with soil either as when you first water them they get covered a bit. They do take awhile. Keep the pot covered with plastic. Hope this helps mate.

    FYI I had a cherimoya with ~2 dozen seeds, all of which floated in water. I didn’t bother scarifying them because I thought they wouldn’t be good, well they were. All of them sprouted! They had a much higher rate of survival than some other seeds I had that sunk & I scarified sooo, idk what to make of that, could be coincidence but thought I’d share for what it’s worth. Thanks!

There is a fruit in the same family as cherimoya native to North America called Paw Paw. They are also delicious. The flavor is variable from banana to mango and everything in between. My dude, get some Cherimoyas, cut them and put the meat in a bowl (try to take out the seeds tho as, like you said, they are hard and bitter when chewed), add some fresh Orange Juice to them and some sugar if you fancy it (I don't like to because it changes the base flavor of the fruit) and there you have it, the most famous summer fruit dessert in Chile, Happy Cherimoya (Chirimoya Alegre), or if you want a more citric flavour, you can add Lemon Juice and get what we call Sad Cherimoya (Chirimoya Triste), but I personally like the happy one better, you won't believe how much nicer the flavour is with some orange juice.

    You can soak the seeds for just one night in warm water. I had almost 100% germinating rate within 2 weeks. Can these be grown in a large pot?

    • @dk2614
      @dk2614 3 роки тому +1

      Yes, but you have to root prune them when they get rootbound. You can also prune them to a manageable height but don't continously trim them. They should be allowed to grow until the new growth hardens off then prune back to 2 or 3 leaves per shoot. That is the basis of bonsai tree culture. I would recommend looking into bonsai by getting a beginner book most modern beginner books give you the best ideas for when to root prune, after care, ect. You don't have to follow the esthetic rules but the horticultural principles are over a thousand years of practice. Best of luck
