2019 Acura NSX | The Pragmatist’s Supercar

- Thanks to my day job at Kelley Blue Book, I drive and review lots of cars. Today I’m driving a 2019 Acura NSX. If I had a spare $160,000 to spend would I buy the 2019 Acura NSX? Probably not. That’s airplane money. But if I were the type of guy to buy a supercar, the Acura NSX would rank high on my list. It’s rare, sexy, and drives around town with the same friendly demeanor as any other Honda or Acura product. It’s also quick. Like…supercar quick.
Base price is $159,300. Not cheap but that buys you tons of speed. With a total system output of 573 horsepower the 2019 NSX can run from motionless to 60 miles per hour in about 3 seconds. Top speed is 191 miles per hour. Enabling all that speed is a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 teamed with 3 electric motors. It’s an interesting system that yields fun results for anyone lucky enough to drive the NSX. In this video I take a 2019 Acura NSX test car out for a spin to better understand its nature prior to shooting my full review for Kelley Blue Book. Join me, won’t you?!?

the nsx is hand built the corvette mass produced on an assembly line. the nsx is far more advanced better looking, quicker in the quarter and rare and will get more looks....that said the vette is the best bang for the buck in the world.

It is, but I still much prefer the formula of the original NSX.
it underrate becuase it too expesive for basic a hybird turbo accord... in mid engine style..
They should have made it cheaper. Like GM did with the C8.
It may not be the absolute best, but the NSX has long been my favorite car on the face of the Earth.

I was right there with ya till the Broncos comment. I haven't been a Broncos fan since Elway retired. Honestly I didn't like them back then but I did like to watch Elway bounce footballs off of receivers chests lol.

Overall, a good job Micah. As usual, they really don't give you enough time in a car of this complexity to learn all the ins and outs of the car. You hit on all the points that make the car sooooooo good. It's transmission, visibility, comfort, reliability, styling, cargo, steering wheel feel, and of course, performance. These are all the reasons I bought mine a couple months ago. It has met all my expectations, and then some. I drove it during the winter with Pirelli Sotozero 3 tires mounted at temperatures below -20C up here in Canada, and didn't have a single issue. The car was bulletproof. It was an excellent purchase. You should've tried launch mode. Put it in track mode....hold the brake, floor the gas, and let off the brake.........it will blow your mind............Cheers.

This is the perfect color setup inside & out that I'd go for as my color preferences also include grey & white! So, these two darker tone ones are ideal!!
I think you nailed it calling it the super car for people who don't buy super cars. And that might also be the reason that no one is buying it.

It's comfortable, reliable, get's good gas mileage, all while still being fast. Also by your logic Chevy should just give up on the C8 since no fool will ever buy it over an Audi R8
The C8 has been unveiled an honestly why the fuck would anyone buy an NSX anymore? It's got a pretty amazing interior, and massive mid engine power, all under $60k. This car is making less sense than ever.

Hi Micah! That was awesome! Thanks for letting me know about this video (I had asked you if the Taycan was the most expensive car you had reviewed). When I searched for it I suddenly became aware that there was literally tons of reviews by you that I have not yet seen. A few points:
1. Better looking than the new 'Vette (though for 3x the price!)
2. I like the blue interior but I don't like alcantara (I must have a bit of OCD?)
3. You ever get speeding tickets? (be honest!)
4. I love that color!
5. Neat ending (I thought you were being very creative until I noticed you lost your camera)
6. A&W wants their car back (!)

Believe it or not, it has been YEARS since I've gotten a speeding ticket. Something about driving at race tracks takes the thrill out of driving fast on the street.
The cup holders slot into the tunnel on the right. You'll notice a slot over there....... You can either have them in, or removed for more room for your passenger. I usually leave mine in. I have put velcro on the top of them and on the back of my phone and use the cup holder as a platform for my phone. It works really well.

I don't normally like orange cars, but this one looks awesome! Hands down this is the best looking Japanese car on the market today. Considering this is made by Honda, I'm kinda shocked that it is missing at least a couple of modest cup holders. Also amazing that, for such a high-tech car, it doesn't have side mirror collision detection. Would like to see how this stacks up against the Corvette C8 that is coming out soon.

Hey micah. Thanks for an in depth look at the nsx. Also, appreciate the fact that you're not biased towards German/American brands. I find a lot of reviews dont give credit to the NSX mainly because it's not German/American. Unfortunate.

I don't get why they don't just re-brand the new Honda infotainment system used in the Accord and Pilot, it's so much better than what Acura currently offers in any of their cars despite being the luxury division of Honda.

The NSX does have cup holders. They are removable and normally stored in the glove box. They slide into a slot on the passenger side of the center tunnel. I bought my 2017 used and the original owner didn’t provide it. Still trying to get that worked out.

The cup holders are next to the center console on the passenger side, they pop out from the side.
Usually the cup holders are kept in the glove box.
Isn't their a cupholder attachment in the glove box or somewhere that slides into a slot on the passenger side of the console? Pretty sure there is, and it's two cupholders in one!

Fantastic car the NSX. It’s going to be interesting when the new Corvette gets here to compare them, especially when the ‘Vette gets its electric motors on its front wheels.
(And yes, I know it’s beating a dead horse, but it sure would be swell to have a manual trans as an option. Oh, never mind...)

honstly this car with a quick tune is insane.
You don't have to shut the engine off to open the trunk. You didn't notice the little button to the right of the back up camera on the deck lid. You could've pressed that to open the trunk, or if you had been more patient, and held the trunk release button for about a second or two, the lid would've opened.
Supercars, but you can drive every day 👍

Seems like a great car, though at that price point, I'm puzzled why it doesn't have a better infotainment setup.
honda announced they will only produce limited production OEM part to keep thing green.. so v6 and turbo come from accord... hybrid from civic hybrid and info system just stock shit... they don't sale much of this so you get what you get...
Thank goodness I can jump from my 2016 Honda Civic, straight into this $100K 2019 NSX and have no learning curve with its identical infotainment system.
And that Civic reliability is something you won’t need to give up in your new NSX.
Folks just have no idea. I drive daily and still love my 2010 Audi R8 Spyder but owning it has not been without some very expensive maintenance and repair costs.
Do you have any idea why cars like McLaren’s come with fire extinguishers?! Here on earth, there is no more daily drivable supercar than the NSX. My current car, or rather more so the 2nd gen R8, comes in 2nd place but not by close.
I’ll take the standard Honda elements because what also comes with that is Honda reliability. You have no idea how much it sucks to be driving your R8 or other supercar in the hot summer and having the AC die on you. Or being stuck at the side of the road after a breakdown while people take pics of you next to your supercar.
If you want and can afford a dozen cars then by all means, add other supercars to your collection that you won’t drive daily. If you want just one supercar that is a real supercar when you want it to be and then at the turn of a knob, a daily cruiser with no drama; then the NSX is very hard to beat.

On carbon-ceramic brake weight savings: 50 lbs of unsprung weight savings is like taking 200 lbs off the chassis. Unsprung weight savings is WAY more important than sprung weight savings.

Problem with the infotainment is it’s lifted from the previous generation Honda/Acura cars. It’s very slow and outdated. Takes somewhere around 20-30 seconds to fully boot after turning on the car.
Also for those performances minded people. Yes the Carbon Ceramic brakes save a lot of weight, but it’s more than just overall dead weight. It’s unsprung mass and rotating mass that is reduced. That means the car handles better over bumps and it accelerates faster than an equivalent model with iron brakes.
With the weight savings from carbon ceramic brakes, they could have splurged on blind spot monitoring.

I know it's not on a lot of people's list and the redesign comes next year but like you, I'm a family man and I'm looking for a family sedan and the Passat has all things needed but no one has reviewed it. Iove this car so much. Easily among the most beautiful on the road. I also happen to really like the interior design, which apparently puts me in the minority.
Very nice car but, I think I would rather buy the Lexus LC500 and save over $50,000, plus it comes with the naturally aspirated V8 5.0L 😍

The NSX and LC aren't even in the same segment..
Irvine is probably one of the worst places to speed. They have ten cops for every person living there...well not really, but still.

The V6 doesn't make 406 lb/ft of torque. It makes something like 473.......or 476.........much more than that.....
all of you reviewers never find the cupholders they are in the glove box and you stick them on the side of the center consul theres a place to mount them 3:53 you can see it in this shot

Tough call. My vote is: can't go wrong with either. In 10 years, you'll still feel special when you go to drive either one.
Unlike every other supercar, golf clubs and bag fit, horizontally, in the trunk. 911? Gotta shove the dirty bag of clubs in back seat. Italians and British? You're kidding, right? The only other sports car that fit clubs is the Boxster (folding golf pull cart in the frunk FTW!).
Wow so much technology, but Honda skimps on the BSM safety, guess they want to sell more of these. So frustrating how these companies think profit over people.
