@@Strafer66 the only thing he doesn’t like about the Airpods Pro is the way they fit in his ears, I’ve never seen him say that the audio isn’t good lol
I personally have tested Sonos One and HomePod next to each other, and I much prefer the HomePod. It gets a lot clearer and more balanced. I noticed with the Sonos one that deeper sounds sometimes don’t sound quite right. I especially noticed that with the bass on Billie Eilish’s “xanny”. I’m not gettting my minis until Wednesday, but I think my fav of the three will still be the original HomePod.
At the end is all about personal preference, some will like it and some won't. Personally I dont really the sound that the homepod delivers but as I said, its just personal preference with different taste🤷♂️
Since iOS14 My iPhone 11 Pro Max has had horrible speaker volume to the point where I can't even hear UA-cam videos. My HomePod Mini is for speaker call functions and watching videos. My first impression is that it's not bad. With 2 of them side by side and if you're really close to the mini and it would be fine, key point being very close to the mini as I am!
Sam is the only tech youtuber i actually look foward to every day because his personalitys is like you know him personally and he is your beat friend or something idk but he is chill and knows his stuff
I bought 2 of them so I could see how they sound in stereo, sad to say they’re going back. I’ll be switching for another regular HomePod... If bass quality is a must for you then don’t waste your time on the mini, go with the original. If you’re buying for a kitchen or somewhere where critical listening doesn’t ever happen then go with the mini...( or for a young child )
I own the HomePod, Sonos One, and HomePod Mini and this video is accurate...the Sonos One is the best overall. I actually think these speakers all serve a different purpose though. Sonos Ones = great surround sound speakers HomePod = great speakers for listening to music by voice control HomePod Mini = great for controlling smart lights and Apple Home devices
I do appreciate the honest opinion. I think maybe all songs have a different sound and can play out differently than the options that were shown off here. The last song played the best on the mini for sure. But definitely you get what you pay for
I suppose we can now justify the home pod seeing how more people can trust the audio technology I just hate that it wasn’t portable in the effort of travel friendly; now you can bring with you with a power bank that you previously had
I have a very small home office and I got a HomePod Mini for my desk. It’s perfect for the room. Yeah it doesn’t get super loud but it sounds way better than just my Mac speakers or my iPad speakers. And you get those convenient Siri features. I also have a standard HomePod in my bedroom and that thing is too loud. I love it but it’s way too loud especially for wake up alarms. Definitely plan on replacing it with another HomePod Mini when stock improves and move the big HomePod down to my Apple TV 4K and use it there where I think it’s sound profile makes more sense.
Your Dad should make your Review Top Priority 🤣 Nice review so is as good as my Alexa Echo Dot! Also I like how you used the 12 Pro in your room for one test. Then in the hall used the standard 12 as the review unit as well. Way to make both purchases necessary!
A bit unfair test when you put bigger speakers against a mini speaker. Would of been better test against other small speakers. It a bit like putting the Sonos against a full disco speaker and saying that it get louder
Ok it’s a smaller speaker so the sound won’t match the quality of the HomePod or Sonos, but you do need to take into account that all speakers need to bed in so you can experience the speakers sound quality at its best. Your Sonos is well and truly bedded in after many hours of playing music, thus sounding awesome. Give the HomePod mini some hours of playing music & I’m sure the sound playback will improve.
I appreciate the honest review, I personally have been avoiding smart speakers because I really don’t have smart home devices in general and don’t feel the need to fall down the slide of buying and changing every light and outlet in my house and shit. Also Siri is kinda terrible and no built-in UA-cam Music is a huge letdown for me. I guess I’ll still be wearing my airpods pro everywhere and all the time...
Well obviously if you have the original HomePod, you would definitely hate the mini. But for first-time customers of the HomePod line, the mini is just perfect. Because it’s so small, obviously the hardware on the inside is limited but the audio from such a small form factor compared to other similarly priced and sized smart speakers is actually better
I’m looking to get the HomePod mini probably next year. I love my Amazon Echo and it was free, but this device is looking better and better. Plus, my other devices are Apple products.
Hey Sam, thanks for the great review. After watching this I’m more leaning towards getting the original HomePod. I’m also now thinking about Sonos when I wasn’t before. But i think I’d rather have Siri and all that Apple Jazz.
I’ve tried a pair of Sonos ones and they sounded amazingly, I really loved how clear and crispy was the sound. But then I moved to a Sonos move and returned the Ones cause I needed the portability of the move. Have you ever tried the Move? Would be interesting to hear your thought about those two compared

Wish they would do something like a “night mode” feature for HomePod (2018) to make it less “punchy” (as you put it.) That’s one reason why I enjoy using Spotify with HomePod, because I can EQ the audio to be less colored on the low end.
Yo you gotta listen to some studio music that’s been professionally produced. I’m blown away with the homepods sound but doesn’t sound near as good when I play my friends bands music cause they’re more diy
Can HomePod mini be powered by an iPad Pro?? I believe the mini has USB C cable which can be plugged in iPad Pro, not sure if iPad can supply enough power.
Can you compare the mini to the google nest mini (sound quality)? I have a LOT of the nest minis (one in every room of the house for whole home sound). I have the google home max as well as a HomePod stereo pair and prefer the homepods (for sound quality and handoff).
Does the Sonos have voice-activated support (such as Siri or Alexa)? I want a speaker with the best sound, and Sonos seems to be that, but also one that will tell me the time, weather, etc. I'm generally an apple user but I'm not married to the idea of a Homepod if the Sonos is better and uses Alexa.
Sam, That's called the sound stage when you get the feeling of a real stage. isn't the sonos 1 mono, whereas the homepods have multiple speakers and do the "3d" sound thing? I feel like a stereo pair of sonos 1 would probably whoop a homepod, but a single homepod does a decent pseudo-stereo sound thing.
