A modern twist on a classic tale from Walt Disney Animation Studios features a beautiful girl named Tiana (Anika Noni Rose) who dreams of owning her own restaurant. Charlotte is easily the best friend of any Disney movie. She wanted a Prince her whole life, but left her first dance with him to clean Tiana up, she tipped her the money she needed for her restaurant (without need of repayment) because she knew Tiana wouldn’t accept money as a gift so she disguised it as hiring her to cater, she was friends with Tiana despite her skin colour or money, she refused to marry Navine because she knew Tiana loved him, the list goes on. Also, Charlotte dresses in only pink, so the blue gown she gives Tiana at the party would imply she bought and kept that blue dress specifically for Tia, since Lottie never wears blue
I never noticed the significance of the blue dress, Lotte really is an amazing friend.

I agree! At first I was like girl just loan the money to Tiana for her restaurant but then I figured Tiana wouldn’t take any sort of handout and believes in earning the restaurant through hard work. I always wished they addressed that at least once, like Charlotte could say “Tia, I just wish you’d let me loan you the cash.” And Tiana would reply “Lotte, I will not be taking your money. I’m gonna work hard just like my daddy did.” I know it’s pretty much implied but I think even just a short exchange like that could’ve added a lot more to their characters and friendship

Charlotte is my favorite character in the movie along with ray. Charlotte is the best friend I could never have, she maybe spoiled but she's very kind towards Tiana. I love how she can be supportive and diva in the same time.
Charlotte’s dad too! He spoiled his daughter but always treated Tiana and her mom with respect. Charlotte and her dad were both really wonderfully written for how they could have spun the whole situation.
The fact that it’s been her life DREAM to become a princess and she still chose to give that all up as soon as she saw it was best for Tiana. That’s an amazing friend. She’s a spoiled brat but also extremely selfless and kind to her closest friend.
And, despite being a rich, spoiled, white woman living in a year 1926, she was friends with Tia since they were kids, she cares about her and she's willing to help and support, never being racist towards Tiana, even though it was common in that time

YES! I also love how although she knows Tiana will not accept money from her without working for it (even though Charlotte could probably buy her that dream restaurant in the blink of an eye), Charlotte helps her by hiring her and pays her well. She's also willing to put her own dreams to the side the moment it means it will help Tiana :')
1:50 OH, THE IRONY. This was Disney's last hand drawn animated movie before they closed the studio... That's why I went to see it in cinema. Many people have many really dumb issues with this movie but I think it did everything right.
It is NOT their last 2D film.
The last one was "Winnie the Pooh" from 2011.

WRONG!! You forgot about the 2011 Winnie the Pooh. And hey, Moana in 2016 had some minor hand-drawn animation in it. Don't forget Mary Poppins Return in 2019 having a 2D-animated sequence just like the original Mary Poppins. Even the Enchanted sequel coming out later this year, Disenchanted, will have it.
Also, they didn't "close" the studio, because they still use it for cartoonish CGI animation.
And anyway, lots of geniuses are leaving the company already due to Disney's current reluctance to fully embrace 2D (due to to a new dimwitted and arrogant corporate mentality caused by both Bob Iger, acquisition of stuff they didn't create, and social media), as well as how it's nothing but sloppy pandering stuff they do now.
John Musker and Ron Clemments (directors of The Great Mouse Detective, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, Treasure Planet, The Princess and the Frog, and Moana) have moved on to Warner Bros to make an animated feature films (possible all 2D) based on DC's Metal Men. And Brad Bird and John Lasseter of Pixar have moved on to Skydance Animation with such new creative ideas such as the upcoming Luck.
It always gets me, how they make us mourn about such goofy character as Ray. It's really cool!
Fun fact: Evangeline is the Neverland from Peter Pan.

You mentioned not knowing where Naveen is from: he's from a fictional country called Maldonia! Still an interracial relationship but Naveen isn't of a real world nationality or ethnicity (that we know of at least). Maldonia seems to have a lot of different inspirations (some of the words he speaks from his language sound Italian-based) and his voice actor is Brazilian.

I love how you called out Ray turning into a star before it happened 😆 it was such a happy surprise for me that I went from just lots of tears to audible sobbing when it happened 😂
I like the idea that Evangeline also became the second star to the right from Peter Pan when Ray became a star at the end 💖
This movie is honestly fun with the fanlore that connects all of the films. So Evangeline was not only revealed to be Neverland from Peter Pan...but Timon from Lion King got to be right with stars being fireflies stuck in the blue-ish black thing that was the night sky.
And, also, the Magic Carpet became a house rug as seen at the beginning of the "Down in New Orleans" song.

I cried SO MUCH because of Ray! I never had cried for any Disney character! Not even Mufasa! But Ray's death broke my heart! At least he's with Evangeline!
Bro, your reactions are the best. This movie really gets me, my moms side of the family are all Cajuns from the bayou. This movie really encapsulates New Orleans to me, the music, the food, the colors, the accents. Mama Odie reminds me of my Mimi (French slang for grandma). It makes me cry every-time.

Ray is one of my favorite characters in all of Disney and I feel really bad for him because I feel like he's one of the more forgotten characters in Disney movies which is just messed up in my opinion rest in peace Ray some people will forget you but I never will
I saw this movie in theaters and i immediately thought it as on a whole other level just the opening scene. Watching beautiful black representation, the hilarious dialogue, the character development, and heart wrenching moments PLUS the music is timeless! It’s a winner in my book, top 3 Disney movies (I’m a sucker for Tangled)!
Everytime I see or hear Keith David I can't help but think "How the Hell you get the beans on top the frank?!?" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I didn't watch this film until last year and I can't believe I waited so long to see it! The movie is amazing! The soundtrack is incredible! Almost There was in my top 5 most played songs on Spotify in 2020 and it reached #6 this year!
I recently got my mom to watch this movie a few months back and the way she GASPED when Ray got smooshed omg 😆 (she’s not the biggest fan of animated films so when I can find one she likes it’s exciting for me lol) the funeral scene made her cry and whenever she cries she’s like “you’re not aloud to pick movies for me anymore cause they always make me cry which always gives me a headache!” and I’m like well, all the best movies make you cry at least once right? 😂
This is one of the best disney princess movies I love it so much!!
Happy (late) Birthday!! I loved this movie when it came out, I saw it in theaters twice lol. I grew up with hand-drawn animation and so having seen this when I believed the style to be dead was a miracle. And I think we all teared up when Ray died…😣
First of all, happy birthday! I hope you are well enough to enjoy it!
Secondly, there are two things I've seen commented in other UA-cam reactions (it's about the the Tarot card scene in the beginning):
*1)* "It's the green you need...it's the green that I see" On the Tarot card, there was a lily pad underneath Naveen and the money.
*2)* "Marry a little honey whose daddy got dough" While the Tarot card appeared to show Charlotte and her father, the dough could be a reference to Tiana's father, him being a cook and all.
This movie was actually Disney's last 2D film, until 2011's Whinnie the Pooh, and is definitely a classic. Speaking of classics, I recommend Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, Treasure Planet, and Brother Bear. Also, since you have seen The Lion King recently, I suggest watching The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride.

Tiana has the best wardrobe of any princess. Great movie, great message, great music, great best friend, great villain, great artwork, and even a reasonable love story, too! Sadly, this movie is the last movie that is in 2D. I think that is a bittersweet honor. ♥

You watched Cars yesterday. I would like to say that the same director from that film (John Lasseter) and composer (Randy Newman) had major participation on Princess and the Frog. The woman (Jenifer Lewis) who did the voice of Flo (think of the flashy teal classic car from the movie with the big fins) also played the woman who sung "Dig a Little Deeper".
So a lot of Cars cast members worked on this movie. This was also the first film I ever saw in the movie theatre.

I think this movie has some of the best messages of any Disney movie and it's got great characters, too. I love it because I can recognize so many of my family's traditions (southern, New Orleans) in it. Shame it's so underrated.

just found your channel and can i just say, i really appreciate the editing and just the general way you discuss things as you watch. ime with most react channels, it feels like a lot of them are focusing more on delivering random, semi-relevant quips than they are on the movie. even if that's not actually the case, it still tends to feel like it because the videos are paced and formatted in a frustrating way. i think you hit a great balance between discussing what you're seeing and actually watching, it's nice to watch someone who seems genuinely invested in these movies and whose video style reflects it. great listen when im writing/drawing or just need some entertainment on a long trip, thanks a lot :)

Very late response, but I just found your channel recently! This is actually the first Disney movie where all of the voice actors for the speaking lines also do all of the singing for their characters. Prior to this, one or more character in the movie would have one actor for the speaking lines, and one for the singing lines. Since this movie, it's almost always one voice actor for both.

I believe Dr. Facilier is my favorite underrated Disney villian. He’s so much charismatic and yes, his goals for money is basic, but the profession he’s in is dark. His death i believe is very gruesome compared to Lion Kings Scars death . The applaud the actor that plays him for doing such a good job.
This movie is the reason I wanted to visit New Orleans when we went to America (I’m Australian) and I absolutely loved everything about the place. The people were kind the food was great and there was literally jazz everywhere, the only thing I wasn’t used to was the weather, I come from a sort of cold part of Australia so I’m used to a lot of dry cold which is why the heat in New Orleans was a bit of a pain for my family and I. But yeah this is one of my absolute favorite Disney movies of all time.

Actually, the actress playing Tiana's mom Eudora is Oprah Winfrey herself. The actress in the MCU Luke Cage show on Netflix who played Black Mariah was Alfre Woodard, an Oprah lookalike - unsure how you missed her name when looking up actresses, instead guessing by faces alone.
