You don’t talk about the rv roam plan for 50 a month. Yes it caps at 50 GB then 1 a gb after that. Being a part time rv user this is perfect for me. I rarely go over 50 gb.
I am one of those grandfathered people. We have a Gen two flat mounted to our Sprinter. I’m super curious if it’s really going to play well with in motion use. I’m paying the extra $20 for it. It better work. 😊
I've had the gen2 flat mounted on the RV for a couple years. Works great on the hiway at 100km/h. We normally turned it off while driving, but a few times we forgot, realized it when the phones still had network when we drove thru an area where we know there isn't cell coverage for a couple hundred km. Since they bumped the price and added 'in motion', we will just turn it on leaving home, and leave it on for the duration of the trip. Good chance too that we'll drop the plan down to the 50gb for 70 dollars (Canadian pricing), dont think we have ever gone over 50gb in a month on our trips.
I've done it. When we first got ours, first thing I did was put it on pause and wait till the month rolled over, service died. Fired it up, logged on using the iPad (no cell on the pad) thru the starlink and activated the plan again. Took 15 minutes and internet was live.
As we're not privy to conversations happening w/i Statlink, it does become increasingly frustrating to see Starlink flip flopping a few times a year. For example, their pricing & service plans. $90 then $110, then $120. I recall an email stating they were increasing prices due to the Biden Admin. Will they change if the tax structure decreases? They should IF their claims were honest during the price hike. I have no interest in making this political but we need to be reminded of the "reason for pice increases."
I don't think prices will go down unless they have to. If people are willing to pay the higher prices, they will keep them inflated. That's just common corporate greed, and smart business strategy to maximize revenue. Look at other markets. Starlink hardware and service plans are cheaper in other countries. It's because Starlink isn't as in demand, and people just aren't willing to buy it at higher prices. In the US, though, it's in high demand. Starlink will try to charge as much as they can possibly get away with. That won't change because of politics. The only thing that will lower prices is slowing growth/demand or increased competition.
@StarlinkHardware i agree on the point you make on price increases. However, I'll be disappointed (although not surprised), if they maintain the price IF taxes do go down. I can handle "we're increasing our prices" far more than "we're increasing our prices due to this" and never change course if those conditions are met which made the price increase in the first place.
While I understand your frustration. There is competition, HughesNet, Viasat, OneWeb , Starlink is the competitor that is drastically forcing the prices for satellite based internet. Yes, it’s expensive, but we should appreciate how drastically less expensive it is than any other option.
For satellites, a fixed location at residential home or a moving RV/boat has no difference. Starlink should just keep it simple: same price for Residential or RV or combo of two at $120/month. Why does it make things so complicated?
Starlink sets the prices, has nothing to do with regulation. Look at Europe. More regulation than the US, but half the price for Starlink services in most places. The Mini is another prime example. Elon said they can manufacture it for less than half the cost of the Standard. But it’s nearly double the MSRP of the Standard in the US. And much cheaper in other markets. Starlink is after revenue, and they charge the max each market will tolerate. The US is a wealthy market and they will tolerate much higher prices.
@@StarlinkHardware 💯 Pricing is based on what people can and will pay. It's crazy what the difference is on equipment and service between the US and my home in Costa Rica.
I agree the not being able to choose to move to residential seems like a poor plan. However, if you can get that straightened out they do offer an option that worked better for me. That is the ability to add a Strarlink Mini to my residential plan for $30 a month. This means for $150 a month my home Internet stays up and I can take the Mini with me when I travel. The $30 only includes 50 gb of data but in most cases that is enough and I can access my home network when needed. Full disclosure I also have a gen 3 dish on pause for those cases when I need better speed or more data. If I didn’t need my home Internet up while I’m away I guess I might feel differently.
You don’t admire him because his company raised the price of the product they sell ? Every customer is micromanaging their tippy toe as they test the satellite internet market. I’m going with truly unlimited 5-G high speed data from T-Mobile for $60 a month. If at some time in the future satellite fills my need at a competitive price……HELLO STARLINK !
Love your discussions. You speak VERY well ❤! Thank you for speaking plain English 👍👍😁. Good work!!
I appreciate your feedback and support!

Roam 50GB is great, but it's really only a travel plan. The Residential + Portability plan was both a home internet and travel plan.

I use in motion w my gen 2 flat mounted on my travel trailer. Works pretty good.

Can one activate a roaming plan in a no service zone? Or do you have to pre-active the plan from a serviced zone?
Do you mean cell service, or like places where Starlink isn’t up and running yet?

@@StarlinkHardwareI’m okay with the $120 or more because I know the money is going towards expanding humanity to the stars
I ordered Starlink residential the middle of Nov, Will this affect me when I get off the waiting list?
No, the only people affected are those that had this legacy plan from back in the 2022 timeframe.
It was never offered in many markets either.
We really need competition in this space! Starlink is gradually becoming terrible with its pricing strategy.

They're milking us for money basically by price gouging
I priced Starlink recently. Forgetaboutit.
Starlink gives their service to places in Latin America real cheap but poor rural Americans have to pay a fortune.
I am so grateful for AT&T AIR
Pricing it as the market will tolerate.
Less regulation, lower compliance cost in Latin America. Blame the US government for higher cost.

Sad, but many of us who once admired Elon Musk, no longer do so.
Do you judge the CEOs of every other product, store, or service you buy? General Mills, Coca-Cola, Ford, Chevy, AT&T, Verizon, etc, etc??
