After several recordings with no chance to hit, her father told Connie that this old song will be a hit for her. Connie just didn't think so, and resisted. Finally, at the end of a recording session they had 5 minutes left. Connie said, well, what do I have to lose. She recorded this song in ONE TAKE, which is all the time there was left in the recording session. After about a month, there was nothing. Then, when watching Dick Clark's American Bandstand, he said, "This Song is Going to the Top". And, that it did. It became Connie's first of many many hits!
I was a little girl when she had all her top ten hits. Her voice is a gift and this song is kind of like venture in a country vibe. Bless you S&M for finding this and reacting.
I am from Hollywood,Fla and I worked delivery driver in Hallendale, Fla and I used to deliver to her Condo on a regular basis and she would get a Small cheese every time and give you a 50 dollar bill and tell you to keep the change one time she asked me what kind of music that I liked and I told her the fifties and 60's and she went into another room and came back out with 3 albums and she signed them for me.
Connie is another one of the great young lady singers of the late 50's - early 60's. Some of her hits were "Stupid Cupid", "My Happiness", "Among My Souvenirs", "Lipstick on Your Collar", "Where The Boys Are" & "Frankie". She recorded many of her songs in other languages. And she did the singing voice for some actresses in a few movies. She had a very tragic life (was raped, lost her voice for a few years with complications from surgery, her brother was murdered, suffered from manic depression, married 4 times).
That voice! She put out a lot of absolutely perfect records back in the day. My Polish grandmother -- who always had her radio on listening to pop/rock n'roll music -- LOVED Connie Francis ... and Bobby Vinton ... And Bobby Darin. And so do I. :-)
I love hearing younger generations discover these stars. Way back in 1960 when my mom died the housekeeper played her albums a long with Nat King Cole al day long. Non stop as she did her housework and took care of us. ❤❤❤❤
Connie Francis and Brenda Lee both have a lot in common...Both have great vocals and are tiny in stature. And both became big recording stars during the 50's and 60's. Note: She was also in the 1960 movie "Where The Boys Are" She also sang the movies title song. Great reaction to one of the finest female singers ever...
she did it in one take, this was her last session with MGM and her father demanded she sing whos sorry now with a new beat, this was her first hit after her six previous songs bombed in the charts
Patty page has some of the most relaxing songs I've herd so far. Besides Patsy Cline . Love the oldies you can understand the words. Connie Francis is one of the great ones also.
II had Connie Francis pictures plastered all over my bedroom, back in the day !! Still love her, and still loving you guys. Keep it up. I'm gonna check out your reaction to Brenda Lee, next !!
And I love older Masterpieces All the way to the late 40s I just love all different types of music And not all artists use autotune No dis respect Just making a point
Connie was a great singer, but did you know that she was a smart business woman? With her first contract with MGM Records, she had total control over her career. She was Executive Producer of all her product. She got to record what material she wanted, record where she wanted; record with the musicians she wanted to work with; MGM bought the gowns/clothes and accessories she wore for her publicity photos, album covers, 45 record sleeves, AND Connie got to keep everything. MGM paid for all of her sessions and they couldn't recoup the money directly from Connie. MGM could not release anything Connie record unless Connie gave her consent. She had an unheard of contract for that period of time.
Connie Francis, Brenda Lee, Dusty Springfield...all of these beautiful women could sing FABULOUS!!!! When we were young teenagers, this music made us love our guys deeply. We definitely were moony eyed teenagers. We danced so smoothly and sweetly with our honey bunnies. We were so innocent.
My brother & I sang all of the Connie Francis songs we had on the albums at the time! I think my brother was in love with Connie 🥰 You should hear her sing in Italian 💎✨. Truly a beautiful singer of the 50’s & 60’s 💎
There are a lot of songs her voice was phenomenal. I’ll name a few, The Tennessee Waltz, It’s Only Make Belief, Love is A Many Splendor Thing just a few but her is really something. I hope you get a chance to listen to these few.
I love the expressions on your faces. I know I looked the same way when I discovered her for myself. You can't believe what you are hearing. She's the best.
Connie Francis was a very nice and very lovely italian American Lady who was never afraid to show that she was italian - even in an era when Italians were being discriminated against #ItalianPride
As a youngster in the late 50's / early 60's my parents had this record, as well as "Where The Boys Are" - whenever that song started, our chihuahua would run up to the speaker and start 'singing' (howling) along.

Loved your reaction to this great song. You should listen to more of Connie's other great hits! She was the number one female artist during the 50's and 60's! Thanks for bringing back such great memories!

One of the greatest voices of the 20th Century!

So right. One take. And she didn't think it was that good!
She had such a haunting voice and phenomenal technique that you could not wait for her next record. You could never get enough of it.
I was a little girl when she had all her top ten hits. Her voice is a gift and this song is kind of like venture in a country vibe. Bless you S&M for finding this and reacting.

The 60s had a plethora of great singers, Connie was definitely one of them. Incredible vocals!!!
I heard Elvis left in tears at her performance when she sang "Momma". His mom had died.
Connie Francis is without a doubt the best female singer of her era.
[jimkreider9997] Connie Francis's record sales during that era of music would indicate that.

She also had a man break into her home and ra*ed her....she never really recovered from that and stopped performing
Love this song.
