Your Root strategy videos are the greatest!!! Since getting Villainous for Christmas I have found these very helpful as well. I am having some difficulty when other players don't draw my fate cards. My first game with someone else's Marvel theme and Thanos. I never got an ally the whole game and since no one ever played a Fate card on me. I was purely a spectator the whole game. Next I played with Disney and Ursula. Again no one would play from my Fate deck and I never got the King. I was just a spectator again. Then in a replay with Ursula, Prince John won, but I was two turns from winning so it was a better experience. There doesn't seem to be a way of mitigating the luck of the card draw of my deck or getting others to draw my Fate cards. And if they do they get to pick the one that hurts me and discard the one I need to win.
The mitigation is gonna be the discard cards function. No matter the villain i almost always get through my deck 1 time or twice. :) Sometimes groups can make it tough without fating. A lot of characters have options within their own deck that allow them to progress their goal!

Which Effects does this apply to? If I use Grow Giant to use the Move a Hero action on Triton does it cost extra?
@@Mikewolfe2005 you are actually incorrect. Ariel’s card specifically says that she can only moved an unattached item from an UNLOCKED location. @@LordoftheBoard don't get me wrong. She's fun and she's unique in how she plays. And I love the concept of grow giant. It's just hard to close out a game as her.
Ok so we just bought this game and I'm having an argument with my sister. Please clarify. Here is the scenario: URSULA'S LAIR is locked; Ursula is in ERIC'S SHIP with an item card at this location (trident); Ursula uses action 'play a card' and plays grow giant. Can Ursula use the 'move an item or ally' action at URSULA'S LAIR (which is locked), to move the item she has at ERIC'S SHIP to URSULA'S LAIR?
Daniel Josol yeah but the card would have to explicitly say it can be removed from a locked token then. Or atleast that is the way I see it. Mabye I am wrong here. 😅
@@LordoftheBoard Someone on discord explained it to me, if the card text says 'even if...', that's an example of the card taking precedence. I know im late to the hype train party. But can you get locked in the lair or castle if you stay there and a hero says move the lock token. I know one does it i just cant remember. Also i like jafar. He is hard to play in villanous
@@LordoftheBoard ok. Thanks. My siblings and i were.wondering about it because if you get locked in her lair. Unless you can play cards. You cant get more to have a chance to get her transform card. So again thx.
Can anyone help ? If there is a hero at a location that later becomes locked. Can she move him with an effect card that says moves to ... ? I know you cant move cards when they are locked but does this also count when she plays an effect card that says to move a card ? Thanks in advance
I don’t understand how ally’s work with her. Do I need ally’s to defeat heroes including King Triton??? And if I do have to use ally’s... do the ally’s go back in the discard pile once a hero is defeated?
So she actually operates very different. For her you canT defeat her by vanquishing with allies. Instead you have to attach binding contracts to hero’s. Binding contracts have a location that that hero must move to to be removed. For example the yellow binding contract says to move the attached hero to the shore to be removed. You must attach it to Eric. Then use card effects to move Eric over to the shore to get him off your board :)
The two allies in her deck are flotsam and Jetsam and they can be activated to move an ally which can help get them to whatever location their attached binding contract says
The power number attached to the hero/ally is useless or did I miss something ... Disappointed by that. You have a Triton king with 6 power but it does nothing 👑🤣
But if sebastian is played in The location of binding contract taked by him, Sebastian is defeated immediatly or he is defeated only when he return on that location
What happens if you move the lock to her liar, but she has the trident and crown already there? Does that block her from winning or does that even matter?
Lord of the Board I’m not sure why someone would want to lock the first location. If you don’t run into a change form card again... you risk not being able to play your key items there to win. Any suggestions or something I’m missing?
Sheena Rush it’s a gamble. Some never even do it while playing. I’ve used it when I knew I would draw another change form soon. Cause locking things under the token can be very clever to things from moving. Getting everything to the palace is one important trick with Ursula.
Lord of the Board Thanks so much. Your videos are so helpful! Another question about locking items at Ursula’s Lair... I’ve been trying to hold on to the crown and Trident until I can play them at the same time. Either I play an “activate location” to defeat King Triton and a play a card to put down the crown.... or I play two cards to make this happen. But I don’t have another “play a card” action left to lock my items up so I can win on my next turn. Any suggestions for better playing that? The lock seems to be a good strategy if used well... but I’m not getting it. That Ariel always seems to be toward the bottom of my fate deck.

If u think out out of the box abit u dont even to to bound kill the king Triton since u can just played Triden at Ursala Liar and leave it there since the winning condition is to start the game with Triten and Crown not to get the king killed . Triten will be at the lair and cannot be pull by aerial since King Triton is there and thus u win by just moving your crown or played the crown at liar😜😜😜😜😜
Ok, If I read yours correctly...before defeating king triton, the trident is kept at the top with Triton. In order to win, you need the crown and the trident on your side, not the hero side. Contracts act as your vanquish action and you need them to defeat the king. Once that is done... then the triten is returned to your side.

I know im late to the hype train party. But can you get locked in the lair or castle if you stay there and a hero says move the lock token. I know one does it i just cant remember. Also i like jafar. He is hard to play in villanous
The_Flare001 you do not get stuck. You just can’t move into a locked token. But you can move out of one.
It does also apply to that sadly :/ when locked even card effect do not work
Thanks for the quick repons !
Just to be sure. Even with the green card effect right?
So why would they need 4strength anyways? That's what confused me lol
@@jessejean1854 That's relevant for other players Conditions cards. Captain Hook's Cunning, for example.
What happens if ursula defeats king triton before the trident is revealed?
King triton will just get played from the discard pile to the tridents location :)
@@LordoftheBoard uh oh, my sister won't be happy
Maleficent!
Did you watch the video I did for her!
@@LordoftheBoard not yet, will probably this weekend
@@darthzannah5015 hope you enjoy it! :)
Lorenzo Bertusi he has to be moved I to the location not Played on. So yes you would have to move him off then back on
Ursula the sea witch with six tentacles
What about the strength numbers of heroes and allies? In Ursula’s game are they useless, aren’t they?
For ursula herself yes. The numbers are still their for conditions from other players.
My favorite villain is ursula 🔮
What happens if you move the lock to her liar, but she has the trident and crown already there? Does that block her from winning or does that even matter?
You could still win if the crown was already there. But if it wasn’t you would have to move the lock token first
Return to form Ariel spam traumatized me to play Ursula ever again
If the location is locked can you still move heros to it?
You cannot. Only unlocked locations. If a location is locked on top of heroes then they can’t leave either :)
It also says rules on the card supercede the game rules, so cards like crown and the trident are NOT protected from aerials effect
Hey, I have those same coasters
I spent the whole game looking for the strident and it was at the very bottom
Hate when that happens!
@@LordoftheBoard omg you replied. I love your videos. I only recently started playing Villainous but because of your videos I play it so often. You're the best
This one is the most difficult. I means, if you cannot find Trident or Crown card, you doom!
She is tough...

Do you think you could redo this video? Maybe a better understanding of her?
Haha tbh a lot of them could use a redo. But sounds like a lot of time that I could spend doing other things. And if I did one I would need to do all of them. Sorry it didn’t help you!
Nobody
Me rigging all the decks to maximise my win chances without anybody knowing
This is a strategy I forgot to mention ;)
My personal opinion 1V1. This is not the way to play Ursula. I would love to have a match one day to show you
These videos were and are meant to improve peoples gameplay just trying to get better at the game at all player counts.

@@LordoftheBoard honestly idk how about you
This video needs more out of focus blur.
Nipzie I totally agree! It’s one of the first Vids made with a new camera. Thanks for watching anyway!!
@@LordoftheBoard working through the set of videos to try to figure out this game
Nipzie it’s certainly one of my favorites. It’s an interesting strategic solitaire game with some screw you mechanics. As you play more you learn the decks and the combos and the cards of each villains
The blurry hand cam shots need to die a death. Would be better static.
I was still very much figuring my process here. if you see this was probably my 7th video.
@@LordoftheBoard Okay nice then they've gotten the axe xD I still really enjoyed the info, though, I should have lead with that! I just ended up just listening and not watching xD

If u think out out of the box abit u dont even to to bound kill the king Triton since u can just played Triden at Ursala
Liar and leave it there since the winning condition is to start the game with Triten and Crown not to get the king killed .
Please stop b rolling your way through the cards ahh. Couldn't finish the video.
This is an old video I was still figuring stuff out. Sorry to annoy you!
