In my opinion they never got the attention they deserved. Highly underrated band. Lots of great songs.
They were huge when they came out. It is true that, in retrospect, that they do not get respect. Huey Lewis is often spoken of divisively among music snobs and undeservedly so.
One of my favorite bands.
i dont know they were huge when i was a teen
At least "The Heat of Rock and Roll" won them a Grammy.
If I remember correctly, second only to Michael Jackson in record sales in the 80s.
Huey never took himself too seriously. One reason he was so popular
One of the nicest guys in the business.
He is a stand-up guy. When they hit big, the record label wanted him to change his drummer, but he told them to stick it - it’s all of us or none of us.
Each of the players was very distinct in appearance and playing. The drummer just fits. Each member obviously has a great sense of humour, expressed with things the vampire teeth in this video, or the shark fin in another. Huey and the band are a unit, and they've got heart and soul.
Tom Petty did exactly the same thing. Record labels only wanted him.
I was watching VH-1's behind the music about Huey Lewis and the News, and one of the band members talked about bands needing good chemistry and liking to be around each other. He said, " It doesn't matter if the guy is the best musician in the world, if the fella is an asshole you don't want to be on the bus with him."
Power of Love and Back In Time are both in Back To The Future.
His song "I Want a New Drug" 's guitar riff was lifted and used for the Ghostbusters song.
Huey and the News were supposed to do an original song for the movie, but it didn't work out, so they just stole one of their hits.
@@Romanus7867 not exactly. He was writing for Back To The Future and couldn't do Ghostbusters.
The GB production the contracted Ray Parker, jr. Giving him a short time and saying, "We want something peppy like "I Want A New Drug"...
Huey and the News won the lawsuit on it and signed an NDA so it’s not talked about a lot.
When I was a kid I used to think he was saying "I want a new truck"
Huey.... Tip of an ICEBERG. OF LEGENDARY MUSIC.... PURE 80S......
When I worked in radio, I had the pleasure of interviewing Huey Lewis twice. As you said, he is just a regular dude who just happens to be a great entertainer. It's a shame he can't perform because of his hearing issue. He and the band cranked out so many great songs for us.
I'm still cranking up Bad is Bad!!!
We danced, we sang, we had fun! That’s the 80’s!
Right?? Fantastic music, fun times and great memories back then.
I would recommend two songs by Huey Lewis and The News. 1.) I want a new drug. 2.) Heart of Rock and Roll. Reactions to both would be very good I believe. Thanks for sharing and cheers
Heartthrob Huey!
"Heart of Rock n' Roll" drew me in as a fan.
His music is in Back to the Future. Huey Lewis has a cameo. He's I've of the judges in the current timeline that says Marty plays too loud. Huey dominated a certain music scene in the 80s. I'm glad you liked this one and i agree with other song requests.
"I Want a New Drug" is one of his best and biggest hits.....
This is a picture of what it was like in the 80's out dancing. ❤
Oh, my youth ❤I loved Huey ❤This saturday we are going to have a big party wtth all the people who graduated from our highschool in 1986 🎉🎉🎉. Huey will definately be on our playlist! 😊
Huey and his band spend most of the late 70's playing small clubs all over the US. Their first hit was Do You Believe In Love.
His song Heart Of Rock N Roll is a tribute to all the cities they played before they made it big.
Big fan of them, my favorite from his early music is Tell Me A Little Lie. It coincided with a break up I was going through and I gave her the 45 of the song.
They had a custom mix of "Heart of Rock N Roll" they played around here. They added the cities "Spokane, Portland Oregon" to the list. I wish I had a copy of that now... When I hear the song, I still add the words to it.
Spokane is a large city in Eastern Washington state, and Portland is the largest city in Oregon.
@@kenf3539 From the Professor Of Rock channel here is an interview with Huey talking about Heart Of Rock N Roll. The interview starts at 8 minutes in.

Do you believe in love definitely one I hope he reacts to
I MISS HUEY LEWIS!! Was so sad when he couldn't sing anymore - he and his band put out SO MANY GREAT TUNES!!! Most were JUST FUN SONGS!! Thanks for reacting to them, BP!!! :)
I saw Huey Lewis and the News back in the mid 80's. They put on one hell of a show. They played about 2 hours and didn't have an opening band. I will never forget that concert.
Yo, 11 year old me was all about Huey Lewis.
So many bangers
Huey & the News always had good music imo 🧡
Huey Lewis and Gwyneth Paltrow
singing “ cruisin”
I was shocked!!!
Guaranteed to exceed expectations.
I can't stand her but if that was her vocals she did a good job.
Love ❤
Huey Lewis and the News are phenomenal! ❤❤❤❤❤. “I Want a New Drug” is my favorite.
Loved this band. Huey's husky voice was unique in it's own way. "Stuck With You" is one of my favorites by them. I think you would like that one.
Yes. Hip to be square. Also power of love in back to the future. Heart of Rock & Roll is crazy good!! 😊
Their music is always so fun and upbeat. 😊
This was the first concert I went to. 1984, the Sports album was huge! The concert started with "I want a new drug." Great times! Huey is one of the nicest guys in the music industry. So many hits back in the day.
One of the most underrated and talented bands to come out of the 80's. While they had big hits they were never given the credit they deserved for being talented musicians, writers and performers. Great riffs, harmonies and vocals by one of my favorite bands of the era. Huey had amazing songs - "Heart of Rock n Roll" , Power of Love from the Back to the Future Soundtrack", "Do You Believe in Love", "If This is It", "I Want a New Drug", "Walking on a Thin Line" and "Jacob's Ladder" to name a handful. Keep going down this rabbit hole.
Huey Lewis - Heart Of Rock And Roll!!!! Btw.. If you ever seen Back To The Future... He did the song "Back In Time" BANGER!!!! If you don't know that one... That one is awesome! React!
Fun fact, he also had a brilliant cameo in the movie.!
@@michellekeyes1507 Well.. If your telling me that.. I have know since 1985! lol
@chrispruett81 I was guessing you already knew, but will probably be new to someone in these threads. It's one of my favorite cameos, so I feel the need to share with the uninformed masses. 'It's just too loud" lol
@@michellekeyes1507 Lol.. Yeah.. I don't blame ya.. Most people don't know! Even hard core fans of BTTF.. it is a great cameo! :)
His catalogue doesn’t have a dud…they are all fantastic…great rabbit hole to explore
Huey Lewis was the guy who sang in we are the world right before cyndi Lauper and right behind Daryl hall
Good memory!
Well, with MJ between Daryl Hall and Huey Lewis.
I miss the 80s
I love Huey Lewis so much!! My dad had this record and played it all the time when I was growing up! The whole sports albums is awesome! If u have seen Back to the future (I'm sure u have), Huey plays the teacher who says that Marty's band is "Just too darn loud"! 😆 He also sings the iconic song Power of love from that movie! Definitely check out Heart of rock and roll, & I want a new drug! Two of my favorites!
Huey Lewis and Kenny Loggins had a bunch of hits in the 80's... love both bands!!
FYI...Huey and his band were in the "We Are the World" video.
In the 80s if nobody was dancing at the bar The Heart of Rock and Roll would get everybody up to dance.
All of his music is 🔥 Great hooks, simple, classic sound. Even my mom liked Huey in the ‘80’s when I was a teenager.
Huey Lewis and the News - the ubiquitous sound of the 80's. They were EVERYWHERE throughout the 80's, and well deserved too, very tight and hard working band. This song reminds me of a girl I fell off a cliff for back in the 80's, so beautiful it hurt my heart just to think of her let alone be with her. Alas it was not meant to last but in exchange I met my wife of now 38 years and counting. "For every door that closes another one opens..."
he is now pretty much profoundly deaf, but has written a Broadway show using his music! And the news are awesome!!!!
Many years ago my wife sat next to Huey in the San Francisco airport and he was very nice to her and they talked for a few minutes. Just pretty down to earth.
I agree with the comments that Huey & guys didn't get the recognition they deserved. Such good "rock-n-roll", their music is packed with solid tunes.
Wow I used to dance to this when I used to go out dancing❤❤❤❤
Great song also check out The Heart of Rock n Roll
The song Power of Love was in the movie Back to the Future . Huey was also in the movie. When Marty McFly's band was auditioning to play for a dance. The guy who stood up and said "sorry fellas its just too darned loud" was Huey
One of the best voices ever💕
I think I remember it took them YEARS to break out as a band...they were plugging away for years, stuck to it ..and this.
LOVE Huey Lewis and the News!!! SO many great hits! The Heart of Rock and Roll, I Want a New Drug, Do you believe in Love, The Power of Love, If this is it, Working for a living, Hip to Be Square, Stuck With You, Working for a Living, Cruising.
I definitely hope he reacts to do you believe in love
Hip to be square was in American Psycho. When he reviewing Huey's album Fore
Please react to Huey Lewis and the news do you believe in love the video is great and the harmonies are amazing
Another soloist in We Are the World. Time to check out the video and find out how many icons you know/don't know!
Huey was/is a big 49ers fan, and during their glory years, he was on the sidelines often. He and the band did a great acapella National Anthem.
Oddly enough, every time he performed the national anthem during that time the 9ers would lose.
AHH ...the MTV years!
When MTV was still "Music Television"?
I had the great pleasure of seeing Huey Lewis and the News in concert on several occasions. Always a spectacular show with A Lot of hit music playing. They were always on the charts in the 80s. It's just too sad that Huey can no longer sing due to his failing hearing.
One thing to check out: At each concert I attended, they always had at least one song where they sang acapella. They were always AMAZING. There are a few videos of their acapella songs. Take a look.
Holy shoot…how have I NEVER thought of MacGyver…and I was 6-15 in the 80s.
The nicest man in the business. God bless Huey.
Grew up on Huey and some Kenny G. Saturday morning chores was either those or DC Talk or Tbone( Christian rapper)
Yep, I'd rip through my chores with Huey, lol.
Got to see them 3 times. 1984, 1985 and 2003. In 2003 the whole band still put on as fine a show as in the 80’s. They are all stand up guys!
They are a San Francisco Bay Area band. Growing up I went to a lot of 49’er games and they either sang the National Anthem or at half time. Great band great music!
Another great San Francisco band!
I was lucky enough to see the band at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls., Oh and at UNLV in Nevada. I have loved this band for decades.
Huey Lewis and the news sport which this song came from was one of those start to finish albums
I want a new drug, heart and soul
Heart of rock and roll!
Huey was one of my MTV favorites during the 80s.
very very underrated artist!!! I loved him - he just always had fun!!!! A pure 80's - MTV star!!!
Loved Huey Lewis and the News in the 80's, and I love them now!!!
Huey Lewis is my all-time favorite group growing up in the 80s he had hit after hit and I've seen him many times in concert
As a pre-teen/teenager in the 80s, I sang along to a lot of songs that I had no idea of the meaning behind them...
The best thing about reliving the good old days with my 1 friend from high school is that now when we're laughing and carrying on, my kids are with me 💛🖤It's the best of both worlds 🤘🤘
Huey Lewis and the News is my absolute favorite band of all time. Great songwriting, great performances, just wonderful stuff all around. I honestly don't think they have a bad song in their catalog.
Back to the future...he did the song for that AND played the teacher who was judging the bands in the gym and ironically told Mary McFly's band that they were "just too loud"!
Love Huey, his band is sooo tight…I was a hard rock guy then I listened to Huey and his band and they are soooo damn good the guitar licks are very badass and slick as hell. 80’s was the best time to be a teen that loved music…it will probably never happen again!
At the end of the concert he said, “I’m Huey Lewis and you just heard The News.” It was a great show. My wife’s favorite.
Always loved this video
We had the best music back in the 70's and 80's. Love Huey Lewis
The 80's...... classic 80's. I Love Huey❤
This def takes me back to my 80s days before i found punk and metal. Love it ☘️🇺🇲
Huey Lewis personified the early to mid-80’s!
I say Huey Lewis in concert in 1990 He gives great live concert ...
2nd row front and center ... dig in this rabbit whole ya're gonna kind some goodies ... trust me..
White t-shirt jeans Huey rocking it
Love Huey Lewis, just fun music. Went to his concert and hung out with a band at the club that played a lot of his stuff. Good memories and a lot of fun in the early 80’s . React to I wear my sunglasses 😎
I love to listen to Huey Lewis in my DeLorean
Had this cassette in Jr. High. Wore it out, these guys were great.
Why all these 80s videos just has EVERYONE dancing and having fun together. Miss those times.
This is off of their album "Sports". That might as well be a greatest hits collection.
"The Heart of Rock & Roll"
"Heart and Soul"
"Bad Is Bad"
"I Want a New Drug"
"Walking on a Thin Line"
"Finally Found a Home"
"If This Is It"
"You Crack Me Up"
"Honky Tonk Blues"
I think my favorite is "Bad Is Bad". Such an old school "doo-wop" song but still doesn't take itself too seriously.
I had such a crush! So many hits and always a great vibe. ❤ Love his voice.
Absolutely love Huey Lewis at the News! When I worked at the Fox in Denver as a DJ it was one of my fave bands to play and dance around the studio. It is so sad he can no longer sing anymore due to an illness because they are amazing!
Ah back in my youth again. Huey was class soundtrack to an era. Your reactions are just so genuine n funny. Bringing some light to some dark times! Thank you and just love seeing you react to much of my music memories!
Cc
Saw Huey in 1986! Great Band! Hit after hit! Do You Believe in Love,If this is It, Power of Love,I wanna new drug, Doin it all for my baby, Heart of Rock N Roll, Workin For a Livin,Hip to Be Square. Tons of songs!
Hip to be square, if I remember correctly, was in the movie American Psyco.
yup and Weird Al and Huey Lewis parodied the scene too
This is from their third album “Sports”
The band is from the Marin Co area (across the Golden Gate bridge) This album was huge and spawned four or five hit songs.
I am from the same area, and I used to watch these guys play in other struggling bands at parties and schools before they combine their talents in the News First time seeing Huey Lewis and the News was in the early 80’s ,they were playing at the Muirwoods volunteer fire department fundraiser 🤘
Steady on Patrick!!!😂
I saw them in 84 right after Sports dropped. Great concert.
That’s awesome, probably a great show.
One of the best bands of the eighties. Just great pop/rock/r&b mix… great singer, great band. And Sports was one of the best albums of the 80s. The video is also “very 80s” LOL… I think that’s what’s putting you in the mind of ZZ Top and Debbie Harry.
My first concert! 1986. I took my kids in 2017. Always such fun!
Love me some Huey!! A damn good harp player!!
*harmonica?
Hewy Lewis - Heart Of Rock -n-Roll
Love Huey Lewis' music so much!!!
They just launched "the Heart of Rock and Roll" on Broadway. Huey had to retire years ago due to hearing loss but he has been involved in this new project.
Huey was HUGE in the 80's.
My dad loved Hewey Lewis....
He was the heart beat of America...
Love him.... 👊🎶🎉♥️
One of my favorite songs from the 80's!
I went through two cassette tapes before CDs came out and I’m on my 2nd one of those for these guys. I graduated in 1986 and absolutely loved Huey Lewis and the News!!! He’s also in Reba McIntyre music video “Is there life out there “ he plays Reba’s husband… I really enjoy his music…🥰🥰. And watching my favorite UA-cam channel!!
Huey Lewis and the News is just plain fun! Heart of Rock and Roll, I Want a New Drug, and many more.
Dig DEEP....Huey Lewis has so many hits! You will luv um 😊
I loved Huey Lewis and the News, especially the fact that he was a baseball player at first! So talented. I love all their songs especially Happy to be Stuck with you!!
Huey was in the movie back to the future. He had 1 or 2 songs in that movie.
