"He used to do surgery for girls in the 80's, but gravity always wins" is just SUCH an evocative and yet straightforward lyric that attaches to the meter so beautifully. This and Subterranean Homesick Alien were the two songs that once I heard them, I understood 'what Radiohead is' and I knew they were destined to be one of my favorite bands, alongside the likes of Pink Floyd and later, Muse.
Being in my 70’s, I discovered this band for myself only a couple of years ago here on UA-cam. An incredible talent. Huge respect for skills and creativity. Love the melodic line of this song
This comment makes me surprisingly happy. I got early retirement, so a lot of my spare time is band + wikipedia and searching for bands that influenced bands I already like. Well done humanity - the internet is a wonderful thing (in some ways). I'd never have discovered Can, Townes Van Zandt or Fela Kuti otherwise. In my day it was poring over music magazines or (even better) fanzines.
@@wulfgold ah…you like Van Zandt. Have you heard Robert Plant’s cover of his song “Nothin’” on Plant’s and Alison Krauss’ album Raising Sand? I think Plant does a very evocative version. Haven’t heard of the other two you mentioned.
@@w.geoffreyspaulding6588 I think so, is that from the 1st album he did with her? I think Plant's voice has gotten better with age, can't stand Led Zeppelin due to the vocals and whilst I've warmed to him of late, Kraus Steals the show for me. IF I remember correctly he covers a band called Low on that who are lovely - Mormons, which is a bit whacky for me - UK, we don't really have them here, but their music's great, early work is incredibly delicate/minimalist, with some truly beautiful singing. "Secret Name" is the first album of theirs I heard, still has a very special place in my heart.
I've been a huge fan of Radiohead for over 30 years. But I can't describe how enjoyable it is to see someone as knowledgable and appreciative as Earl experience a great song like this for the first time. Keep it up! The song 'Let Down' should be on your shortlist.
Take into consideration that this is early Radiohead, which is why the song has a more basic structure. Their first 2 albuns are "Pablo Honey" and "The Bends", which are pretty good albuns, but from a time where Radiohead's sound still fell under the "Brit-Rock" genre. Then, they began becoming a lot more experimental with "Ok Computer", which was a not only a critical acclaimed album, but also served as the transition by fusing their "Brit-Rock" roots and their new experimental vein. After that came "Kid A" and "Amnesiac" where they fully embraced their new genre defying sound with lots of experimentalism, fusion, but also consistency. That's a little bit of carries more into modern Radiohead, a band that's not bound to a style or genre, but that's quickly and easily identifiable by those who are familar with their music.
I’ve really been enjoying your reactions, especially Radiohead and The Smile. The Daily Mail -live from the basement would definitely be one I would highly suggest.. or any in the basement performances really. Keep up the great reactions!!
Excellent reaction Erol. "Fake Plastic Trees" is probably my favourite Radiohead song. Check out Portishead when you can - "Glory Box", "Roads" or "Wandering Star" by them are all great to start with. Cheers.
I'd add/suggest "S.O.S.", I'm not generally a fan of covers, but that's really stunning. Third's a masterpiece*. * Yeah, I know S.O.S. isn't from Third, but it's close enough in time ;)
I am almost 60 and I wish I could say I have been listening to RH since they came out. I am late to the party myself. I actually won 2 concert tickets to see RH in Kansas City about six years ago. I had only heard Karma Police and Creep. RH got zero radio play in my part of Kansas. I was blown away by Thom's voice. Once I really figured out streaming I went off the deep end listening to them. So when you said you didn't know where you have been for the past few decades, I can totally relate. Please listen to more of them, you will not be sorry. Also, all of their solo work is great as well. Wall Of Eyes is fantastic. Thank you for the content.
Thanks for another great reaction. Just from the same album is an interesting one because it was a song I think Jonny wrote to see how many chords they could fit into a song.
I bought Pablo Honey.... it was just good enough to make me want and look forward to The Bends.... I bought The Bends on day of release and the very second Fake Plastic Trees finished I knew this wasn't just a decent band, this was a very, very special band, a generational band. Its been 30 years now and they are still incredibly creative, they never sit on their hands, always pushing forward, never repeating and never living on their past.
Pretty much can’t go wrong with Radiohead or solo Thom Yorke. Unbelievable creativity. I was lucky enough to get to tell him that every time they have a new album I can get about 3 songs in and then I have to go work on a song. Inspirational!!!
Radiohead always pays good young directors to make their videos another one that's just brutal is No Surprises simple but brilliant and in my opinion one of the best music videos ever made and a great song as well just a brutal beautiful lullaby about despair.
I came of age with this song in the 90s and this has been my favorite song my entire adult life. I got to see them perform it live and it is a treasured memory. Great song.
Another great reaction, thanks. So wonderful to see it having such a profound effect. For me it's that Amaj7 chord at the end - something about that G# gives it a real vulnerability and sadness that just kills me. Also, if you haven't done so already, check it out live. The climax is even more powerful, if anything, and the way the band cuts out halfway through Thom singing 'it wears me out' is one of my favourite moments in music. Looking forward to your next, thanks again (oh and I'll continue to request Joanna Newsom reactions in all my comments - sorry if that gets annoying but hopefully persistence will win the day!)
Seen a few of your videos now, Erol. Subscribed. Your sincerity and the fact that you let the music play is great to watch. There’s too much paralysis by analysis with some reaction channels. Thank you.
Another great Radiohead track from the same album is "Street Spirit (Fade Out)". "High and Dry" is good as well. Anyway, great reaction! I hope you keep going down the Radiohead rabbit hole.
I don’t know who you are, sir. ( No disrespect) but watching you react to this song, reminds me of the exact same time I first heard it….. I’ve been playing this song ever since, upon my guitar. ❤ I’m already a fan.
Nice vidéo, so enjoyable to see your reaction, Radiohead is THE best of all; i recomand you a rare pearl : Radiohead : The Daily Mail, live version from the basement …. Have a good day!
Another great reaction mate, loving the video...great to see some old buggers doing reaction videos 😂 good on ya mate. FYI TOOL reactions are top notch
I’m really surprised I’m gonna have to check this band out. Also reactors that actually know about music are few and far in between. Nice work. Subscribed
It's a joy to watch you discover Radiohead. The smile when you listen says it all 😁 Tracks I recommend a listen to would be 15 Step, Burn the Witch, and their rejected James Bond theme Spectre. Though really, I'd sit down with them an album at a time.
love the reactions! you should definetly react to jeff buckley, either Grace or Lover you shouldve come over. youre definetly gonna be very pleasantly surprised! as for radiohead, you should check out decks dark from their most recent album. an absurdly well produced and interesting song.
Hey Erol. I'd be super grateful if you'd listen to their song Burn The Witch. Lovely strings, tone and an interesting video! It's one of their later ones.
Deep, but simple. Well said. 2.37k subs, NICE! Well done, Erol. Didn't you say you're daughter manages the channel too? So, congrats and thanks to her as well :)
Hi Erol.....I take it you appreciate good music.....well here's a track for you......(Aladdin Sane) by David Bowie- Album Version.....its a journey into madness via piano....incredible to hear Mike Garson play.
Excellent reaction and words for description of this song. Recommend you this : Jeff Buckley, Mojo pin live Glastonbury Steven Wilson, Harmony Korine and Significant other. Regards from Chile..

The Bends is when Radiohead became Radiohead, and they just kept getting better.

"Gravity always wins." Fantastic. It's when someone asks is Radiohead is any good, I mean, they're freaking Radiohead!
One of my favourite lyrics. The epitome of futility.

Insane this song is almost 30 years old...
Keep listening to RADIOHEAD 😅 you won't be disappointed 😉 😊
this song OOZES with the late 90s vibes. idk why. it just feels like you are transported back to 1996-1999
It actually came out in 95 I believe from the bends album.
There's a live version of Thom and Jonny promoting their tour in Japan in 1995. They do a spine tingling acoustic version of Street Spirit (Fade out).
this song reminds me of my first heartbreak in college, I was listening to the album "The Bends" on repeat again and again
I’ve really been enjoying your reactions, especially Radiohead and The Smile. The Daily Mail -live from the basement would definitely be one I would highly suggest.. or any in the basement performances really. Keep up the great reactions!!
The phrase of "But I can't help but feeeeel" epitomises what Radiohead is all about. Pure emotion
Excellent reaction Erol. "Fake Plastic Trees" is probably my favourite Radiohead song.

❤ I’m already a fan.
and with this song and album radiohead perfected the form of the mainstream alternative song and record, and so moved on to attempt ok computer
the best version of Fake Plastic Trees is the live version in Glastonbury 2003
In my top 3 of favorite Radiohead songs, just so plaintive and melancholy and gorgeous.
a verY powerfuL song

Check out the interview with Jonny Greenwood that ran in the Guardian a couple days ago. It's fascinating on many levels. ✌️
I’m really surprised I’m gonna have to check this band out. Also reactors that actually know about music are few and far in between. Nice work. Subscribed
Maynard the singer from tools other band...A perfect circle-Eat the elephant
The Bends, start to finish, one of my favorite albums ever made by any band

It may sound a bit more simple due to it being on their second album. This was followed by OK Computer which rocketed them to fame.
Excellent reaction and words for description of this song.
