      What? Menslayer already has big weapons. His 1st serve, his trademark Czech backhand, his dangerous forehand, & his net game is very strong. At 18, he's already such a complete player. Even Ben said "huge game... keep going." The biggest hole right now is his 2nd serve.

      Hold up. Rublev doesn't have Shelton's serve & doesn't return the bigger 1st serves as well. It's why he panics so much under pressure. Breaking can be MUCH harder for him when he's not making 1st serves (his 2nd isn't scary) & isn't getting looks at 2nd serves. Ruby couldn't handle Menslayer's 1st serve, but Shelton could.

    Benny takes the belt to Menslayer with some massive serves & monster forehand returns. 4-6 6-3 6-4 in 2hrs. After getting broken twice in the opener, Shelton upped his aggression with each set. Stats were better for him across the board. Lots of respect & a great exchange at the net between the two. "Huge game... everything for me since USO has been... keep going." So cool to hear Ben talk after the interviews about Sakkari sitting on his kick serve at TBT & his dad telling him to up the pace to 130mph.

    One reason people hate him is because of his deep seated self belief...just look at the likes of any Black player from any country...they are timid and insecure for years on the tour...Shelton knows he possessed GREAT POTENTIAL, and he believes in himself, he knows he can become a top player, even number one! He reminds me of Sampras at times, before Sampras unleashed ,"the magic" and started kicking butt!

    These two players ae going places, they will go up further in their tennis careers. Ben Shelton looks like a black player only because of his Afro hair. Dad is black. In the US people like to identify with mom's race if mom is white. Ben may be the best player in the current crop of American new talent.

    Why is it when American players play at home they like they are best thing

    • @got2bjosh
      @got2bjosh 10 місяців тому +3

      USA has more players in the top 100 on both tours than any other nation. USA hosts more tennis tournaments than any other nation. USA has the two largest tennis stadiums in the world (USO & IW). USA holds more Grand Slams, Olympic gold medals, Davis Cup titles, and weeks at #1 than any other nation. USO is the only uninterrupted Grand Slam & delivers the largest prize money on tour save for Finals. So yeah, not too shabby.

      @@eiyp3 Your math is slightly off. Roddick was the last American male to win a Slam (USO) & reach #1. Shelton shall be next. It has been a LONG 20 year drought, but Serena, Venus, etc. have all delivered Grand Slam, Olympic gold, & World #1 glory for USA in the meantime.

      He did it at the US open because it was a natural emotion and response to doing something he had never done before and wasn't expected to do. People can't grasp the ideal that he is a very outwardly emotional person. Novak is the last thing on his mind like he is on you all's mind.

      Enough already with these cantankerous character attacks. He doesn't need random wannabe church ladies trying to police his behavior at every turn. Shelton is not immature, he's confident & extroverted. Self belief is HUGE when the margins are so thin. Ben knew how to utilize a US crowd that was constantly cheering him on.

I don't think shelton deserves the hate, because I saw what people disliked last year, and its gone now. People aren't just static events, they change- and can improve! And he's constantly improving it seems. He's mature, he's competitive, respectful, an excellent tennis player.

      @@dominiccalzetti Don’t get me wrong here! No doubt about improvement but he still isn’t there yet in terms of his attitude. He may be well on his path but it’s too early to say. And I have nothing against him. He has a spectacular game but if he wants to be one of the greats then he needs to learn humility. P.S: the American comment was more for the attitude and style of her writing. I’ve seen it enough.
