Heads up!! On some models, like my 2003 Silverado 2500HD, you cannot pull the switch box assembly right off the door panel. There is a screw holding the leading edge onto the panel so it cannot be removed until the panel is lifted off the door.
Good video, my window is in the down position and i need to get it up before i replace the the window motor, any suggestions to getting it release so I can get it up to work on. Thanks.,
My son's driver side window for his 200? Silverado just went over the hill on him. Timely video. I'll watch this video this weekend for our step-by-step instructional. I'll let you know how it went.
Sir, would you have any advice on fixing this problem? My 201 Silverado is having a problem with my passenger front window. It goes up and down from the switch on the passenger door but will only go up from the driver's side switch. It will make a clicking sound but will never go down. I have replaced the driver's side switch multiple times. It has to be a wire or something on the passenger side that stops the drivers side from rolling the passenger side window down. As mentioned, the drivers side roles the passenger side up with no issues, just won't roll it down.
The cable on my window mechanism broke by the motor. Motor is working. Window had been getting harder to rise. Is the cable replaceable by itself or do I need the complete mechanism assembly?
I found it very easy to use one of those little 1/4" drive battery impact tools for the disassembly and reassembly, and I used a small painter's plastic scraper to get under the pop-offs. Just a thought. Nice vid. Thanks
WHAT 1/2 hour, buddy I've done that job and I'm just below a diy'er and it took me over an hour and rasseling that regulator in and out , well I spent a lot of time in the confessional box after. It was frustrating for sure. Good vid Tim this will help those trying it with your vid, man I wish I seen this vid when I did mine. Cheers
+Steve Rob Well I have to say maybe an hour is closer to the truth. The one I did the day before this went smooth, this one not so much. No time in the confessional but it was close. Once you've done a few you get a sense of how it goes in and out but even in this case it just fought me all the way. The book gives .9 hr I believe. I did a Chrysler the other day and I'm glad I didn't try filming that one. Holy crap that was a pain. I about needed a unit or two of blood after.

I did this job a few months ago on my 05 Chevy truck using a Dorman product. I had to do it twice because the regulator failed. Chevy wanted over $500 for the same part! I could have used your tips! Nicely done there Tim.
+wyattoneable Oh crud. I have had the Dorman parts fail after a few years but don't think I have seen one go that quick. That stinks. Glad you got it fixed back up. You're probably a pro at doing them now and should make a video next time you have to do one. :)
Made in Taiwain part! no matter AC delco or Dorman now a days. Ya those regulators are mad easy to change out. I did one between thunderstorms years ago. On the 2003+ if you pry on the door window switch like that you will break it, they put a screw on the bottom in the front so you have to finagle the screw off when the door panel hanging, or unplug all the connectors. PITA. 3m strip caulking works awesome to goober back on the moisture shield
Yep ghetto is right I have a 2003 crew cab pried the window switch assy off like all the videos I looked at said and broke the front tab off, it was held in place with a screw
+N Smith we should make a video on the usefulness of duct tape! When I misplace it and can't find it I feel lost and confused. Just don't know how I would get along without it!
Hey Car doc how about a video replacing those failure prone dash gauge clusters in the G.M trucks. Our company has a fleet of them and half of them don't work. you gotta show me how it's done. Thanks the videos are very detailed good work!
+American made Will do. Eric O at south main auto replaces the stepper motors in those clusters. I just order new clusters and have them programmed. They are cheep and I can have them shipped overnight. Changing them out is super quick. I'll video it the next time I get one in.
I have an 06 1/2 ton silverado and i want to replace the manual windows to power windows, i asked a locar shop and they told me that in this models not every after market window regulator would work, tha if i could find the originals from a salvage truck that woudl be better, so i ask for your recommendation of what to do and if the brand in this video has proven to be reliable?, because on other brands the reviews are not verey good often they say the window regulator stop working after few months or even weeks after installation, so i think you get the idea i want to buy something that will last, thank you from méxico
Those 06 use a DDM on a CAN so you need a lot more than a motor assembly to get it working unless you want to go old school and wire up a switch. I use GM parts on these. Good luck.
Cool , I just put the same part in one a few days ago . It was easy , as the truck came here with no door panel . Actually it did not have much interior left in it at all.
To make your life easier, I would remove the door handle and the rod going from it. Then would remove the plastic barrier so it wouldn't be in my way. Still a good video.
Which window? Common problem in 99 is broken ground wire in the hinge area. Right side is worse for that. Pull back the rubber boot and look at each wire for breaks.
does anyone no a good quality 2003 silverado power window regulator? these parts from ebay jus ain cuttng it. this one i jus replaced it lasted 3yrs but it was super quiet n worked real good. this new one i put on jus now is stupid its quiet goin down noisy goin up wtf i doubt its gona last but its guaranteed for 10yrs rofl. so much bs. the original one lasted 9-10yrs. i wish i new wat brand it was
I owe you a six-pack of your favorite adult beverage. Job done in 30 minutes. Great step by step video. Easy off - Easy fix - Easy assembly. Many thanks.
I put my duct tape over the door at the top and had it on both sides of the glass......I never realized that a piece on the outside. Also, I just replaced the motor, not the tracks and cables...the motor was like $35 (2003 Tahoe).
+larryz24 a lot of times it is just the motor but for the cost and since the regulators tend to fail up here from frozen Windows being operated I usually just do it as an assembly. It's better to be safe with plenty of duct tape then to have it drop and shatter. Thanks for visiting the Car Doctor institute of higher education and use of duct tape school.
This does NOT describe how to remove the door panel from a 2003 Suburban LT Autoride. If you try to pull the window & side mirror control panel thingy, you'll break something. That screw is under the manual door lock slider thing. Thanks, GM. I can't wait to get my Cybertruck!
Good video. Would be helpful if you actually turned the camera towards the install, and not into the light with a side view. But it get's the job done.
I enjoy helping folks but at the same time I like to support my family. I get to do both with my job and that makes it rewarding. Thanks for watching my vids!
Thanks! Nice video. Now, I'm ready to install the part that came yesterday.
Awesome Video it helped me out so much right from scratch.
@The Car Doctor Can you just replace the moter?

Exactly. I didn’t know this. Now mine is damaged from seeing another video where they pried it out.
Excellent presentation and explanation, two thumbs up. Thank you for taking time and making this video.

Those battery impacts are sweet. Nice tip. Take care
my window is down how do i access those bolts

+Ghetto Wagon Yes those newer models with the drivers door module type switch can be a little more difficult to remove.
Yep ghetto is right I have a 2003 crew cab pried the window switch assy off like all the videos I looked at said and broke the front tab off, it was held in place with a screw
Nice work Tim in getting that regulator in and out...
+stuzman52 I didn't even break anything! It's an easy job. Good seeing you.
Is the regualtor actually the motor aswell??
no if u look it up like on ebay youll see the regulatior is in a silver color n the motor is black
Timely video Tim I got to do one but it's a freebee on my son in laws truck :) Good tip on the duct tape ! Goes to show duct works on anything :)
+N Smith we should make a video on the usefulness of duct tape! When I misplace it and can't find it I feel lost and confused. Just don't know how I would get along without it!
Are you sure this is your second one in as many days?
Nice video I’m probably gonna do this on my truck when the parts arrive
My avalanche switch still works, rolls all the way down, but only 1/2 ways up. Do I to replace 2 parts?
wich parts u talkin bout? switch n regulator or regulator n motor?
Awesome job! Watched once and done!

I bought the same part but it won't have enough power to lift my window up...mine it's a 2001 Silverado LS.
Nicely done Tim.
+wysetech2000 Thank you!

every one of these videos the plastic barrier seems to always be in the way! thanks for the added tip!
thanks for the info.. great video great job easy to understand step by step.. I really appreciate it.. thanks again 💯👊
Thank you!
Thank you for what you do!
Can you just do the cable
I replaced mine in a 1999 and it still won't work? any ideas

nice fix
Great information but more video if his backside then what he was doing in the door panel.
Great video until the end were you stop showing close ups of your work.

Why the h didn't you remove that plastic I would not be fighting with that the whole time
*Dorman is the WORST. I'll pay more money for GM or ACDELCO before I EVER use another Dorman product*
Too damn ya talk too much about bs get to the point shouldn’t be an explanation for every word you say🙄
You’re not making much sense.
That is one of the worst videos I have ever seen somebody tried to show somebody how to work stuff work on stuff
Kewl
