Watching these in 4K look so damn good. I’ve told him these before and he mentioned that it’s the encoding and bit rate. Why it looks so good even compared to other 4K videos.
Karting...never had more fun with my pants on than I did when I was racing karts. I ran an RMax kart for about 10 years in the early/mid Aughts. At the time, a rig was about 5k. That would have been a purpose built chassis from Tony, CRG, Arrow, etc. and a sealed RMax engine (30hp, 125cc water cooled two stroke). I bet I spent another 5-8k on things like tools, spare parts, driving suits, helmets, driving shoes, gloves, DAQ's, kart stand, etc. just to get going. From memory my consumables were around 3k per year including tires, chains, clutches, blah, blah, blah. Regardless, karting is probably the cheapest form of W2W racing. Took me about 2-3 years to learn setup, get into a testing regime, and generally learn to drive the thing properly. The cornering performance of a kart is astounding. We regularly saw 3g's on long sweepers. To get that kinda grip in a car you have to have an aero equipped formula car or something equivalent.
The acceleration of some karts is nothing to sneeze at, as well. My Rotax had 30 hp on a 200 pound kart. There are few vehicles with that power to weight ratio. Get a 6 speed shifter kart with 50 hp, and almost no vehicle can perform as well (under 100 mph). The track record at Sonoma (Sears Point) was held for many years by a kart.
@@simonbarbarasch7169 The super low cg and the grip of that giant outside rear tire account for g's a kart will produce. I ran mostly spec tires - no crazy compounds.
@@chipsutcliffe7110 Shifters are another level from the TAG kart classes. I wanted a spec series where I didn't have to spend cubic dollars on a competitive motor.
Karting is by far the best bang for the buck racing that you can do. It's pure racing, and it will teach you things about racing that can be applied pretty much across the board. Nothing beats open wheel racing.
The most awesome feeling after karting is when you get back to your normal car, no matter how harsh the ride is, it will feel like riding on pillow in comparison.
Great video Mr. Goose, I always stress to all of my friends that are into cars that karting is hands down the cheapest way to get a taste of racing as well as a great way to improve yourself as a driver. Joining the indoor karting league near me was one of the best decisions I've made. Plus like 2 months of karting for me is cheaper than a single track day.
Brilliant. In the 60s my grandmother took me karting..she drove a yellow olds 440 so was in her character..I never looked back. Racing is the thing. Thanks
so glad to see such a quality video on this. karting gets overlooked often and its such a fun and powerful tool for learning and honing your racecraft. its such a shame its hard to find a decent track/league though, unless you live in a metro area.
One thing that turns me off to rental karts is the fact that if you weigh 185+ ps and get into a race where drivers weigh 120-140pds and have less or equal driving skill you will never be able to keep up.. An example is my son.. He weighs about 130pds 5ft8 and I'm 6ft1 190pds.. I have a ton of racing experience, yet when we get to the track he is always 2 to 3 tenths faster... Especially coming out of slow corners and on the straights he can gain at least 4-5 car lengths.. Like you said it's about having fun and it is, but when you join a championship and simply can't keep up with small drivers it kind of sucks!!🤪 Thanks for the great video!! Do some of you also run into this problem?
I've known about karting for a long time, but I always thought it was largely unreachable without a large upfront investment in your own kart. Thanks for bringing this info to the masses who didn't know better already.
17:16 I competed in an indoor league where we had that 120 lb guy that won every week. It sucked big time. What did feel good was the time I started tail back in a 20 car field and finished 2nd to him. It might as well have been a win. It felt that good.

Another great karting spot is GoPro Motorplex in Mooresville NC. They have those same karts for rental and league racing. Their outdoor track can also be run in different configurations which makes league racing more exciting. I prefer racing at GoPro over K1 any day.
I did some rental karting when I lived up near Mosport in Ontario and I loved it, you basically nailed everything about it. sadly I dont live near there anymore.

The problem with Karting and I have this happen locally is YOUR personal weight matters sooooo much. The time record holder at our local kart track is a 12 year old who weighs 96lbs. A 200lb male has a massive disadvantage compared to someone 150lbs or less. There’s no way around power to weight in karting, and it kills the desire to open wheel as a normal 6ft plus male adult.

20:50 looks like you got a bit of "straight line handling" advantage there :D . I'm surprised you still don't have your own kart. Maybe get a chassis with Rotax Max. these motors don't cost much to maintain and you still have a clutch in case of a spin. You'll notice a HUGE difference in the level of concentration and physical fitness required, especially when you go for softer tyres. Overall it seemed overpriced and felt like it was far from welcoming newcomers.
@@chozen_juan I get that but I think the idea is that you don't focus on those guys and just have fun with it. In every kind of racing sport there will be competitive people who take it way too seriously, and you have to be willing to deal with that.
@@gearheadtechnology I get there is competition and im good with that but its hard to be the one guy having fun when nobody else is.
It's a little hard to find but I was able to find pricing there for the different levels of memberships
Love your vids. I don't always agree, but I understand your thought process. And the vid editing and quality are first rate.
All of this and I can't remember ever commenting on one. This one is different. I am within a couple of hours of this facility and I am so there soon.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
Looks like I’ll have to make a trip down from the god land of Wisconsin and enter the land of the FIB.
This looks like a good time and surprisingly not entirely too affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hopefully I can find a time to show up the same time you & Jack do.
Great episode!
Being that Joliet IL is only a 3 hour drive for me, I'm more than down to come on down and hang, and potentially race some karts!
Autobahn! I absolutely love the road course as it was my first road course when I tested F4 back in 2018. Before then, I raced karts professionally and still do to this day. I would love to come back to autobahn and set some laps on the karting track :)
Karting is awesome! In Charlotte we have a lot of options from indoor to the GoPro Park which is outside.
Tried once in 🇹🇼 i would definitely ride again! It's so much fun with kart 🏁!
Good watch! Man this makes me want to hit up the local cart track. Just an indoor short track but fun. Have not been in ages and I was no good, but had a blast.
Great segment Mark! Circuit of the Americas has a nice Karting track as well. I wish we had something close here in Western Ohio... The only thing that was missing from this video was fake engine noise, I wanted to hear some of that... Oh well, guess I'll finish eating my Fiery Steak Fajita Flatbread from Arby's.
excellent concept the way you put this together thanks for all the info and letting us know more about how to get involved!
Nice video as always, I really like the equal playing field to allow driver skill to shine
looks like a lot of fun.
Thanks, great vid. Oh and geese can be pretty savage so er no trouble.
One of the best episodes thus far!!!
Makes me wish I lived in the states. Awesome facility! Hats off for getting something like this together. Great filming too of course. ;)
Europe has 10x the karting infrastructure of the states... we need more of these clubs.
savagegeese , thank you! I was looking for that kind of carting :) Do we have more outdoor karting places?
20:50 looks like you got a bit of "straight line handling" advantage there :D .
I'm surprised you still don't have your own kart. Maybe get a chassis with Rotax Max. these motors don't cost much to maintain and you still have a clutch in case of a spin. You'll notice a HUGE difference in the level of concentration and physical fitness required, especially when you go for softer tyres. Back in my youth I did national competition with 100cc, no gears , no clutch , no front brakes. Still the most pure and lightweight karting to me. The kart weighted only 65Kg back then (late 80's)
