  • F1 DRIVE is a brand-new indoor go-karting track in London. It is right under the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
    This was the Elite session which is a Grand Prix race format on the Super Circuit. It started with a 15-minute practice/qualifying round followed by the 15-minute race from the video. The karts have some cool additions to mimic an F1 car such as ERS and DRS. I tried to drop back a bit in the race to give the DRS a go but it didn't end too well...

    That just looks so frustrating to be in your POV, rental karting is filled with newbies trying to be Max Verstappen, and angry people that think you hit them when they have no idea what happened, like when that guy just drove you into a wall.

      It's just something you have to expect and accept with indoor rental karting public sessions. I normally just do outdoor now though which generally has a high skilled pool of drivers compared to indoor.

    Its a really enjoyable track. I think I was 2/10's off Nico's time from when I went last week. Once you have a clear track without having to be forced to slow down under yelllow with the slow restart process then Its good!

    • @Rahullll
      @Rahullll  5 місяців тому +9

      Wow, that's super quick! And yeh, when there is a clear track it's enjoyable but as with most indoor karting public sessions, they're filled with yellow flags.

  • @HexlGaming
    @HexlGaming 5 місяців тому +18

    In the beginning of this video the concept seemed kinda nice with all the graphics and the lights etc. but that all fell apart for me with all these yellow flags and those drivers. The best thing about karting is that it's just you and the machine and nothing between that, but with this it seems like you're always being hindered no matter what you do. It went from "oh I have to try that" to "nah" real quick for me once it got going.

    • @Rahullll
      @Rahullll  5 місяців тому +2

      I think it would be a lot better if you go with a group of mates who are all decent at karting. A public session like this is just leaving you open for the chaos that they are known for.

    This is why I always prefer outdoor tracks. In fact, Electroheads, led by Rob Smedley has already enhanced outdoor e-karting racing by trialling at Whilton Mill back in 2020.
    Of course, F1 Drive will be expensive due to upkeep and franchise name, but I think its time tracks like Buckmore, Whilton Mill and other tracks that rake in the income start to consider a more sustainable approach, especially in the next 10 years.

    I went recently to see if it was any good, would not go back!
    Huge delay to our race due to a lady crashing and crying her eyes out. Wasn't assigned a kart and the trackside staff made me go to race control to fix it for them. Then my kart was super slow during quali (15 secs off the pace), I stopped to let a marshal know and it wouldn't start again. Then halfway through the race my new kart was slowing down at a few points on the track leading to me tumbling down the order and getting bumped in the butt constantly as the other drivers weren't expecting anyone to slow in those spots!
    Was a mess of a day overall and the staff seemed more interested in flirting with each other than dealing with customers. All that for the most expensive kart session I've tried. I got maybe 10 mins of clean running at full power. Still, the start of the race was fun as I don't usually do standing starts (until someone spun on turn 3 of course and the yellows came out).
    The thing I noticed with the yellows is that some karts took longer to register yellows than others. But those same karts would then take longer to register it going green again, meaning it was total luck if this staggered slowdown helped or hindered them, depending where they were on track.

      For the camera, I use the go pro hero 12. Recorded at 4k60. I had to bump up the ISO though as it was quite dark inside so it added some grain to the video. When karting outdoors where there is a lot more light, I like to use 4k30 with a shutter speed of around 1/96 to give some motion blur and add to the sense of speed. It's the shutter speed for a sense of speed. I normally go for around 1/96 with 24fps to get some nice motion blur and sense of speed. As it was quite dark on here, I upped the ISO and set the shutter speed to auto. This makes each frame sharper and so the sense of speed is reduced. The karts themselves aren't that fast as well but no less than other indoor tracks. They're electric biz karts, commonly found at other indoor tracks. The elite session runs them at speed 4 with other sessions at 3 or below.

    These dirty drivers, how they going full speed during a yellow flag.

    • @Rahullll
      @Rahullll  5 місяців тому

      I don't think it's really their fault. The track had an auto slowdown system for yellow flags so when there is one, you can keep your pedal fully pressed and your kart will slow to a yellow flag pace. It was just that for some kart, this system seems to be delayed so they would be able to carry a lot more speed during a yellow flag.
